Turbos for dummies 101

I'm sorry guys, but i did a search and came up with not much.

Can someone explain all the numbers which describe a turbo; ie. compressor / exhaust wheel size etc etc and all those other numbers i keep reading about? I just have no idea what they all mean...

I just want to know what to look for when changing my turbo, and how to assess what combinations will show boost where etc etc. Thanks in advance.

The numbers aren't of any real value for you to know, what is important is compressor maps and how to determine the effect that the turbo has on your engine.

My advice is to talk to a turbo specialist where they will suggest the best turbo to meet your power and response needs. I could list a whole string of numbers but the don't mean jack if I don't know what your requirements are.

Go to your local library and read/borrow a book called Maximum Boost by Corky Bell. It will tell you all you need to know.
