Well,

First fo all, apologies all that i havent been psoting in here for a while, I always check it and on SAU everyday, but just stopped posting in SA for some reason, I'll try and get along to the next meet. I think my lack fo posting had to do with my car ebing off teh road late last year due to ECU problems, now and a microtech yay!

Anyway, here's soemthing you may all enjoy to pass soem time at work/ home, a bit of a write up of my time at Mallala on Saturday :(

I've always wanted to do this for a VERY long time, and boy was it good fun!

It was like all my Christmases had come at once!! Cars that were on the track during my sessions

-Peugeot 206 GTI

-Early 90's Celica

-4AGE Powred MR2

-VN Commodore

-Old Kingswood

-This really well set up Corolla Levin Supercharged/Turbo charged import thing

-Commodore R8

-And my favourite, This IMMACULATE '89 Porsche 911

imgp0578.jpg

Was making around 1:30 1:33 laps which i thought wasn't bad for my first time on a track and not pushing to the absolute limits.

Most Satisfying moment- Pulling out from behind cars on straight and tearing past them

Most Funny moment- On like the 2nd or 3rd lap i was catching up to the 206 real quick and on the corner after the long back straight i was getting behind him and as he broke he realised he wasn't going to make the turn and went straight off into the sand trap. hehehe

Most Intense moment- Rounding the long corner on the backstraigth at around 200kph

Best moment overall- Seeing the VN commodore and 911 up ahead on the track a few corners ahead and the next lap catching them and have that wonderful rear end of the 911 infront of me, it had always been my dream as a kid to race with a 911. and Porsche 2000 (PC game) for those who remember was the closest I previously got to it, so that was truly fun.

I was rather supprised how natural being on the track felt, I thought about it, and it came down to a couple of things. Firstly the huge amount of time I've played racing games on my computer/consolewith a steering wheel, and secondly fun though the hills in my car.

Well I know everyone loves a Good piccie and video, So I've got a couple that my GF took, more to come later. Check ti out below

Oh, also I discovered my car is running quite rich on off boost/deceleration/braking. As seen in video and pics just dumping fuel, when ever i have foot on throttle, i have a clean burn and no smoke at all. Have to get that tuned out- luckily i have a microtech :O

Pics- http://users.on.net/~scathie/Skyline/22-4-...ck_Day/mallala/

High Res Video- 98 MB http://users.on.net/~scathie/Skyline/22-4-...vieHr31high.avi

Low Res Video- 14MB http://users.on.net/~scathie/Skyline/22-4-.../StevieHr31.avi

p.s i'm yet to get an edited/ cut version of the vid

Cool.

How often are these trackdays organised? I know of some people (including me) that are dying to get onto a racetrack and have a thrash ever since AIR has been shut down indefinately.

Also who is it organised by and what are the costs and are there any restrictions what type of vehicles can get onto the track?

Cheers

ditto that, i'm really keen to get out there and want to know the costs involved etc!

^^ wot they said driving fast on the road (not include occasionaly hill run) is too expensive if boys in blue see you or sum idiot pulls out in front of you ... not to mention highly eligal talking about 200kph round the back straight

looks like u had alot of fun

**edit**

if u like car games maybee take a took @ this and we can have a MP game sumtime

Yeh no Sh!t was that you out there?????/ I was out there also but with a mate.......we were doing some testing in his Superkart! He was #85(all black).

Your car WAS dumping alot of fuel, especially in turn 1. but nice work, it was good to see a Line out there. I will be joining you at some stage, as well as running Modern Regularity!

Thanks guys! Yea it was well worth it, even afte rmy first 15 minute session the $110 was well spent ;D

Saturday Aug 12th we shoudl aim at gettign out there with a few :w00t:

I saw #85. hehe you guys were throwing it around turn 1!! .. yea i need to get that fuel dumping issue sorted i think!

Yeh foot flat thru turn 1 and then chuck it into turn 2.........he gets around there in a 1:19:50, top speed of about 150-160 down the back straight and average speed of about 110, not too bad for only mm off the ground!

Keen as to get out there in the Line, They had 35 entries in the Modern Reg on Sunday, which was wicked to see, BUT don't think any were Skylines!!!!!

man steve awesome stuff u kno i wouldve joined u if i wasnt working. im gona b at the next one to race u. :)

lets go for a hills drive soon buddy i got all this new stuff ive done (spraypainted bonnet etc.) should give me a few more kws with new paint. lemme know when u can and pm me ur mob ph and hm ph cos i lost it when i swapped to a new mobile ph

not just kms goto add @ least 10kw ;) yesh ill be down for a mallala trip and as i dont work saturday im pretty much up for all weekends

sweet I WANT IN TOO!

