  1. I have a few vids of SAU forum members lifting. As most are too shy to talk about themselves, I'll post what I have here You guys that have vids of yourselves lifting/competing should also post them up
  2. Well, Jack is 21, he walked into PTC on June 10 2010, it was the first time he'd been to a gym. So he squatted 300kg in a little over 2 years. Max and Martin both started lifting at 15, so 5 years all up. Max only started powerlifting in April 2010, before that it was lifting for Soccer and Basketball, Martin simply trained at home until 10 months ago Emad did his first comp in December 2011, he had been lifting weights for football I think there is a video on my YouTube channel of Max at 16 powercleaning 100kg@67kg or something like that, I'll try and find it
  3. Birds, you may get a shock and your misconception of powerlifters will diminish My son Max only deadlifts, rows, shrugs and chins, youll die when you see his back, same goes for Emad, Martin, Jesse, Wayne etc Most think powerlifters are fat. Maybe the 125kg and up guys are fatter, but the guys under that are quite lean
  4. James, if youre after low carb protein bars that taste really good, the best I have tasted/sold are the Next Gen ones, around 2gm carbs with 18gm protein 55gm bar The new protein balls are the balls, cherry flavour is superb, I cant keep enough of this product in stock The mint flavoured balls have 1gm carb per 60gms
  5. Its just time under the bar Two years ago Max competed at Worlds and went 172.5/107.5/210 - 490kg This year at only 8kg heavier he went 250/155/245 - 650kg Consistent heavy training is the key
  6. For those that dont know, on bench press the bar must pause on the chest till the judge gives a press command
  7. Well there are weight classes 60kg, 67.5kg, 75kg, 82.5kg, 90kg, 100kg, 110kg, 125kg, 140kg, 140kg+. You must way UNDER the weight Our best lifters 75kg class - Emad Nayef 220kg squat, 125 bench(injured, has done 150kg) and 260kg deadlift, in competition, best total 602.5kg (35yo) 82.5kg class - Martin Nguyen 227.5kg squat, 132.5kg bench press , deadlift 272.5kg, best total 632.5kg (teen, 19) 90kg class - Max Markopoulos 250kg squat, 155kg bench, 245kg deadlift, best total 650kg (20yo) 140kg+ - Jack Pollard 280kg squat, 185kg bench, 280kg deadlift, best total 745kg 21yo) All 4 lifters have lifted more in the gym, but these are comp results only
  8. Birds, the GPC National Push/Pull is on November 18, all around Australia on the same day You can do both or simply one, so you can bench only, a lot do as its not a combined total, each event is separate You can also set National records at this event. Being sanctioned, you must join GPC and wear a soft suit The Vic leg is being held at my gym, PTC Frankston, 2 Skye Rd Nick, leave a little earlier so you can warm up properly this time
  9. I reckon it will be a dead heat lol
  10. A good opener is a weight you can do for 2 reps
  11. We've got the Novice Comp on Sunday, lifting starts at 12, come have a look, Nick from SAU will be repping you guys
  12. We stopped counting once we got to 200 lifters pulling 200kg at PTC, and thats only clients, I have no idea what the number is now
  13. I should also point out that back then, no one squatted 200kg, benched 150kg or deadlifted 250kg We now have 13 that squat 200kg, 12 that bench 150kg and 13 that deadlift 250kg, including 6 lifters who can do all 3, with 3 of them aged 21, 20 and 19 Future looks bright
  14. Times change Simon, when you competed at my comps I didnt allow belts, knee wraps or wrist wraps, all squats walked out Now at PTC we have a monolift, specialist DL bars, specialist squat bars, lots of my competing lifters wear belts, they all wear knee wraps and most wear wrist wraps when benching Still proud to say my strongest, Jack, who squats 300kg, benches 185kg and deadlifts 300kg, has never worn a belt, but he is only 21 Drop in when youre in Vic next
  15. IPF still use squat stands Simon Its more the equipped guys that Mono's help, one guy opened with 555kg at Worlds, walking that out would be tough
  16. We have a monolift now Simon, but we simply use it as a squat rack most of the time, walking the squat out, before a comp like Nats or Worlds, where we have to use it, we start practicing with someone operating the gate. If your going to compete at National and Worlds level, you better used to one
  17. It is Saturday, going out tonight, gunshow FTW
  18. Look I love those that chase their dreams, but if youre not training hard with BB's and DB'd for years before doing this course, and doing it on a whim, stay out. The industry needs experienced lifters, not course experts
  19. Well, the guy that was the strength and conditioning coach at Storm is a friend of mine I was very curious what they were squatting and deadlifting He told me they only were to do half squats and they didnt deadlift They did do lots of benching with some impressive numbers Another friend works with Collingwood, not Martyn Girvan, Luke Vella. He said no player could deadlift more than him. He weighs less than 67.5kg. Martyn confirmed this At the Dolphins, theyre goal was to outlift my 63yo powerlifter. They had to squat more than him or deadlift, either was fine None managed it. Fit young men in their prime against a 63yo who started lifting at 59yo, in 12 months none could do it Clearly there are some that have better programs than others, Essendon for instance, but look at the drama that caused this year If you truly love heavy weights and want to train athletes, train powerlifters, no money, great job satisfaction
  20. I would guarantee there is more to it than she is letting on, my point was more to the kind of person that thinks its a great career change. The best thing that couldve happened was that she is now pursuing another career and she is out of the gym game There is a member on here who worked as a PT at Fitness First that had his "rent" deducted for the last 3 months of his lease, he's a close friend I have another friend who works out of a Leisure Centre and he loves it, is doing okay, he's about to go it alone from home, he highly recommends this way as opposed to the Big Gyms
