Dohmar
IT is insane that they think they can stop torrenting. But the big issue is why are movies on ITunes $24,99, when you can go out and buy brand new, new release movies from places like BigW for under $20, Surely if they don't have to produce, package, ship, wholesale then retail an actual DVD, then the actual cost of the movie should come down significantly. If these stupid movie studios charged $5 to download a DVD quality movie, then many, many people less would pirate them. Spot on. The other issue is the format - I bought Star wars on VHS back in the day. Then the THX edition. Then the DVD and so forth. Pretty f**king stupid to pay for the same content over and over again... if they had an online model where you bought the rights to the movie and they would let you download new remuxes then I doubt anyone would pirate anything. I think the phone market (iphone/android) has got it nailed - charge a very low price to tonnes of people rather than charging a high amount and having much less users.. Stupid industries hanging onto an outdated business model is whats happening. pistol-pete
If these stupid movie studios charged $5 to download a DVD quality movie, then many, many people less would pirate them. see i disagree there. why would anyone feel inclined to pay for something they already get for free when there's no incentive to do so? particularly these days when unlimited broadband has become common place. i mean since i realised that tpg changed my plan to an un-metered one, ive started downloading blu-ray rips of movies which are usually between 4 and 8 GB. last month i used about 350GB in downloads alone. the only way i see movie or tv piracy decreasing is if pay tv became cheaper. and if a ticket to the cinema wasnt 20-f**king-dollars Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/108819-computer-jargon/page/206/#findComment-6341866 Share on other sites

Nightcrawler
But Pete, most movies we download are crappy rips and cams/screeners. I am talking about the movie studios making movies available at or near cinema release time in 720p for $5-$10 and you OWN it. It depends how fussy you are with quality though I suppose. I have 24" monitors and most movies I download look plain awful compared with 720p content. pistol-pete
i stopped downloading cams and screeners a while ago. now i just wait for 720p rips. i understand what youre saying andrew and i sort of understand the appeal of it too, but i just dont see it happening. the entertainment industry in general is just too hungry to string every last cent out of something to lower prices that drastically. It has a quad core cpu, higher res screen than the GSII, and ships with ICS (obviously with a Touchwiz skin) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/108819-computer-jargon/page/206/#findComment-6343368 Share on other sites
Luciano
so the galaxy s3 release this morning. no super amoled HD same 8mp camera no faster cpu same ram doesnt even look like they released it with ICS.. the nexus and the one x look better.. was sold on it pre-release but not sure now. thoughts? Tell you what, they (Samsung) did a bloody good job of creating speculation and hype up till the release... I was sold on the s3 as soon as I read the first bit of info & specs in the Samsung unpacked app this morning. Would love to get one but still fair bit of time left on my contract - so will wait out till something better/newer arrives. Big fan of the new handset shape - much less iphone-ish, reminded me a lot of the nexus from first glance. Quite cool new features from the looks of the reviews. From what you list in your post it doesnt sound like any improvement over the S2 - but that's really not the case. Definitely ICS - they'd be pretty silly to release it with GB... Some people aren't big fans of TouchWiz either = but hey it's Android - install a different launcher... flash it... One X is pure awesome. Both phones will have their pros and cons. At the end of the day they are the best of the best latest droid mobs available. Having run the S2 for a year now - I'd grab the S3 for sure. The S2 has been pretty flawless!
