Yeah that is his problem... ast stated before a rebuild is alot more than $80-$100.

Look mate you've spent anywhere between $9,000 to $14,000+ on your car and beleive me its not going to be the last you spend on her....

If you wanna keep everything on the cheap thats fine but don't skimp on the important stuff.

Next you'll be asking if you can use cooking oil for the 100km service because regular oil is too expensive.

Anyways

1.) r32 gtst does not have a stock boost controller. the boost is regulated by the spring in the wastegate actuator.

2.) R32 gtst (rb20 powered cars) stock boost is 10psi.

3.) buy a BOOST GAUGE. I suggest VDO brand.

it is simple, black face, white numbers red marker. cost about $40 and is very accurate.

This is the simple, to the point and relevant answer.

There is one other possibility. Take it to a shop with a dyno and tell them to install it and set it to Xpsi. They will do it charge you about $150 and you can happily drive away.

I think the real issue here is that you have dissed our cars despite owning one. I can understand you being skepctical of a single post but you have plenty of people here backing it up. Like GTST I get a bit annoyed when I give a detailed and thought out response to someone's question who then ignores it.

As for being stupid and adjusting it without knowing etc, if u read my posts youll note that i said id get it professionally adjusted

as for rice, well type "definition of rice" into google, and youll catch my drift

I think installing it yourself is a good way to learn how the turbo setup works in your car, that way atleast you'll have more of an idea of what happens, how it works and trouble shooting the car..

As for the rice thing - who gives a crap - if your worried about rice than don't buy a skyline - be proud of what you own and tell people to go stick it if they have a problem..

If you need assistance installing the bleed valve - I would suggest reading through the 45 pages on the $22 boost controller page as plenty of people have put up diagrams..

It's not overly hard - also listen to peoples advice on here - they are extremely useful and you have a massive amount of help on here if you run into problems..

Good luck with it and enjoy your car.. Not everyone is wealthy around - but buying something that reads your current boost is essential.. you tap it off the same line as the stock gauge.. if something goes wrong and you blow an because you were running too much boost you'll be regretting it.. spend the 45bucks - maybe get an oil temp gauge later and leave it at that, hide it in the glove box if you want - just get one..

i find it funny that having a boost guage is 'rice'. now i live in 'ferals in commodores central', and you have no idea of what rice is. if you have a turbo a boost guage is like having a fuel guage. its something you need so you don't end up by the side of the road waiting for a tow truck. rice is guys buying a auto commodore then putting a monster 5 inch tacho and shift light in, even though there is a tacho in the dash. fair enough putting a tacho and shift light in a high performance manual car as you may want the shift light, especially if you go to the drags. but an auto car doesn't really need a tacho, let alone a shift light.

as for $80 for a gauge being alot of money, if you either smoke, or drink on a weekly basis, quit for a week and you will have enough money to pay for it.

well ive never had a rice car before so i didnt realize you HAD to have a boost gauge. So theres no tool.. I didnt have to buy a electronic pressure gauge to test my compression, i used a mechanical gauge i stuck into each cylinder and turned the engine over to check. I assumed there was a tool, even if its not turbocharger specific that would measure boost or air pressure or whatever, mechanically but, evidently, the only way of doing it is by buying a boost gauge.

Alot of boost guages ARE mechanical... that is the tool you need. They are a simple vaccum guage.

Thus having a shiftlight wouldnt be entirely useless especially at the drags. Although i dont really see the point of this in a car only used on the street. Lets face who needs to know their optimum shift point when going down the road to get milk and bread.

i don't really class commodores as high performance cars....well not the ones round here. but i mainly just meant that unless you are using the car for drags or racing, or its a show car, you don't need a shift light on an auto. most of the commodore guys round here are the type that would go to the drags and see a gtr run a 10 second pass then go and tell them that a mate of theirs has a vn that would beat it. also had a guy telling me that a guy he knew put a aftermarket computer in his vn that made it so that it only did 180km in second at 1800rpm. i said "that amazing, a computer that can make gears in the gearbox magically change size".

guages arnt rice dude. Not in themselves anyway. They serve a purpose.

Believe my I wish I had a accurate oil presure guage when my bearing spun destroying my motor completely.

Guages can be rice if they are designed like that but they do serve a purpose. A big f**k off wing on a car that doesnt even see much more than the speed limit or go to the track regularly well that is rice in my book as it does not serve a purpose.

