Heya dudes,

Well with the last few weeks spent hopelessly trying to source a decent RB25, I am starting to crack the sh*ts ;) They are few and far between and the good ones are just too much for my 'dorifto budget' :P

Anyways have been looking around and i know those crazy Malaysians, Thailandians love their JZ conversions, so i thought....WHY NOT....

You can source some decent front cuts for about $3K which is heaps cheaper than the RB25's.....

So what is peoples thoughts..... what are bolt ons like with the JZ's???? I am very noobish when it comes to Toyota engines so just after some advice / thoughts from people who know of or may have done this conversion.....

the exhaust and fuel lines will need to be swaped sides under the car for a start...if the Malaysians and Thai's etc have done it, i'm sure there are some sites with a write up on it.

hmm what about 1uz V8, can make some nice power when turbocharged (also doable with stock internals) plus are a light motor and will have heaps of torque!!

DO IT!!

I was actually going to suggest it but didn't for fear of flamming.

Drift Battle magazine is actually going 1J in their S13 project car. Why not email ben ellis and ask him about it. They are going to use twin turbos, those cheap KKR turbos, the smallest ones. Their goal is 280rwkw at a reasonable. boost level. you will need aftermarket ECU like a microtech etc. And you don't need to touch the internals.

Replicate - Hey dude!! Mate was Drift Battle that inspired the thought!

Might give my mechanic a call and see what he says...

Just over this whole engine BS.....someone wanna build / source me a RB25/30??!!! :P

I was looking at this but gave up when I couldnt find a language converter to read all the thai forums :P

Would be nice. Similar to 1jz > 180 / Silvia I would think. Drift battle has just started theirs so stay tuned :)

Konect - Amen to that....been on the sites and my thailandese and Malay aint what it used to be :P

Does anyone know of someone on here that has done this conversion?? I swear i read somewhere.....or not.....

DOOOOWWWWIIIT!!!!

Oh so your offering to fund this project........ :D Thanks Dave!!!! >_<

Nah the 1jz would be unique for OZ but the more i look into it the more it seems like the bank will take a hard hit.......

Maybe back to the RB25 drawing board.................... :P

Excuse me while i scream .........AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRR

Makes sense in every way... If you do some more research on the 1J you will find it is quite a bit stronger than an RB25... Teflon coasted pistons standard. Much better oil control. Cheapest way to get big power (easy 270+ rwkw) would be a 2nd hand jap turbo kit.

Ando

I reckon the difference in purchase cost of the 1J to the RB25 may be eatern away by the cost of install and the aftermarket engine management. But even if its the same i'd still go the 1J because when you want more power it will be a lot cheaper. And if you want decent power in an RB25 you need an aftermarket ECU anyway...

Plus it would be worth it for when you pop your bonnet and someone goes "WTF!"

Though if it were me i'd still go 25/30. Especially since you can use most of your original hardware to begin with.

Yeah i know the JZ would get great WTF factor but aint worth it....RB30/25...great but meh too hard basket....

BUT i have finally sourced myself a VERY LOW km's Series 2 RB25DET engine / gearbox package...just when i thought i was gonna throw the towel in...the car gods shined apon thy and showed me the way! :P

Series 2 RB25 + R33 GTS-T gearbox minus the pressure & clutch plate which i don't care about as I am getting a ceramic in neways.

So car should be dropped @ the mechanics this w/end to have the beast revitalised with all her goodies!

List of things to go in -

1. RB25DET :P

2. R33 GTST Gearbox

3. FMIC

4. Splitfire Coilpacks

5. 3" Exhaust Turbo back

6. Ceramic Clutch

7. 2 x Recaro's

8. Oil Cooler Kit

Once that is done, I have some money left over for PFC, fuel pump, injectors & hunting around for bigger Turbo.

So all things going well *crosses all fingers & toes* i should have it all up and running within a couple of months.......

So with the correct turbo choice....2530..GTRS...KKR480... i should have my goal of 250+rwkw....

Will keep you updated on the process!

Catch yas!

PS if anyone has a Z32 AFM lying around....PM me!!!!!

Here is a piccy of what she looks like now....gimme a few weeks and I will repost a piccy with her in all her glory....

Great to hear mate. We'll have to have a NSW meet when you get it back on the road. I think i'm going to be very jelous!! Wish i could afford mods :) Maybe if stuff stopped breaking on my car (last month air con compressor, last week alternator and coil packs on the way out) then i'd be able to afford some. Oh yeah and I now need 4 new tyres for rego next month becuase I keep lighting them up around corners (first rwd car so i'm 17 all over again) :(

Replicate - Mate I am obviously keeping my RB20 & also not using the coiplacks that are coming with the RB25 (using the Splitfores). Apparently the coilplacks on the RB20 may be on the way out (according to mechanic), but do the RB25 coilpacks work with the RB20?? I think they don't, but if they do let me know as I will be selling them. Coming of the engine that has a Legit 24,000km's, so the coiplacks are fairly fresh!

Yeah a NSW meetup would be sweet, just will have to be in a couple of months, as the work may take awhile!

More details please....

Konect - Your wish is my command :P

Well the engine came across from Japan from an owner with very little driving done, all history of car and the engine sticker / tag showing details. (will see if I can get a copy posted up)

Hey they could be full of BS :P but will find out shortly as I will look over it this w/end...from the photos I have seen it is in VERY good condition.

Anyways here u go...piccy of engine sticker / tag is crapola (phone camera job) but if u look on 4th column down on Right u will see it states 24,200km's..

    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
