Hi all,

I'm only just starting to get the bits n pieces required to start doing the track days with SAU-vic and was after a little advise in regards to the anchor points of the 4 point harness..

I have a R33 gts-t

the 4 point harness is an Italian made "motor quality" item

my questions:

1: for the inside (centre conside) anchor point, is it better to put it straight into the point where the factory seat buckle is mounted (which is part of the seat frame)? or maybe re tap the thread to suit the eyelet where the rear seat mount is bolted into the tunnel (frame of the car)?

2: where can I mount the shoulder straps in the rear without too much modification/fabrication? I've seen people mount them at the lower seatbelt points of the rear seat, but I'd prefer to keep a better angle and mount them on the parcel shelf. Can I anchor both shoulder belts off one eyelet (like the attatched pic, best i could do with paint) anchored in the baby restraint hole (will have to re-tap to suit larger eyelet bolt)? that would be the easiest solution for me....

all advise in regards to this welcome, as i realise there's probably around 1001 ways to do this. I also know its best to get a bar fabricatied through a race shop...but dont wish to spend $700 for 2 mount points....if i was going to spend that much i'd be looking at a bolt in cage then mount them off that...

3: I have an approved fire extinguisher with a stainless high impact mounting bracket...wheres it best to mount this? is there any regulations in regards to where it has to be through cams? I was thinking to avoid drilling holes in my car, i'd mount it at the base of the passanger seat, mounting a bar between both front seat rail mount and bolting it to that?

that'll do for now....so many questions hehe.....

i'd love to see ay pics of peoples 33 set ups to get a better idea if anyone has any?

thanks heaps for any help!!

Berin

For the inside point, isnt the seat mounting a stud welded to the chasis with a bolt after the seat? If so, get one of the eyelets supplied with the harness, cut the thread off and tap a thread into the eyelet. You can then use the eyelet as the nut and clip the harness to it. Hope that made sense.

2, For the shoulder straps, the seatbelt (low) mountings are convenient but not right ( a lot of ppl still use them.) I had a cage so it was easy but I assume the baby seat mount is a better solution....what is the mount attached to?

3, passenger seat braket is a great solution, or bolt it to the rear or front passenger floor. It just has to be within easy rach of the driver while in the seat and harness. You won't notice extinguisher bolts thru carpet it is invisible

the baby restraint on the parcel shelf is just a tapped thread into the parcel shelf, but i was thinking of re-tapping it to the 12mm fine thread of the eyelet bolt and maybe puttung a base plate under the shelf where it screws in for a bit of extra strength?

but still not sure if it's ok to anchor 2 belts off the one eyelet?

I dont like the idea of using the child restraint.

Perhaps if you drill a hole at the front top edge and reinforce the back if it. Its just that i woukdnt want to be relyin gon the flimsy parcel shelf steel that is thing gauge and fiull of holes to save me in a accident. what does a baby weigh? probably fine for a 15kg bubs, but not a 90kg adult that just hit the tyres at Dandenong Corner at Sandown:(

What Inasnt said about the left drivers side lower mount....

    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
    • There's not a great deal to report here .... except ...... FOR .... LSD!!!  I bought a Quaife LSD from the UK and shipped it here .... Wish I'd just bought locally cause the shipping and duty was $700! But there were so many diffs used in the E90s I just wanted to be absolutely certain I was getting the right one so I spoke with a supplier in the UK who builds race cars and they have heaps of experience with the E90s.  I pulled the diff out which was seriously awesome - I've never done anything like that before, I must have watched 1000 videos on YT about it as well as consulting the Bentley manual. It was super easy in the end. The diff was delivered to the awesome folks at Hornsby Diffs and will be back in a few weeks. I also replaced the diff bushings with some Nolathane ones.  Really looking forward to getting it back and getting back to the track or even the skidpan.
    • yeah... the 13kg/mm springs weren't always in there, I had 10kg/mm but doing a few SMSP commanded heavier front springs. It's so good now going into T1 and T2, just need more seat time and real tyres.
