ive bought a couple cheap pocket pc 2000's off ebay, will see if they work with it, if so i can send one your way for you to try out

hey mate,

well i have your program working on my laptop now (can't get datascan to work properly...)

its an awesome program

i take my PDA everywhere as its a phone/diary/resource (i use it to store all the resource data i need for uni), so it would be quite handy if i could work it on my pda

...but having a full-time pda in the car would never be something i would do as my car isn't hardcore enough for that..

sadly, i have abandoned the idea :)

we'll ill see if they work well first. if so, u can have one for the cost of postage, and ill only hold you to provide some good feedback/suggestions for future improvements :)

u already have the null modem, all u would need for perm car setup would be to mount it somewhere, and get a car charger adaptor.

i gotta save some face after insisting it should work :)

also would be good to find out how cheap a pda can be gotten to run it. the pda i got is pretty much the lowest spec ive come across (133mhz, 16mb) so it will be interesting.

shouldnt count chickens just yet though, best learn from past failures :(

will let u know when ive got them and whether they work or not.

Pete that HP548 loaded .net cf and ecutalk successfully. Now I'm waiting on the null modem and sync cable.

So far:

DIY Consult $50

HP548 $90

Null modem $6

Serial Sync $8

We'll be in business by the end of the week for the princely sum of around $160. Giddyup.

got the two jornada 540's today, tested both and they work pretty well suprisingly, given its only 133 mhz cpu.

updates sensors about 1-3 times a second depending how many etc. basically its fast enough to be cool/useful.

pretty happy. they can be picked up for as little as $40 on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...item=9708012766). the racs_aus or whatever the seller is of that item regularly sells them.

Why is stuff always cheaper AFTER I've waited patiently and thought I paid a fair price. $40? Bugger.

Peter I'll paypal some money over to you and you can bid on my behalf when I upgrade the 548 :)

btw whereabouts in Western Sydney are you? I'm in Blaxland.

blacktown area.

surprisingly the 540's i got were actually 547's, ie 32mb memory. 547's supposed to be same as 548 except 547 dont have USB cradle, however this even came with a USB cradle

one had a slightly duller backlight so im shipping it off to warren when he sends me his address :)

this one went for $30:

Ok Pete, next task: universal pda cradle/holder/something tidier than glue-on velcro to mount the pda on the dashboard.

Any ideas? I checked around but didn't find much. That said, I'm the guy that looked and looked and then paid twice what you did for a pda! :D

Nice score on the 547, sounds very nice. If it works as nicely like you've mentioned, perhaps I'll keep the HP and leave it in the car.

Good on you for shipping one to warren, there should be more of that in the world :D

something like this?

i havent looked in to car mounts at this stage as i dont drive my car enough/long distances to use it

Nice! That's what I'll need to purchase.

I ceased procrastinating today. I pulled the laptop apart, cleaned the heatsink, re-pasted the CPU, loaded .net framework, loaded ECUTalk beta and plugged it all together.

10minutes later I traced the power loss to AFM1. The voltage drops to 0.8V whilst AFM2 is still outputting 2.0V+ :) The car actually stalled at the lights tonight, due to AFM1 dropping out and the ECU didn't catch it in time.

I came home from work half hour ago and played around for a bit, trying to suss out which one was AFM1. I worked it out when I managed to trigger limp-home mode when I pushed hard on one of the AFM plugs.

So, I found AFM1 and it appears it is a connector problem. I thought it might have been a bad/corroded earth - I'll do a little more fault finding over Easter and hopefully clear this up for good.

Pete if you let me know your PayPal email, I have $25 that would have gone to the Datascan people. You offered your program gratus and I appreciate it mate. ;)

Successful operation on HP548. HP ActiveSync -> null modem -> Newkleer DIY interface -> ECU.

I felt that the display was much laggier than I am used to seeing on the P4 laptop. Then I read your PPC 'Known Issues' and I may have selected 6 or 7 bytes of data. That said, when only AFM and AFM(RH) were selected it did not refresh as fast as I would like. Price you pay for a 133MHz PDA :P

Peter the only other issue encountered was that the number of sensors available (R32 GTR) ran off the page and I was unable to scroll down to select.

I am very grateful for the time and effort you've put in to ECUTalk, hats off! Perhaps a nice Ipaq 4700 would do the trick :) I take my PDA everywhere I go so it is much handier than lugging the laptop and having it loose on the passenger seat.

Cheers,

Mark

and the AFM problem was dry joints inside the meter itself.

i dont think the slowness is due to known issue, its just that ppc u have. like on the now second news post on the site, the 548 is pretty much the crappest PDA speed wise u can get that it will 'work' on. the fact it works at all is pretty good - its a pocket pc 2000 (original ppc) which is now like 6-7 years old.

my testing was roughly 1-3 updates a second maybe, which isnt that fast obviously, but since the jornada 548's can be got off ebay for like $30-40, cant be expecting too much.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
