A few months back the speedo cable snapped, I lost all power steering and the speedo stoped working, and the car felt pretty weird on turns, all over the place, very unpredictable, so I got it replaced and it was all fine again untill the other day.

While drifting, I felt something snap mid turn, the car started feeling much like that time, the same weirdness, but the speedo is working perfectly and also is the power steering, Ive checked everything I can think of, nothing seems wrong.

Took it to my mechanic, and he cant find anything wrong with it either

Any ideas as to what can possibly be causing this,

P.S. Hicas has been removed by the way, and I have a Nardi on, always have.

Any help would be appeciated guys.

Cheers

Is it the front or back? Whats it doing? Is the back steering itself under acceleration and trying to change direction when you go over ripples in the road. Is anything knocking? Does it look like all the wheels are sitting in the right spot?

Are you running cheap shit camber arms/ball joints that could have been flogged out?

It could be a stuffed castor rod, could be a stuffed rear bush or flogged our rear tie rod. It could be a lot of other things too.

Need more info!

i took it to the mechanic and he didnt find anything wrong under the car, he would have check bushes and arms and the like.

it kind of feel like the back of the car is lifting up and wanting to go on a different direction when turning. Nothing is knocking thou.

what do you mean by the wheels sitting in the right spot?

i took the hicas computer off, to see if it was a hicas related issue, and i lost ps but didnt fix the problem.

Can the wheels steer themselves after removing the hicas? is that even possible? i might put a pic up to show the set up

at the back but im pretty sure its been locked.

Cheers

Is the hicas locked with a bar or is it just a shimmed rack? If you felt something snap it would be fairly obvious when looking from underneath. I'd rule out a bent tie rod as thats a fairly obvious one to look at.

If it's a rubber bush it will gradually get worse over time rather than just let go so i'd rule that out, but at the same time it will be flogging out other components like ball joints and tie rods

As it suddenly started i'd check that the tie rods in the hicas rack haven't worked loose or pulled out of the hicas rack, Check that the studs in the subframe are all intact, check that the ball joints are ok, things like that.

Other than that, there's not much more i can offer.

    • So either way it is gearbox out and look what is wrong?  I know about the input shaft bearing. Even before swap/new clutch the it sounded exactly like this: So is that inout shaft bearing or the other was installed backwards?  And can some please tell me the part number for that input shaft bearing? The gearbox is small box from R34 N/A and number is FS5W71C. Thank you
    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
