Recently got new wheels and tyres and waited til late tonight (went out the door around 12:10) to see how the car handles with the wider rubber and slightly higher ride height. Had a fine time and was happy with grip (need to lower it and get better suspension and a sway bar though), came hammering up the highway, not a car in sight, dodged a friggen sheep on the road at the top of 4th (car is stock aside from a POD) and thought ok that means time to go home. Straight lined a deserted round-about and then got pulled over and told i'll "probably be sent an infringment notice for 80km in a 60 zone" I asked to see the camera reading which he couldn't provide as he used the 'keep distance and even speed and wait for me to pull away then guess my speed technique' Which i know is legit as a mate of mine is a cop in another Vic town. I honestly have no idea how fast I was going, probably more like 90. I'm not disputing the fine at all I'm just annoyed as we all are if/when we get a speeding fine.

I also understand that he's doing his job and that speeding is dangerous and especially near intersections/round abouts so don't turn this into a debate =D Just annoyed =\ I even waited til later when there's no traffic and it's quiet and used quiet out of the way roads =\ Driving as a hobby is hard soemtimes, there's not an abundance of track days at Winton either so that doesn't help =\

Anyone know what the going rate for 20k's over is $$ wise? Something like $200 or is it more? I've had two tickets 2-3years ago for minor less than 10k's over by accident speeding fines so points wont be a problem.

Anyone know the rates?

</rant>

Time for bed.

Sorry to say, but theres your probalem right there mang.

I hate to use 'should've done this...' posts but you should've waited until the next track day :P

Yeah I know I should've waited. I'll wear the fine, I don't dispute that at all, just felt like ranting =\ It would be nice if there were more places to drive fast safely and more often though.

Cheers CLN - not too bad then =) Still, $210 could be worse. Though I could've spent that on a sway bar like I was planning =\

I thought even if they paced you, they still needed to provide evidence? Don't police car speedometers have a hold function or something where it can keep the needle at the same point so they can show you or something? I always thought if they refused to provide evidence at the road side then you can dispute the fine...

Im no lawyer though, so dont take my word for it

No idea 0_o Mate of mine is a Vic cop and I've asked him for his advice, either way they seen me straight-lining the round about so I'll have to wear the fine. =( No-one wants to pay it for me do they =D

silly silly silly boy, late at nite, when cops see a car, they are gonna eagle eye it as there isnt much traffic late at nite. Your more likely to get pulled over for no reason to.

What your cop mate said is totally legit

they dont have to provide you with any evidance.

They wil say we were pacing u for x amount of time ant x speed, here is your fine, have a nice day.

There is a certain amount of distance they have to test your speed tho. Its not like whoa looks like he is speeding lets get him. Im sure they record it in their journals or what ever that x car got caught doing x kms over the speed limit.

Thats just how it is.

Im all for speeding fines and things. Speed cameras ... meh in certain spots, bottom of a hill n just dodgy places r gay. and useless spots like on the fwy to geelong or hume, etc.

i try not to speed, i do tho, and i wont be happy if i get a fine. But what can u do.

Although i hate fines u get for say 4 over the limit :P

remember kids, if your going to speed make sure you have a pregnant woman in the car, or someone

who looks like they may be pregnant :P

'nothing to see here officer, just off to the hospital'

speeding though... tsk tsk tsk

you think that's bad? I got 2 fines within 1 hour on the West Gate Freeway last month, one for 4km/h over the limit ($131 + 1 demerit point) and another for 12km/h over ($230 + 3 points) literally 45 minutes later -- both by new hidden speed cameras. you got off lucky :/ never had any speeding fines before, or even been pulled over before!

4ks.....thats friggin harsh mate, you deserve pity for that one :D

I got done doing 127, 3points, kick ass fine but the thing is I was followin anther car he was in the right hand lane and I was two lanes in to be safe i was 100 mts behind as well, only one flash and it was me, go figure.

10kph - 24kph $210 3 points

In a 110kph zone by 20kph, but less than 25kph $210 3 points automatic One month suspension...

What the?!?! so doing 80 in a 60 zone is safer and receives a lower penalty than doing 130 in a 110 zone?

Go figure.. and I thought WA was bad!

Just got done on the weekend for chirping through the gears in my GTR (first and second) and I wasn't speeding just got to 100 bloody quickly. Got me for $240 (undue noise) and 2 points (I thnk) Yes $240! Antihoon squads my ass, revenue raising *end rant*

Now I've got that out of my system, just pisses me off

As the officer was writting my ticket out a HSV 6.0 litre job did exactly the same thing and took off quickly up to 100 on the same street. When he walked over to hand me the ticket I inquired why they weren't taking his details down. The officer seriously replied "You were in a whole different league to that guy" I tried to not smile. :O

Anyway I got caught.

I have to pay $240

I have to explain it to the missus

I have to rant

Guest Mashrock

no scientific proof??

i didnt think that held up in court.. i know my mates got away many times of cops saying he was speeding with no proof.

unless youve admitted to speeding.

then comes down to the song by looptroop

"one more story I don't hesitate to glorify

rule number one you gotta learn how to lie

deny everything 'cause the best evidence

actually comes from your own statements so,"

TOY33: that' sucks man, I feel for ya =\

Mash: Yeah the more people I talk to, the more confident I am that I wont see shit in the mail, will keep you guys posted.

In other news, my Nismo leather gear knob arrived today and it looks and feels like VICTORY! Now just gotta decide where to put the pattern sticker so I dont get booked for that...

    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve.
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
    • Nah, that is hella wrong. If I do a simple linear between 150°C (0.407v) and 50°C (2.98v) I get the formula Temperature = -38.8651*voltage + 165.8181 It is perfectly correct at 50 and 150, but it is as much as 20° out in the region of 110°C, because the actual data is significantly non-linear there. It is no more than 4° out down at the lowest temperatures, but is is seriously shit almost everywhere. I cannot believe that the instruction is to do a 2 point linear fit. I would say the method I used previously would have to be better.
