hello,

i am looking for a rouph map of people that run an RB25 with ~500 hp ( =~ 367kw -> ~330rwkw) ... this is my setup:

stock rebuilt engine

PFC PRO w/HC

550cc

FMIC with 2.5" piping

Full 3" exhaust

z32 AFM

T4 Turbo

upgraded plugs

upgraded pump and fuel filter

HKS air filter

twin plate clutch

would be great if some1 could send me a map that is running well and producing this kind of power, because I can take it from there and edit it using my wideband O2 and dyno to make it perfect...

yeah. ive got some maps for z32 and 2530. no quite that spec but its a hell of a lot better than the planejane stock powerfc maps. il attach them tonite as xls's.

ive tuned SR20 with 2530 and gt-rs with various injector sizes aswell. several rb25 maps in various states. and 4 or 5 rb26 maps aswell in various states of tune with diferent turbos and fuel systems.

ok. a few questions.

- is your fuel pressure set correctly ?

- is your ignition timing set ?

- what cams are you using?

bare in mind these maps will get you into the ballpark as goes fuel map settings and full load ignition.

it would just be quicker and probably easier and safer to just tune it from scratch rather than loading someone else's map. also you are (or aim to be) well beyond the limits for stock internals, hope it doesnt go bang.

What do you mean by stock rebuilt engine?

Did you use forgies, race bearings, etc, with stock compression and std head.

OR

Did you rebuild it with stock pistons, etc.

Hopefully you rebuilt it properly, otherwise you will be soon due for another build, with that power.

man, u guys need to have more faith into our engines :D ... fact is that they are RB (RACE Breed :) ), have I-6 and are 2.5l and are turbo engines with a very strong iron block... i was recently reading on here a thread where a guy is pushing his stock RB25 close to the 500hp border or so...

i have seen maany BMW 525i with STOCK I-6, NON-turbo engines with same displacement running 500hp and are still holding together after 1+ year of racing every weekend...

my engine rebuild included stock bearings, stock new piston rings, etc... the only modded part is the 1.6mm head gasket to lower compression a bit... unfortunatley, the cams will be the limiting factors, but i hope to get some poncams soonish...

hmm... fuel pressure is slightly higher than stock due to z32 fuel filter and upgraded fuel pump

ignition i recently set using this round thing (dont know the name in english) that is on the crank

cams are unfortunately still stock :D

EDIT - just wanted to also mention that the great advantage of the RB its short stroke is which can allow reasonably high HP figures, with minimized risk of bending a rod a easily...

and also, i think that the RB25 can hold 500hp, if tuned properly and i anyway have holidays soon, and plently of time to make that wideband and dyno pay off :yes:

research how much power people here are running on stock rb25's. it's possible 280-300kw may not last you very long at all, let alone 330kw.

comparing a bmw inline 6 race engine (for it to have 500hp, i'd suggest just a little work may have been done to it) with a stock rb25 is not relative. saying that because they have the same displacement and capacity so therefore they are comparable, is kinda like me saying i have two arms and legs so therefore would be able to hold my own in a boxing ring with mike tyson.

my suggestion would be to go and get a professional tune, and have a chat with a tuner who really knows the limits of your engine and setup. the couple of hundred bucks could save you a lot of money and pain in the long run.

hmm... i did research and people like LNEMUP are running these sort of figures... its only been a recent tune in his case, but there where others (on nicoclub for example) which have been running between 450-500 hp for a long while already without blowing the stock bottom end...

but come on man, i had a CA18DET with just cosmetic mods running 304 hp and that on only a 1.8l 4 cylinder engine... so i am sure that the RB25 can take that extra 150-200 hp without getting hurt in the long time...

but hey, i am just looking for a map, and not to discuss this topic... i will go through with it, but I still thank for your advice... :yes:

i dont mind whether the map is for an RB25 with forged or not forged bottom end, as long its in the 450-500 hp area, and running simular setup to mine (550cc, z32 afm, t3/t4 etc) ...

ps: how did u come up with "comparing a bmw inline 6 race engine"?? the 525i engine has nothing to do with racing? here they just tune it up, cause its dirty cheap to get a new one cause we have so many... the M Power series on the other hand could be considered an atmospheric race engine... :yes:

then i would have to answer with the question what makes the GTR engine soo much better and stronger than an RB25 :woot: ... i have researched this on forums all over the world for a long time by now and have found out on several occasions that it cant be because of the minimal difference of displacement, nor can it be the rods cause i have seen comparison pictures and read reports on the differences of rods, and there is no significant difference... possibly the pistons could be slightly better and maybe the head of the 26 can flow slightly more, but does that make it resist soo more HP and punishment??

but that doesnt matter, since i am on the lookout for a goood map :thanks:

what on earth are you talking about? its nothing to do with proving anyone wrong. its basically not a good idea to share maps. i mean have mine for all i care, its on my rb25 powerfc DIY tuning thread, but that still doesnt make it a good idea. it would be quicker to tune it yourself or have someone else do it than fix or bandaid someone else's tune

    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve. 
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
    • Nah, that is hella wrong. If I do a simple linear between 150°C (0.407v) and 50°C (2.98v) I get the formula Temperature = -38.8651*voltage + 165.8181 It is perfectly correct at 50 and 150, but it is as much as 20° out in the region of 110°C, because the actual data is significantly non-linear there. It is no more than 4° out down at the lowest temperatures, but is is seriously shit almost everywhere. I cannot believe that the instruction is to do a 2 point linear fit. I would say the method I used previously would have to be better.
