  1. a question for the been there done that tuner types. i'm wondering what the best VTC switch off point for my mods would be?... the setting is currently 4700 i and i was thinking of turning it off earlier? its quite a confusing topic after the searching and reading...i don't understand why all the dyno graphs i look at seem to peak up when its turned off...and then i've had other advise to say keep it on longer.... can anybody help me understand this? i'm trying to learn to tune relivant mod list z32 afm upgraded factory turbo running 16-17psi (1.15bar) powerfc fcdatalogit intercooler custom tune
  2. ...yeah was still thinking about the original question....did kinda gloss over the welding stuff...welders are bad...mmmmk.
  3. Yeah i think i'm saying no shit because you don't think i could possibly understand that a welder puts out a lot of voltage....sorry thats the way you came across to me.
  4. its not usually voltage...its current that blows things up...12 volts is 12 volts.. unless you are talking about static discharge voltages.
  5. i noticed they don't slot them very nicely...just two round holes next to each other...so i die grinded the hump between the two holes as this was catching some of the thread when i was trying to put the manifold back on...pissed me off that did.
  6. they don't... they allow for the expansion as you outline....thats why i asked about the slotting of the manifold.....
  7. those thick washers are conical in shape to allow for the expansion.....i've snapped 4 studs before and had to drill out a snapped easyout on cylinder 6....always use the factory washers.
  8. fair enough, i suppose if my tiny little brain is trying to understand it...the pressure builds from the closest point to where the flow stops? would that be a way to think about it?
  9. i thought that was true of water pressure but not air pressure.
  10. hmmm the conical washers are the only thing that are there to take up this expansion...and are some of the stud holes on the manifold slotted slightly? is this why?
  11. probably not the first to do that.... i don't think you will have damaged anything...most things are fused...probably just damaged your ratchet with the little arc welding.
  12. Yeah when i did my manifold studs and gasket last i took to it with the die grinder and took all the casting marks off and tried to port match the end manifold ports a little better...its quite the lip isn't it!
  13. its fine...i've just changed the oil...it drinks probably half a litre between oil changes? i put 5 litres in and about 4.5 litres come out. i've just tidied up the tune so hopefully its a little better now...was running 9 afrs @ wot prior to tune for a good 50-70 thousand kms.
  14. change the oil religiously(every 5k). it doesn't go too bad....this was the other night. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nhb2pNCTWzY
  15. Thats good information to know.... i think i'm probably being a tad optimistic for that power figure given that my donk has done 300,000kms now....perhaps 300rwkw is more realistic. will mosey on over to the hypergear thread.
  16. why not just buy one of these? $75 bucks http://drivenperformance.co.nz/products-page/turbos/turbo-adaptor-t3-t3-with-38mm-wastegate-port/
  17. thats good my tuner thought these might be a restriction....are they worth hpc coating or any of that jazz? what would be the holset equivalent to the 3076r?
  18. Howdi everyone, i've been thinking ALOT about where to next with my skyline. my modification list is as follows PowerFC z32 maf 850cc injectors GTR Fuel pump Evo 3 intercooler (stock piping positions) greddy type rs bov factory exhaust manifold hi-flowed factory turbo. i've been following and looking at the posts regarding the GT3076R turbo and noticed this turbo can fit with the factory manifold. my end power goal is a reliable 450-500hp what is possible with a turbo like this and keeping the stock exhaust manifold?
  19. i know that! i've put out a few cars that have been on fire....i think any wastegate that just dumps to the ground under the car is just plain lazy....i don't think we are arguing about anything...in fact i think we are agreeing....there are many stupid people in this world.
