Maybe not a good idea for cars, it will be OK but there are better choices. Bike oils have additives to suit wet clucthes and the gearbox. Also you will find they are usually a low API rating SF or SG Ash

Noob Question - Why Do You Logbook Your Racecar?

Maybe be different over on the east coast, but in WA it has to meet the technical requirements of the category you are applying for. So you can log book your GTR as a V8 Supercar or HQ or Saloon car? So CAMS would log book Darren Hossacks SAAB sports sedan as an Improved Production car? I dont think so. I have logged booked several cars. In WA the CAMS Scruitineed will check itfor general regulations and then a CAMS category inspector will check it and it will have to be within the rules of the category you are applying for. It must be in a race ready state of build. Here is the application form form I sruitineer will comeout and check it, he will have a big checklist. Ash -
Guy's. I have worked in the oil industry for many years, specialising in Automotive, Earthmoving, Transport, Mining and industrial. Also I have been lucky enough to be racing cars since the 1990's Currently I am racing in improved Production in a S14a 200sx My website, its obviously a built engine and we are using Power Plus E85. When considering which oil to use, always check the manufactures recommendations. However when racing you may want to consider different viscosities (thickness). I use a United Oil product, which is the company i am currently working for. Please dont get caught up in marketing hype, all the reputable brands are good! The most important thing when using E85 is to change your oil regularly, E85 destroys it. Also, to meet the new API rating "SN" the oil must be suitable for use with E85 fuel. So, when shopping for your oil, you really should be looking for an API "SN" oil. API "S" specs . Now this is where you will find it hard. To meet API "SN" the oil must also meet stringint fuel consumption tests, which means in most cases the oil will be thin. Also, like someone said earlier the base oil is likely to be a "Hydrocrack" which is not a "proper" synthetic. Hydrocrack Synthetics are still are very good product, infact most people on here will be using hydrocrack synthetics and not even know it. Hydrocraks can struggle a bit in ultra high temp racing applications as they can tend fume of their lighter solvents and leave only the thicker oil in the sump. You sometimes can see this as the catch can will have fuems coming out and may also leave some oil in the catch can. So, ideally if you are using E85 in a racecar you will want full synthetic (PAO/Ester) that meets API "SN", but I dont think its available yet. The next best thing is an API "SM" that is a PAO/Ester synthetic and a viscosity that suits your requirments and CHANGE IT VERY OFTEN! If you are using E85 in a road car that does the occasional track sprint or drag race choose an API "SN" hydrocrack, I think the thickest you will find is a 5w40 or 5w50. United GX Racing API SN FYI I use United Ulimax 10w60 SM (PAO/Ester) in my E85 200sx but also sell United 1 5w50 SM (PAO/Ester)to fellow racers using E85 in their racecars including some hardcore RB engines on E85, we change it after every race meeting. http://www.united-oil.com/UploadedImg/1313653961_UNITED%20ULTIMAX%20RACING.pdfUnited 1 United Ultimax 10w60 People say the oil thins out when using E85 but from my experience I think thats incorrect. Its more like using Methanol, the oil congeals like having water in your oil! When using AV Gas in our FD RX7 race car (500hp 13b Turbo) we use to get a full season out of our engine oil, so thats 8 race meetings and 4 practice days, thats 380 laps or 850kms. Noob Question - Why Do You Logbook Your Racecar?

Log Booking is more for actual racing not time attack. Its a CAMS thing, they have different racing categories, for Example: Sports Sedans, Improved Production Car, Formula Ford, Formula V, V8 Supercar, Saloon Car, HQ and so on. Each Category has a number reference, Improved Production is CAMs "3J", Sports Sedans is CAMS "3D" If you have your car log booked it means it meets the criteria and regualtions for the category it log booked. You have to have the car built to meet the category and ready to race before it can be log booked. If for example you decide to log book your GTR as an Improved Production Car 3J. Once your car is ready to race a CAMS inspector will inspect it for saftey, then another category inspector will inspect it for eligibilty. The eligibilty test it to make your you haven't cheated and it meets technical requirments for the category you have applied for. Log booking will dramatically increase the value of your car. GTR car be a Sports Sedan, Street Car or Improved Production Car and im sure a few others. Here is the list CAMS Categories You can click on each one and read the regulations I hope that helps Ash -
Yes I do realise that, and I agree with you, as I have said the R33 is a good track car on a budget. I really think you need to work out where you want to end up racing. If you just want to hack around at speed events and have some fun the R33 will be fine. I just prefer lighter race cars, weight is a killer for a race car. A cast iron 6 cylinder engine hanging over the front axle wont help matters. A S chassis has a alloy 4 cyclinder engine behind (or leval) with the front axle. Sure a SR wont produce as much power as a RB25 or 26, but it dosent need to as its lighter, less weight to accelerate, brake and turn. Around Wanneroo raceway the rule of thumb is every 10kgs of weight will add 1/10th of a second to your lap time. You also have to consider the extra running costs a heavier car has. extra tyre wear, brake wear, fuel consuption and so on, this all adds to the cost of a "Budget Track Car" Ash

