Hey everyone

I wasn't sure where to post this, but since im from vic, i thought i'd ask someone from vic. lol. Im looking at buying an aftermarket fuel pump for my r33 gtst which needs to be able to handle a fair amount of power. I was recommended by autobarn to use a bosch 044. I don't know much about fuel pumps. i believe these are external? I've been told by friends that these can be quite noisy. Could someone explain wat that means. Also last night i was told that i would be better off getting a Walbro fuel pump. Are these internal or external? Wats the best thing for me to do. I didn't wanna spend more than probably $250. Just not sure the best option to go for. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Cheers

Guesty

044 is external. unless you're intending to output over 350kw at the wheels i would stick with an internal bosch 040, which you can buy for under $250. Walbro's are shit dont bother.

any particular reason why you say walbro pumps are shit?

actually...i brought a bosch 040 for my r33gtst, the workshop told me to get rid of it, hard 2 put in, surges around corners and to put in a walbro...said there much better...this was from a respected performance shop...havin already brought my pump i decided to go my own way and put the 040 in.....works fine, lil noisy

Walbro's are good in respect to fitting and noise but definately not reliable....I have 2 cases which burnt out with in 6 months

Bosch 040 is good and reliable, little harder to fit and probably wont sit far down in the tank...so if your low in fuel you might get surges

any particular reason why you say walbro pumps are shit?

unreliable, know of 2 people who've had a walbro "500hp" pump fail on them and they were supposedly genuine pumps.

the walbro pump is physically smaller than the bosch 040. the bosch IS a prick to install, but remember that if you go for an external pump you will also need a lifter pump inside your tank regardless... certainly not a $250 excercise.

the walbro's are rated at 15volts in the r33 they only run at 12volts so they never run at their optimum charge, hence "they're crap" run a 15volt direct circuit to them and they should be OK.

skyline r33 gtr pump should be fine for your requirements and is a direct fit. the bosch is only noisy if installed incorrectly. normally it should be quiet

/end shameless plug :)

Well from the sounds of it

Im leaning towards the Bosch.

Fitting hassles are neither here no there.

Wat else do i require if i fit say an 040 or 044

When u say there noisy, wat do u mean. Wat kind of sound, is it loud. Can u here from cabin. I've just never seen one of these installed.

Thanks everyone for your speedy replies.

Been a great help.

I have a Bosch 044 external installed in the boot and it is pretty damn loud, but i have gotten accustomed to the sound

Ever hear speaker noise from a stereo system with earthing issues or rca's running along side the power cables? Well the sound is similar to that but deeper and a little louder. Definately heard inside cabin, and over a loud exhaust.

The Bosch 040 are alot quieter, and can only be generally heard while primming the engine b4 start-up.

    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
