Subs Cut Out

After installing my new headunit about a week ago, my subs arent working anymore. They worked fine for the first week, but one day they started to cut in and out, then completely stopped working. I thought it might be a wiring problem, but i havent found anything suspicious. I dont know a great deal about stereo setups, but this is what i did to test it:

I hooked my subs up to a mates amp, and they work. So the subwoofers arent blown.

I put another amp in place of my amp, and it didnt work.

Power cable, ground cable, remote wire and rca leads are all connected properly.

So this makes me think it is a problem with the headunit? Or maybe i think something is ok when it actually isnt..

Any suggestions on what it could be, or some way to figure it out would be appreciated..

Thanks

I would check to see that the amp switches on when you turn on the head unit, then unplug the rca leads from your head unit and touch the ends of them, the subs should make a bit of noise - if that works then I would start looking at your head unit...

i would say its your remote turn on. try hooking it up to the accesoriers if it turns on its your head unit. take it back and get them to replace it. also check the fuse on the power cable and your grounding wire.

A multimeter could be your best friend. Black tester to ground somewhere, then red wire to the remote wire in the boot, and have someone turn your headunit on. See if there's any power there at all.

It really does sound like your amp (and your test amp) are simply not turning on?

How is the amp powered? Is there an inline fuse?

Check your power wire with the multimeter!

  • 2 weeks later...

possible cause... (well from experience)

most older amps cannot accept any pre-outs over 2volts and start to cut out and in when you feed a signal to it..

your older deck may have had 2V pre-outs and your new one could have possible 4V~6V pre-outs depending on brand...

    • Cheers Lads Looking at changing up a few things maybe go 2.8lt, bigger injectors with more a modern Turbo. Possibly transbrake and convert to E85 with Haltech ECU. Any thoughts on those Mods changes or better ideas? Want to try keep the car Street/Strip While also being weekend drivable still.