Sat August 12th?

What are the rules for coming along? do I need to bring rego papers (diffficult since I will have to bring a hire car unless someone wants to lend me one :P )

There was (to my utter supprise) no scrutineering. I got a CAMS approved fire extinguiher mounded in my car. But what they look for is a blue triangle to identify the location of your battery. all of what you need can be found at Autosport on Magil Road. You dont need rego papers or anything. You cna even take a un reg'd car out im pretty sure.

I have R32 Type-m 4 spot calipers with r32 slotted rotors and EBC green stuff on the front and stock rear with black stuff pads. They didnt smell at all really and NO smoke at all, as for fading.... they did a bit. but i didnt really hammer the brakes, so i didnt find out their real potential.

    • You won't need to do that if your happy to learn to tune it yourself. You 100% do not need to do that. It is not part of the learning process. It's not like driving on track and 'finding the limit by stepping over the limit'. You should not ever accidently blow up an engine and you should have setup the ECU's engine protection to save you from yourself while you are learning anyway. Plenty of us have tuned their own cars, myself included. We still come here for advice/guidance/new ideas etc.  What have you been doing so far to learn how to tune?
    • Put the ECU's MAP line in your mouth. Blow as hard as you can. You should be able to see about 10 kPa, maybe 15 kPa positive pressure. Suck on it. You should be able to generate a decent vacuum to about the same level also. Note that this is only ~2 psi either way. If the MAP is reading -5 psi all the time, ignition on, engine running or not, driving around or not, then it is severely f**ked. Also, you SHOULD NOT BE DRIVING IT WITHOUT A LOAD REFERENCE. You will break the engine. Badly.
    • Could be correct. Meter might be that far out. Compare against a known 5 ohm 1% resistor.
    • @Murray_Calavera  If I were an expert I wouldn't be in here looking for assistance.  I am extremely computer literate, have above average understanding on how things should be working and how they should tie together.  If I need to go to a professional tuner so be it, but I'd much rather learn and do things myself even if it means looking for some guidance along the way and blowing up a few engines. @GTSBoy  I was hoping it would be as simple as a large vacuum leak somewhere but I'm unable to find anything, all lines seem to be well capped or going where they need to be, and when removed there is vacuum felt on the tube.  It would be odd for the Haltech built in MAP to be faulty, the GTT tune I imported had it enabled from the start, I incorrectly assumed it was reading a signal from the stock MAP, but that doesn't exist.  After running a vacuum hose to the ECU the signal doesn't change more than 0.2 in either direction.   I'll probably upload a video of my settings tomorrow, as it stands I'm able to daily drive, but getting stuttering when giving it gas from idle, so pulling away from lights is a slow process of revving it up and feathering the clutch until its moving, then it will accelerate fine.  It sounds like I need to get to the bottom of the manifold pressure issue, but the ignition timing section is most intimidating to me and will probably let a pro do that part.  Tomorrow I'll try a different vacuum line to T off of, with any luck I selected one that was already bypassed during the DBW swap.  (edit: I went out and did it right now, the line I had chosen did appear to have no vacuum on it, it used to go to the front of the intake, I've now completely blocked that one off at the bracket that holds several vacuum lines by the firewall.  I T'd into the vacuum line that goes from that bracket to the vacuum pump at the front of the car, but no change in the MAP readings).  Using the new vacuum line that has obvious vacuum on the hose, im still only getting readings between -6.0 and -5.2.  I'm wondering why the ECU was detecting -5.3 when nothing was connected to the MAP nipple and ECU MAP selected as the source. @feartherb26  I do have +T in the works but wanted to wait until Spring to start with that swap since this is my good winter AWD vehicle.  When removing the butterfly, did it leave a bunch of holes in the manifold that you needed to plug?  I thought about removing it but assumed it would be a mess.   I notice no difference when capping the vacuum line to it or letting it do its thing.  This whole thing has convinced me to just get a forward facing manifold when the time comes though.
    • Update: tested my spark plugs that are supposed to be 5ohms with a 10% deviation and one gave me a 0 ohms reading and the rest were 3.9ohm<, so one bad and the others on their way out.
