Hi all,

I read all sorts of stories about people modifying engines and getting some good results. I had my Line for 3 years now, I am an old guy with no life so I said WHAT THE HECK...LETS DO IT.

I went first trough installing my intercooler and single stage trubine booster. All was set up for 14 psi and I was doing around 161 kW at the wheels. After I blew 3 standard tubines I got sick of it so ... I bought an HKS kit, mainfold, T04E turbo and external wastegate. They have been installed by a friend of mine without any tuning, car was doing pretty good, felt pleanty of power, car felt different.

At the SAU Dyno day I found out that I was doing somthing like 190kW clean at the wheel. I never saw my boost gauge going over 7 psi and at that moment was hell on earth when the wastegate was opening.

I start to look around the net, I love e-bay and I found the stuff I tought would be good for me: Power FC + Commander+Boost Control Kit, SARD 550cc injectors, Ignition Coils, cam shaft gears, upgrade air flow meter, after market timing belt.

After that I looked on this forum and I find UNIGROUP, Yavuz and contacted him. He was realy kind and done most of the work for me. The project did not go that easy. Most of the work was done but, 2 major problems developed: pipes popping off at high boost and wstegate did not hold at high RPM. We found exhaust blocked and replaced exhaust but the problem still there. Car lunches incredible at low RPM and than my curve just flattens. I managed to reach only 220kW at the wheel. Yavuz told me to try to get a stronger spring for my wastegate but I don't know how easy is that. Is anyone out there which experienced something similar? I wish somebody would say go do that and all my problems fixed. Somebody with similar setup can tell me what power should I expect at this setup?

I added 2 attachemnts of my curves...before and after. Any good comments ar emore than wellcome...(pls no "smart" comments).

Did I left any stone unmoved or..there is more...except of course building an engine from scratch aftermarket....

Cheers,

EUG.

hi eugen,

glad to hear all is going well and your having some good experiences. max power (safe) for stock internals is around 270rwkw ish.

any more and its doubting the safety.

max power (safe) for built engine with forged internals would be a bit over 350rwkw.

Maybe just the Ebay wastegate. Is the turbo a name brand or Ebay job.

If the Turbo is china job toss it out and get a Garrett etc and fit a good spring to the china wastegate(If it is) then retune,300rwkw is possible with a good tuner and thats one thing you do have.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for quick reply. Turbo is a GENIUE HKS and included MAINFORLD..Garrett T04E and HKS wastegate. That was ceramic coated inside and outside and was properly done. Turbo works great....but I do not know spring setting in wastegate.

Cheers,

EUG.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
