Any benefits going Split Dump Pipe v's Single Dump
Scooby replied to Robo's's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
bass afaik the idea of an ebc is to not have the wg open at all until you hit max boost. robo's re the long wg pipe, when your wastegate is venting fully (at max boost) it figures that you're also at max power and therefore pushing max gas out of the turbo and into the exh pipe. that's when you want best flow ie least backpressure. joining the paths of the wg and exh gas creates back pressure as it impedes the exhaust flow. moving the junction further down the exh pipe reduces this effect, in theory the best set up is the screamer where the wg pipe does not join the exh at all. -
I think the whole thing is surrounded by weirdness. Mystery gold coast businessmen, cons wanting to testify, baggage handlers in camel suits etc and then most of us really don't know ALL the evidence. Had the parasites er media reported all of the evidence ie bad as well as good some of us might think differently. Anybody wanna make a movie?

PSI_GTSII Not trying to state the bleeding obvious but the CES ones in the photo are the 'short' ie HKS style whereas the competition style referred to by Sneaker has the better design ie longer wastegate pipe as per the Trust ones. Trevor at CES can quote rwkw improvement for the short ones but not for the long ones so it's not possible to know if the extra cost for the long ones is worth it. That makes it even more more of a hard decision if you've already got engine pipes like me. CES stuff is great - I have a full system on my RS Liberty - but pricey compared to the Trust kit. I think they Trust ones are the go, all things considered, as you get the long wastegate pipe without the cost of the CES ones. There are subtle differences such as the expansion chamber radius on the CES ones that make them very nice but I think this is a moot point on a road car when the system in nearly double the cost after HPC coating. Regards

as Sydneykid wrote 'anything' you do to your engine is illegal. if that bothers you then don't do 'anything'. a bit extreme maybe but probably sums things up despite there being ways around the problem.

cut it and get a new one it's prob $30, not worth messing with

Hi Matski, What Leech said re the cat, boost control and airbox. Bluprint is right re the ride height, 100mm is the legal minimum from the lowest point. The boost control is easily hidden but make sure the lines - I'm assuming it's pneumatic - are as short as possible. This type of thing is always going to be a potential problem when you cross jurisdictions but most laws seem quite uniform re the usual issues such as pods and ride height. I had open pods on the GTR and it got through a bue slip inspection, go figure. The airbox probably would have to be engineered 'by the letter of the law' but most plods will only be looking to see if the pods are enclosed - you can buy prefab enclosures or make one yourself for $20. Anyway the cops are doing you a favour insisting that the pods be enclosed - you should get defected for not optimising your engines output by shielding the pod from all that nasty hot air LOL. 'Excuse me Sir, it has come to our attention that you are not optimising your engines output, we require you to return in 7 days with a proper cold air intake'. Regards

Guys; I'm after the following in A1 condition for an R32 GTR; door and matching rear 1/4 trims (ie the 4 with the suede inserts) not worried about condition of speaker covers etc just trim headlining rear seat got to be grey/grey type, not grey/light blue if you have any or all of these please PM me. I'm in Canberra but will travel. Regards
-
Guys can you please let me know if you have any experience with these guys. Please use PM if it's not something good. They're on my list to have some minor paint / panel work done to the GTR but I thought I'd ask first. Thanks Scooby

you need to cut the rear shelf to fit 6x9 speakers or use spacers, in which case there's like 5mm clearance between the grill and the rear window. don't think they fit in the front unless you go really custom due to lack of window clearance when it's down.

All these differences contribute. That's why a Ducati sounds different to a VTR Honda, which is different to an RSV Aprilia. They are all twins and - different cans aside - the Ducati still has a distinct exhaust note primarily due to the valve train design. Hence the Desmosedici head engines sound different again to their predecessors.

Thought about buying a Mines crate engine from Japan? Or Nismo N1? Old engine out, new engine in.
-
thanks Stocky, that's a good indication

Sorry should've said it's an RB26. But like GTR 32, I thought valve bounce and valve float are functions of insufficient seating pressure to cope with high revs. I guess the effect I'm talking about is a kind of float but not in the same way.

G'day guys; some time ago there was discussion regarding the use of stronger valve springs when upping boost. the idea being that with standard spring tension at high boost the incoming air can slow the inlet valve returning to seat (for a millisecond of course) with catastrophic results. presumably this applies even more so when cams are used. does anyone know at what boost levels stronger springs should be used? regards

I'm sure the whole RTA / Main roads / Rego whoever crew nationwide are controlled by a central office staffed by two dodgy assholes called Vargen Goksarka and Takit Updarea, and their assistant dodgy assholes Arvent Godarcloo and Farg Diviyno. Pricks every one of them. Seems their latest recruit, a chick called Iwanna Donger, narrowly beat Iyusa Strapon in the selection process. Apparently Iyusa Strapon didn't fit too well with the rest of the team as she was a bit plastic. I heard they are thinking of putting on some chick called Sky Linebanner too. God help us all.

All I've ever wanted to know is if the long style dumps are worth the extra cost over the short style. Corky Bell's book suggests wastegate pipes about 400mm length, even the CES ones are shorter than that.

R33 GTR - Clutch/Flywheel kit recommendations?
Scooby replied to Blitz's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Hi Duncan; how would you rate that clutch for street use? god or dog? Mark -
thanks 88, picture tells a thousand words. 226 ATW on 8 psi is excellent. stock bottom end?
-
Thanks SK, Is that 475hp x .75 = 350kw at the fly? Allowing for losses atw that would equate to the 280 rwkw you mentioned. Your comment that 'anything over 475 hp costs the same' makes sense. But assuming the $ for a bullet proof engine aren't available and if a stock RB26 can make 280rwkw safely, why go to an RB26/30 except for a bit more torque (and a fair bit more messing about to install it). Is it the cost? What am I missing? What rpm limit do you observe for the stocker bottom end? Regards
-
Exactly what I thought possible and what I want to do albeit with RB26 bits (even experimented with a quote from GEM for $1600 assembled, extra for balancing and anything else I want ). SK I assume you buttoned it up yourself at that price? Would forged pistons allow you to stretch to a safe 350 rwkw or so? What rpm limit do you observe? Did you ceramic coat the pistons to overcome the absence of oil squirters? Regards
-
I think CES are quoting increases atw, they don't have an engine dyno as far as I know.

Hi guys; I'm thinking of using C & V to tune a PFC on my R32 GTR. If you have something good to say please post it, anything else probably needs a PM. Regards

Hi Gary; is there any difference between R34 and R32 GTR manifolds? Regards
