Do the motor registry and/or Police take notice of these "engineers certificates" ?

I went through the pain of getting my vehicle over the dickson pits and registerd just before I did the motor in (3 visits). As rego is expensive I asked a lady at the registry that if I cancelled my rego (cash back) and the car was off the road for less than 12 months would I have to go over the pits again. Answer NO.

Truth turns out to be YES. Now I'll have to do a shit load of visits and depending on the mood and the guys on at the time I am sure I'll get a reaming.

Oh Sin, I'm sure you'll bend over backwards for him.....

No they dont. Police can issue a defect notice for a stock standard car if they wish, its your job to take it to Dickson and get it cleared.

And on that note, Dickson can also reject engineer certificates if they still believe the car does not meet ADR's.

And MYSHY, all 15 year imports have to be engineered to get rego. Cars that came in under a compliancing scheme like mine and sinista's dont have to have engineering certificates for registration (thats what the compliance plate is for).

Nik, have you ever heard of Dickson rejecting an engineer's certifcate before?

If you have, do you know for what reason?

Yes I have, was on an imported car with Blitz technospeed wheels. The engineer had issued a certificate saying it was safe etc ok. Still didnt change the fact the wheels were more than 15% larger in rolling diameter than factory, which meant they were not ADR compliant, and hence rejected.

I was talking to a guy from the Northern Territory at the nats. He had a VL commodore with a RB26 in it. I asked about engineering and he told me he didnt need it! He said that up there, its all done on displacement. So technically going from an RB30ET to a RB26DETT is a DOWNGRADE!

I dont know if he left out any info but if thats true im going to retire to the NT!

Amaru. yes you are correct about the 15 year rule if your car is modified in any way but not if your car is standard you dont need an engineer

you can do all the work yourself and get the side intrusion etc put in and checked

Mainly just saying that you can get anything engineered, but the cops can still anything they want to your car :D

They rejected my engineer's certificate, actually. They said the certificate mentioned "two seats" when obviously the car had four. It took a phone call from the engineer to say "yes it says two seats on that line, then on the next line down it says 'and another two seats'". :(

    • Really, anyone modifying a car isn't being financially smart. We're doing it for the things we love. And honestly, a high revving, light, NA car is actually pretty darn fun. I used to have a Swift Sport, and I miss that thing as a daily, and yes, doing something like some intake and exhaust stuff would have made minimal gains, but would have bought an even bigger smile

    • Yeah, playing with naturally aspirated is not smart bang for your buck power wise, but then I've never been known for being smart when it comes to cars and modifications
    • I mean from V8 world there are gains to be made in intakes and such over stock items, but definitely only if you tune them. We're talking about I dunno, 10kw here and there on a 300KW v8, gains made by tuning in the 0.2 AFR that it changes so YES but also no you won't notice it other than the sound. Duct the air as mentioned 750,000 times and you will notice happier IAT's which definitely make a difference N/A. I mean my unsubstantiated guess is you'd go from 140kw with everything stock (after cams) to 145kw with everything and a tune :p
    • I decided to "spend baby spend", and "risk it for the biscuit" 2 Orders were made buying parts that I "don't really need but really really want" totalling $2.5k AUD 1: In stock items (intake plenum and throttle body) 2: The airbox thingie, with no real ETA for them getting more stock, so patience will be required
