LOL...like claiming the GTR won Bathurst the year it broke down and got beat by a VL

There's a slight difference between mistyping 90/91 instead of 91/92, and saying that "Godzilla" refers to the RB26DETT or that its the ATTESSA's fault.

It commented on howe the car was a spectacular failure for Nissan in the showroom...Little did the article realise that it would be years later that the Aus motoring public would embrace the GTR.

I have that and the original 89 artcile in a box somewhere...i just couldnt accpet it was a better car then my dream VN Grp A Commodore :)

Ironic, isn't it? ;)

But yeah, you can thank Nissan Australia for the failure of the Australian delivered R32 GT-R. "Godzilla" or not, no-one that wasn't filthy rich in the early 90's was going to pay $107K+ for a Japanese car. And they could have gotten the car a shitload cheaper if they hadn't foisted the Maxima upon us.

GODZILLA was coined for the r32 so as far as i am concerned it is the only model that deserves to be called godzilla look at the specs in stock trim the 32 was quicker 1/4 mile times than the 33 or 34 so they are lesser monsters still monsters but not godillas

Not so the 34 is quicker than both 33 and 32 down the 1/4 mile, as well as higher top speed !

I thought it was 0.2 secs slower, according to Nissan factory specs.

Also don't know about different models, but the base 34 model.

Not saying thats 32s are better, R34 GTRs are better in every aspect.

But yeah, i thought the 32s had a quicker 1/4 standard.

The GTR was never really intended to be a drag car, but a track car so that is of little importance.

In fact the modern cars have improved so much that in a BMI track battle the GTR32 was almost handed its ass by a V35 350GT while the R33, Evo, STi and R34 cleared out completely. The GTR33 was also more then 20 seconds faster at the 'Ring and the way Gan San throws it around with some insane driving shows the confidence of the improved chassis on the racetrack. Demonstrates the value of improvement.

Also if the 32 is so great, how come there were none racing at Calder last night while a GTR33 set fastest time? Oh sure there were no drags but come on...... :)

You guys have such an inferiority complex :)

Meh.

At least 32s don't look like the Nissan equivalent of a Camry. :P

Pfft...track car. LoL.

I have never seen factory tests , the only tests i have seen are in motoring mags and they all different .

This is from my own experiance , i have owned all of them at some stage and i have found the 34 to be slightly quicker . Dont forget it has more power than 32+33 ( but Nissan quote 280ps on all of them but they do quote more torque for 33 and even more for the 34 ) . I may say that the 34 runs higher boost than both the older mods as well . It is the heaviest of them all although its smaller than 33 and a little bigger than 32 . Dont forget a v-spec II 32 is not much lighter than 33 .

All 34's have the same engine turbos and power besides N1 and NUR-spec .

In stock form the 34 is by far the fastest around the track, it has better suspenssion by far and its the only one with alloy lower control arms ..

As for calling it a godzilla or not i dont realy know but who cares?

R33 and R34 were banned from racing so how are they meant to prove themselves like the R32 did

those V8 shmucks learnt their lesson and dont wanna get humiliated all over again by the next generation of "godzilla"

Not that it matters, but thats not correct. They were still raced in the classes that they were eligible for. They ran at Le Mans, and various other series in various guises.

They were not banned from racing. The world over, Grp A Racing was disbanded. It was getting too expensive, and support was dwindling. Most European countries embraced 2L racing, the Germans did the DTM thing, the Aussies with no international Saloon racing formula came up with our own series with the support of the two biggest local manufacturers.

Its liek tomorrow if the FIA and Bernie scrapped F1, the manufactureres woudl look to another sweries and run whatever car to suit that class. You couldnt run around and say because Renault dominated laster years F1 series itr was banned from running.

The class no longer existed, so how could they have been banned form something that didnt exist ?

Does the word 'Godzilla' have any meaning? If so, what is it?

Godzilla is the name of the giant sea-monster that is the star of a series of hit Japanese sci-fi movies. There are a few different stories as to where the name came from. It seems to have been made by combining two Japanese words - gorira, meaning 'gorilla,' and kujira, meaning 'whale,' to make the Japanese name 'Gojira.' In English, this name is written 'Godzilla.' So, you can see that, at least in name, Godzilla is half-gorilla and half-whale. Some people also say that originally the name was used as a nickname for a large man who worked at the movie studios where the Godzilla movies were made. You can find more information on Godzilla by checking out Hi-Tech Japan.

Godzilla is half gorilla half whale.....that perfectly describes an R33 GTR to me.

I never use the term Godzilla....seems a little juvenile.

Ah, found it.

The middle column reads:

"July 1989. The cover of Wheels carried the GT-R. "Nissan's new Godzilla on wheels..." ran the coverlines. It was a name so apt that it stuck.

;) @ scathing

Cheers Cowie.

Beats me having to look through several editions of Wheels spread over 3 locations to find the latest pat-on-the-back they gave themselves over the name.

and i think were all talking about the GTR being banned in the australian race scene

...LOL, read what i posted :P

They were not banned. The series that they raced in , commonly known as Group A Touring Cars was scrapped as a concept. The series ceased to be. It was canned internationally, and Australia was stuck in the position hat if they wanted to stick with the regulations of what was a scrapped series... well actually they couldnt . No manufacturer was going to build special edition road cars to homolgate to race as per the series regulations, especially not for a market our size.

So, please...stop saying they were banned...its flat out incorrect. Be it Australia or anywhere else in the world.

Its like if the ATP scrapped the tennis Grand Slams, you cant say that Federer was banned from playing tennis because he was too good.

LOl, get it :( Dont give the V8 purists any ammo against us by perpetuating myths :P

What Roy says is true. In fact the seasons were getting so poorly subscribed by competitors that a major change had to occur.

BTW just snapped this to fuel the fire

    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