I have been lucky enough to have had a rew different race cars. Datto 1600's, Mitsi Scorpion with EVO engine to name a few. The RX7 is not my car, I just get to drive it. The S14a is my car! For 2012 we are running the RX7 in Sports sedans. So on with the 265 slicks and up with the HP, also changes to the shocks/springs to suit the slicks. MAybe a different gearbox We dont focus too much on peak HP, more a broad torque curve. I am expecting high 400's maybe 500 at the wheels for 2012. Anymore than that the rotarys start to get a bit unreliable. The RX7 FD would have to be the best base for a cheap price. Its not until you get underneath them to you realise they really are a well engineeried sports car. Double Wishbone alloy suspension (like open wheeler), Perfect weight split. They also have a torque tube that joins the gearbox to the diff. This prevents the diff pinion from moving up and down and uses all its power to turn the wheels, not pusheing the diff in its housing. The down side is it sounds like shit! Best thing is they are extreemly light, I recon with some more effort and $$ we could get ours down to 1020kgs Ash

Just get a loan :-0 Will you get bigger tyres on a R33 over a S14/15, they take pretty big tyre. Do you seriously recon a R33 could get to with in 30kgs of a S chassis? My Caged S14 is 1130kgs and thats with R33 box and GTR diff and shafts. Exactly, if you are seriously going to play with a RB, its normally in a GTR. Yes i raced against it. The LF R32 car wasn't exactlly a Basic car, Fancy RB26, PPG Dog box and developed by LF and Kerry Wade, who is one of WA's best. They put some serious dollars in it. Kerry will even tell you cant get the multilink rear to work very well, he told be I would never my S14 rear end to work. This video may be better to watch

Yeah both have trouble getting the power down. The Nissan is harded to get out of corners, for 2 reasons. 1. the multilink rear end is hard to get working, especially as its and Improved production car, so we have to use original suspension arms. 2. The restrictor means we cant rev the engine very high, the air just can get to the engine. So to make it go we have lots of torque early in the rev range. This makes it hard to hook up because it comes on extreemly hard. Rev range 3500 - 5800 rpm 200sx, 36mm turbo restrictor, 11:1 comp & 25psi to make 348rwhp @ 4500 - 6000rpm (with 36mm restrictor, 50mm away from intake wheel) obviously the restrictor really hurts the HP! RX7 FD, Unrestricted 13b Bridgeport & 20psi TO4Z to make 450rwhp @ 7800rpm spinning on dyno (can have more, but with only 225/50/16 R Comps it just spins the tyres more) The FD is oversteery because its undertyred Ash

Roy, I think the best thing to do is choose a category to race or sprint and then choose the car. I agree a R33 is a budget racer but will never be great, the whole car would have to re-engineered to make it any good. Nissan knows this, hence the GTR I'm told the "S" gearboxes are week, I changed my S14 Racecar to a RB25 box before I took it to the track. Dont know much about the brakes, Im told the Skyline brakes go on? I wouldn't say the Rear end is good on any R32,33,34 or S13, S14, S15, they are a nightmare! Multilink arm binding, massive camber and toe changes through it movement. Fact is they will never get out of a corner like a FD RX7 or EVO. I didn't say the R33 was bad, just stating the facts 1250kg is a heavy racecar and with only 320rwhp wont be overly exciting, not even sure you could get a caged R33 down to that weight? Who here has a caged R33 that is 1250kg? I would choose: S14 or S15 (better rear suspension than S13, stiffer chassis than S13, also the petrol tank is infront of the rear axle) FD RX7 (50:50 weight split, front and rear double wishbone suspension, easy HP, bood brakes cheap to rebuild the engine) EVO 3 (light for a 4wd, good engine, good 4wd system, great chassis, but still 4wd so can be harder to work on yourself) S15 or S15 caged will be 1100ish kgs (1140kg with R33 gearbox and GTR diff/shafts) FD RX7 caged will be about 1060kgs EVO3 caged should be around 1250kgs, maybe less! Well done, im sure you will enjoy yourself. Some pointers for you: 1. Make it as light as possible 2. Get it to handle, focus on into and out of corners 3. Get the best possible brakes you can afford 4. Spend the bulk of you money you on suuspension and brakes Unfortunatly the GTST's will always have trouble going fast, they are heavy and rear drive only, a front diff (GTR) fixes this! Remember, reducing weight should be your priority. Ash

Any Mobil Product called Delvac is primarily a Diesel engine oil, but it does have a petrol rating. When looking at the API specs if the first letter is a "C" (Compression Ignition) its primarily diesel engine oil, if its a "S" (Spark ignition) its primarily a Petrol engine oil Example Mobil Delvac MX is a CI-4/SL Mobil 1 is a SM/CF The letter after the C or S represents its peformance leval for petrol or diesel Its not a problem to use a diesel oil in a petrol engine, so long as the "S" rating is the one you are looking for. API "SN" is current. Hi Guys I have a leaking hose that is connected to the power steering pump. Its going to be hard to describe to the Nissan dealer so I wanted the part number before I call them. So, does anyone have a parts breakdown of the hoses around the power steering pump and tank? Thanks Ash

You can buy R comps, they are road legal, but the dont have the brand name painted on them. My opinion the best R comps for track work Yokohama A050 or Bridgestone RE55. Expect to only get about 5000kms out of them, they are also noisy and not very good in the wet ash -