If you want to argue about that Ill send you the bill for my engine rebuild?

123456 boost guages are standard fitment (in the company of things like temp guages, speedometer and tachometers) on so many turbo cars one would think that they are somewhat important?!?! As stated earlier your car is 15 or so years old so things will start to deteriorate, so make sure something that important is up to scratch. I would suggest a boost guage to someone with a pnumatic boost controller, is as important as a tacho to someone with an accelerator. IF THEY READ TO HIGH MOTOR GOES BANG (just incase your wondering that is not good) but hey not many people think a forged rebuild is ricey!

My mate had a 10Sec VT SS, he didn't have any big tacho shift light thing, he set the shift points via the computer....

sorry don't see the point in a huge tacho with shift light on a auto....

IMO going by the prices in this thread buying the boost controller mentioned, a guage and pod would set you back between $100 and $120 if you installed it yourself which isnt too hard. if you go the other way and buy just the controller and get a shop to install and set it up to a nominated boost setting it could cost around the $150 mark. Thats already around a $30 saving for the money concious 12345. Although i dont agree that a tool such as a boost controller is rice, if its the "Rice" factor your worried about mount it somewhere inconspicuous so no one teases you for being a "Rice Boy" lol.

I have one of those, $30 is an awesome price. I paid around $70 for mine from Justjap.

Excellent gauge too, very pretty especially at night. Little hard to see in the day but its not too bad. Switch off the engine and it goes completely black, very cool.

I got the turbotech boostcontroller too, a gauge is a must have. Without it you can only guess what PSI you are running on the stock gauge, its hopeless to check of small PSI changes so forget about adjusting your boost controller without an aftermarket gauge

Cool, sounds good, just ordered one. Just wondering what do people recommend to put on the a pillar. I have a twin pillar pod coming and I am trying to think of what to put with the boost guage... air fuel ratio ?

Cheapie gauges are cool too the $35 autogauge ones lots of people on a budget use... shit I even know people who use kmart gauges hehe

alex_r33 you're better putting oil temp, water temp or oil pressure if you want something useful but if your car is a stocker and you don't go to track days and the like you're better off not gauge mounting and mount the boost gauge somewhere else and leave it at that. Anything else is a waste of money imo. I wouldn't even both with anything other than a boost gauge on a stock non track driven car.

    • I did end up getting it sorted, as GTSBoy said, there was a corroded connection and wire that needed to be replaced. I ended up taking out the light assembly, giving everything a good clean and re-soldered the old joints, and it came out good.

