hey guys,

after reassembling my engine i ran some real cheap shit oil to flush out all the crap, and now i want to change it with the good stuff.

i have an extrnal oil cooler, and was wondering if the liter or so of oil still in the cooler will cause any problems?

do i have to undo the piping to drain it? or can i alet it mix with the new oil?

thanks

steve

I'd personally get rid of it myself but then again I'm not an experienced engine rebuilder. But think about it, that oil, which is a significant ammount, has a fair bit of shit in it, do you really want to keep that in the system?

Suppose you could always buy one of those 2Litre refill bottles of good oil to flush the rest out after u've drained it....Run it for 2-3min then drain that last bit out before you fill it properly....

Did that make sense???

-Drain crap oil

-Put in 2 Litre of good oil

-Run engine for 2-3min

-Drain the 2 Litres & Change filter

-Fill with good oil

-Done....Have a beer!

hmmm, i thought about that too, but i dont know.

e.g the good oil im using is 5w60 (or something like) so would it mix up ok if i put in some gtx3 to flush out the bad oil?

whats everyone else doing??

steve

That is some pretty heavy oil you are putting in. It will actually create more wear during startup and shear rapidly with this kind of spread. Take a read on startup wear by Dr AEHaas.

Motor Oil .. Thin or Thick oil?

yeah, thanx for the link, but im using the oil reccoemened by SK him self, so let him know about Dr AEHass's site and see what happens.

Also, it 10w60 im using. I just went and checked it.

Whats everyone else with an external cooler doing???

Steve

Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
