Hey guys, i just spat my turbo on the 33 and in a mad panic picked up a rebuilt one, the original had 45V3 on the compressor housing and the new one had 45V1, and had the compressor fins in pairs. Does anyone know if there are any other differences between the 2, coz the new one goes heaps harder

Why did they change to the lighter nylon type wheel on the S2 and R34 turbo's then?

Not having a dig at all, just curious?

Two factors have a major impact on the rate of acceleration of an impeller:

radius

mass

Increase either of them, and the ability to build boost quickly is diminished.

Note that Blade numbers, shape, inducer size also impact on compressor performance.

cheers

  • 2 years later...

thats the same as mine..

ive got a '96 r33 series2..

i can took a photo of my compressor side..

i got a silver steel wheel..

single blades/fins wheel..

and it says 45V3 :)

so wat the deal?

can someone please explain??

i read that 45V1 & 45V2 is on series 1 R33

and that 45V3 & 45V4 are on series 2 R33

am i rit so far????????????????

then i was lead to believe that...

series 1 have a alloy single blade/fin wheel (is it alloy?or was it steel?????????????) :D

&

series 2 have a nylon twin blade/fin wheel

is this correct?? :D

As far as im aware the "v1" "v2" "v3" means absolutely nothing except the casting number. It has no difference between the numbers. My series 2 had a 45v1 on it and i can guarantee it came like that from factory. I now have a highflowed rb25 turbo and it came with 45v3 on the housing. Means nothing.

Are you sure you're not mistaking it for the black nylon series 2 wheel as it does sorta look like a metal wheel... Unless your turbo has been highflowed otherwise there would be no reason to change that wheel. It's the turbine side that spits anyway there would be no reason for the front to let go before the back.

And the series 2's still have a single blade from memory...

For all intents and purposes R33 S1 and R33 S2 turbos are virtually the same.

While the turbo makeup is actually different there is minimally noticeable difference in performance between them

R34 has a slightly larger rear on it (better for hi-flowing) and does make on average 10rwkw more @ 12psi than R33 items due to this

ah yeah i don't know anything about gtr turbo's but i would daresay they dont have the 45v"x" and would have something completely different as they're smaller turbo's and there's two of them. Sounds to me like he's talking about a gtst. Please advise.

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