KG4900 is for the full set of floor mats, while KG4911 is only the Driver's Floor Mat. FR, RH means Front Right Hand Side. All the Full Set options are now discontinued. However, the Driver's Floor Mat options are still available according to the latest information available to us. We do not know what the differences would be, but if you only want the one mat, we can certainly see what we can find out for you". Interesting. It seems they still have some "new old stock" that Duncan mentioned 🤔. I wonder if they can provide any photos......And i also just realized that amayama have G4900 sets. I'm tempted too. 
    • Any update on this one? did you manage to get it fixed?    i'm having the same issue with my r34 and i believe its to do with the smart entry (keyless) control module but cant be sure without forking out to get a replacement  
    • So this being my first contribution to the SAU forums, I'd like to present and show how I had to solve probably one of the most annoying fixes on any car I've owned: replacing a speedometer (or "speedo") sensor on my newly acquired Series 1 Stagea 260RS Autech Version. I'm simply documenting how I went about to fix this issue, and as I understand it is relatively rare to happen to this generation of cars, it is a gigantic PITA so I hope this helps serve as reference to anyone else who may encounter this issue. NOTE: Although I say this is meant for the 260RS, because the gearbox/drivetrain is shared with the R33 GTR with the 5-speed manual, the application should be exactly the same. Background So after driving my new-to-me Stagea for about 1500km, one night while driving home the speedometer and odometer suddenly stopped working. No clunking noise, no indication something was broken, the speedometer would just stop reading anything and the odometer stopped going up. This is a huge worry for me, because my car is relatively low mileage (only 45k km when purchased) so although I plan to own the car for a long time, a mismatched odometer reading would be hugely detrimental to resale should the day come to sell the car. Thankfully this only occurred a mile or two from home so it wasn't extremely significant. Also, the OCD part of me would be extremely irked if the numbers that showed on my dash doesn't match the actual ageing of the car. Diagnosing I had been in communication with the well renown GTR shop in the USA, U.P.garage up near University Point in Washington state. After some back and forth they said it could be one of two things: 1) The speedometer sensor that goes into the transfer case is broken 2) The actual cluster has a component that went kaput. They said this is common in older Nissan gauge clusters and that would indicate a rebuild is necessary. As I tried to figure out if it was problem #1, I resolved problem #2 by sending my cluster over to Relentless Motorsports in Dallas, TX, whom is local to me and does cluster and ECU rebuilds. He is a one man operation who meticulously replaces every chip, resistor, capacitor, and electronic component on the PCB's on a wide variety of classic and modern cars. His specialty is Lexus and Toyota, but he came highly recommended by Erik of U.P.garage since he does the rebuilds for them on GTR clusters.  For those that don't know, on R32 and R33 GTR gearboxes, the speedometer sensor is mounted in the transfer case and is purely an analog mini "generator" (opposite of an alternator essentially). Based on the speed the sensor spins it generates an AC sine wave voltage up to 5V, and sends that via two wires up to the cluster which then interprets it via the speedometer dial. The signal does NOT go to the ECU first, the wiring goes to the cluster first then the ECU after (or so I'm told).  Problems/Roadblocks I first removed the part from the car on the underside of the transfer case (drain your transfer case fluid/ATF first, guess who found out that the hard way?), and noted the transfer case fluid was EXTREMELY black, most likely never changed on my car. When attempting to turn the gears it felt extremely gritty, as if something was binding the shaft from rotating properly. I got absolutely no voltage reading out of the sensor no matter how fast I turned the shaft. After having to reflow the solder on my AFM sensors based on another SAU guide here, I attempted to disassemble the silicone seal on the back of the sensor to see what happened inside the sensor; turns out, it basically disintegrated itself. Wonderful. Not only had the electrical components destroyed themselves, the magnetic portion on what I thought was on the shaft also chipped and was broken. Solution So solution: find a spare part right? Wrong. Nissan has long discontinued the proper sensor part number 32702-21U19, and it is no longer obtainable either through Nissan NSA or Nissan Japan. I was SOL without proper speed or mileage readings unless I figured out a way to replace this sensor. After tons of Googling and searching on SAU, I found that there IS however a sensor that looks almost exactly like the R33/260RS one: a sensor meant for the R33/R34 GTT and GTS-T with the 5 speed manual. The part number was 25010-21U00, and the body, plug, and shaft all looked exactly the same. The gear was different at the end, but knowing the sensor's gear is held on with a circlip, I figured I could just order the part and swap the gears. Cue me ordering a new part from JustJap down in Kirrawee, NSW, then waiting almost 3 weeks for shipping and customs clearing. The part finally arrives and what did I find? The freaking shaft lengths don't match. $&%* I discussed with Erik how to proceed, and figuring that I basically destroyed the sensor trying to get the shaft out of the damaged sensor from my car. we deemed it too dangerous to try and attempt to swap shafts to the correct length. I had to find a local CNC machinist to help me cut and notch down the shaft. After tons of frantic calling on a Friday afternoon, I managed to get hold of someone and he said he'd be able to do it over half a week. I sent him photos and had him take measurements to match not only the correct length and notch fitment, but also a groove to machine out to hold the retentive circlip. And the end result? *chef's kiss* Perfect. Since I didn't have pliers with me when I picked up the items, I tested the old gear and circlip on. Perfect fit. After that it was simply swapping out the plug bracket to the new sensor, mount it on the transfer case, refill with ATF/Nissan Matic Fluid D, then test out function. Thankfully with the rebuilt cluster and the new sensor, both the speedometer and odometer and now working properly!   And there you have it. About 5-6 weeks of headaches wrapped up in a 15 minute photo essay. As I was told it is rare for sensors of this generation to die so dramatically, but you never know what could go wrong with a 25+ year old car. I HOPE that no one else has to go through this problem like I did, so with my take on a solution I hope it helps others who may encounter this issue in the future. For the TL;DR: 1) Sensor breaks. 2) Find a replacement GTT/GTS-T sensor. 3) Find a CNC machinist to have you cut it down to proper specs. 4) Reinstall then pray to the JDM gods.   Hope this guide/story helps anyone else encountering this problem!
