I rang transport SA and they said that all neons are flat out illegal, but I can't imagine that to be the case.

There HAS to be some way to legally have them fitted to the car, it can't be as obvious as that.

For example, where they're securely fitted, unable to be seen (the actual neon bars themselves), and are a colour not associated with any emergency vehicle or whatever, it should be ok.

And in the event where they ARE the same colour as an emergency vehicle, what should that matter? Cops have their lights on the roof, not the underbody.

...how cool would it be to see an ambulance with red and blue underbody neons!

Ive got a red LED light on the 'foxeye' part of my Fireblade (a little running light that sits under the headlight). It was way too bright, so I sprayed it black, will change it to a light colour like white or fog-light yellow.....

Maybe just keep the neons inside the car, say around the door openings? So when you open the car doors the neons shine brightly to those looking from outside?

It's been covered a bit but I'll try and give you the whole speal. White lights only at the front while driving. Red lights at rear or white reverse. No other combinations are legal. This includes different colour shades of headlights(green/blue etc). They used to allow yellow parkers etc, but this has been repealed.

No other lights are to be emitted from a vehicle in motion at night. The main reason for this is yes, it does distract other drivers. As well as the brightness ruins 'night vision'. While on the topic of night vision, driving lights are for highway use only, turn em off in the burbs.

And as for those wank factor lights in washer nozzles, they can be mistaken for emergency lights in unmarked police vehicles (you know, the ones that come from nowhere, when you last want to see them.) Without a word of a lie, I have actually seen red and blue flashing ones! (that bloke is answering to 'Mr Judge')

If you're parked at a cruise spot or just on the side of the road, don't take anyone's word that it's OK. There are some coppers out there that will challenge you. Just try to pass the attitude test.

All in all, it takes more than a hundred bucks at Autobarn to make your ride respectable. Most go down this path and end up with the look they paid for - cheap. :)

They are illegal in any colour to have the on while driving cause they cause distractions to other motorists.

Why do u think they label them on the packets for "off road use only"

oh so true :)

They are illegal to use at any time when the vehicle is in use on public roads. So if you can't live without them, put a little switch on your dash, and turn them on in your driveway so you can feel happy. OR put them on anyway, because we'd probably be spending the money on something equally as defectable, so legally it's all the same!

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
