Does your car still have the Charcoal Canister in it?

If it doesnt you way find that on the end of the fuel tank breather line(which runs into the bottom of the charcoal canister) may be open free to air or have some kind of breather on the end of it. Have seen this on a couple of R32's GTR's and GTST's...

Just a thought anyway...

Good luck!

You will find the charcoal canister behind the front passenger side head light.

See here:

And the fuel tank breather line (I believe its called) runs into this canister aswell as other verious vacum lines.

Check if you still have this...

ur seal where the internal fuel pump could b leaking and venting fuel into the cabin, or one of ur lines are cracked and its got a tiny leak. open ur boot, pull over ur carpet in the back drivers side and open it up and see. mines got a fuel smell coz ive got external fuel gear so i just let it go, makes me happy

Hey There

I purchaced a S13 3 years ago and had the same problem, It smelt like fuel on the inside of the car, I got the Charcoal Canister changed but I still had the smell, I took it to another mechanic who deals with Skylines and he said that the problem is when they change the fuel tank nozzle over to one for Aus, they sometimes do not add enough sealant and the fuel smell can come out of there.

I added extra sealant myself and the smell was gone completely.

Hope this helps

Yeah have read that...

Noticed this post:

If the fuel is actually leaking out from the filler area, it's probably not the seal on the bung for the fuel pump access.

It's more than likely a poor compliance when fitting the new filler neck. As part of the comply, they fit an adapter in the filler neck to suit the small diameter bowser fittings of unleaded fuel. It's sealed inside the factory neck with Sikaflex or similar but if it's not done properly, they smell and leak.

A quick check is does it go "whoosh" when you open the cap? If not it's leaking somewhere and thousands of Skylines have this filler neck problem.

It can be fixed by getting it sealed properly and is usually an overnight job to allow the Sikaflex to cure properly.

I have the exact same problem on a 33... Mine appeared when i changed the fuel pump over (bigger pump)... Some times almost makes me pass out when driving rediculously hard! It is strange how i can only smell it when the car is being pushed hard! Make me think the seal for the fuel tank was not put on properly when my boshc pump was put in... Will investigate when i get time -- not really in a hurry to get it fixed. Just so long as it doesnt catch fire or blow up when some one is smoking around it!

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
