When i had mine tuned it did feel a like the power came on alot smoother and according to the dyno sheet i have it was getting alot better air/fuel mixtures and it also did yeild a decent power increase i think it was like 5 - 7 kw though i am not 100% sure.

The main reason i got my SAFC II was because with the few bolt-on mods i had the goold old ecu started doings it typical nissan rich and retard...

In saying that though mine has gone stupid its almost like its lost its settings maybe the connecting is loose who knows but it has gone back to being very rich. When i get a moment i will take it back to a new tuner to get checked out.

My car is sporting one. I found that it partially fixed the missing/flat spot problems through the high rev range and increased power due to the alteration of the previous very rich air/fuel ratios (at that stage running 12 psi with aftermarket intercooler, exhaust etc – my standard R33 computer going into super rich air/fuel ratio mode). Although I feel the missing problem was a combination both the rich air/fuel ratios and faulty coil packs (now they are painted in a pretty blue heat resistant paint and work like a dream).

I wouldn’t be surprised if I gained at least 15rwkw after getting the SAFC tuned, and the power delivery was much smoother as Leech has said above. As I picked mine up second hand for a relativity cheap price it has been a very good value for money modification providing both a good increase in power and power delivery. Hope that helps :)

EDIT: Actually from what I remember (ive got a bad memory though :P ) the dyno run before it was tuned was getting close to 190rwkw (somewhere in the high 180’s at least) and now after the tune getting 210rwkw. Quite a large increase in power…

Alittle bit off topic but does anyone know if the VAFC and SAFC are anydifferent besides the VAFC having to a control for Vtec. And could the VAFC control VCT on a rb25??

Just wondering cos i've been offered a really cheap brand new Apexi item, but I can only get 1 and not a whole bunch.

Check the VAFC application charts on the apexi website (www.apexi.com). I think you will find they will work with Honda vehicles only. They are very specific about only using it with cars on that list “Do not under any circumstance use this product for any car application other than on the applicable vehicles”. Stick with the SAFC eh?

I just ordered one then. Got it for $300 plus delivery of $60. Thanks for the replies. Now I only have to worry about who im gonna get to tune it. Any suggestions :(

Pete at Autotech in fyshwick is the man you want to see, he tuned my SAFC, A/F ratios are a bit healthier and i gained 0.6 rwkw to boot

that sounds pretty shit to me... though i guess like most things it depends on existing mod's, engine size, how much you strap it.

When my car was bog stock i was getting like 480 - 490 around town. Since putting the few mods i have on and increasing power i am now at around 450ish maybe 470 on the odd occasion.

I can vouge for that considering i was dumb enough to stand like 10 meters from it last dyno day and get absolutly covered in shit :)

Im yet to find someone to beat me for the sheer amount of black crap on the back of their car  I wash it and its filthy again within 1 day though :D

I put an old school SAFC in my car a few weeks ago (push button type).

My car was previously running 187rwkw with the AFRs sitting at around the 13 mark (pretty dangerous).

After the SAFC install and tune the car put out 206.6rwkw, the AFRs went down to 12 and the powercurve was alot smoother.

Worth the 360 your going to pay IMO.

Then again, different cars get different results.

I had a 32 gtr but blew it up and yes its all going into a vl but im looking for some advice from some RB nuts on pros and cons on putting a 26 head on a 30 bottom end is it worth it Works are as follows Head -Extensive porting 1mm oversized supertech valves Supertech double springs Supertech valve guides Supertech titanium retainers Tomei solid lifters Tomei 270 x 10.25 cams Head drain Bottom end series 2 rb30 block Cp ceramic coated pistons Eagle rods Romac balancer Oil restrictions  O ringed blah blah spent a fortune And will get a girdle because the 30s arent used to handling that much rpm Nitto billet oil pump Hypertune plenum 6boost mani Refurbed astra pump thats the cover for it in the boot I did have a precision 6262 but sold it because drag car life. Currently building the ass end full 4 link floater rear end with a 2 speed  But the dilemma i have is my mate rekens I should just stick with the 30 head for reliability. Has any one had any issues with mounting the 26 head ie compression blowing gaskets etc. Just looking for some advice from people who have gone down this route. Here's some photos. Blew the oil pump in the gtr and decided to rip the motor out at the time and do a full build only to find it had been a repairable write off so went down this path.

    • lol no cats running str pipes … might put the high flow back on but I suspect it might effect my ignition timing a bit.
    • That looks a bit like yellowing to me. If the rear bar was looking like that from rich idle, I'd ask the question, do you have a catalytic converter fitted, and fully working?
    • Oh yeah gets really bad down here. I’ll have to upgrade the heater and wind screen wipers as well for optimal performance.
