Thanks for the info R31 Chick! Might come and have a look on Sunday, but I'm not sure if I want to show off my car yet!! Only got it a couple of weeks ago. Lots of work to do! Still in the process of transferring all the stuff from my smashed R31, fun fun!! Definately interested in future cruises. I think I have been to the R31 Skyline Club page before, I might have to join that too.

Thanks again!

My smashed R31 is sitting in my drive way at home!! Going to get as many parts off it as possible and scrap the wrecked body. Still have my stereo, exhaust and mags on it. Just need the time to transfer it all across. Need to take the dash and instruments out as well, the dash in my new R31 has been trashed. I think someone has taken it out, but forgotten how to put it back together and they have just glued it! Got an alarm put in last weekend, and hopefully will get the windows tinted this weekend. Keep me posted on any events, I'm very keen!!

Thank you again!!

Yeah, and Nate is not the map organiser. WHY you ask? The first one he got lost on his own map, 2nd time, we barely followed the map!

Sorry Nate, your a good president though, even after my comment at the last cruise, hehe!!

i have a stock '86 R31 GXE (first half of '86, so still has square tail lights). i've been seriously considering saving hard for the next five years so i can buy an r34 gtr for around 50-60k in 5 years. Because im only 21 at the moment, insurance is REDICULOUS and obviously r34 gtr's aren't 50-60k yet :O. BUT - Now i'm thinking of sticking with my '31 for a while and maybe sweetening it up a little. it's such a solid car, but it's in that ugly green colour, so i wouldn't mind a respray, maybe some mags and the possibility of looking at some engine mods - i'm just not sure which engine mods would be suitable. has anybody else had a similar idea to me? if so, could you fill in some blanks for me, like what mods are best for the car?

thanks

oohh... i can help ya there!

First up: Take off that filthy thing they call an airbox.. replace with a pod (Costs: Simota or Cheetah R pods are $35 K&N/Jap Pods are near $100ish)

That will loosen up breathing, and give a tad more power.

Then, get extractors, cat back exhaust or something. Advance timing to 20BTDC, and that should get you a low 16 second car...

15" TRX rims are a really good cheap option if you have 14's on there... i paid $100 for my set :O Get some nice tyres, and lower the thing, and that will make for nice handling. Better launch and gear ratios for an auto box would be getting a pintara diff (4.111:1 rather than 3.89:1 or something.. on autos that is)

Mods after that, would be head work, new cam, which would put you into the 15's...

If you have even more cash, there was a Ti at the plex this weekend running STOCK with zorst only, and ran a 14.5!! He's ran it down the plex over 50 times or something with that NOS on it.. :( Its an auto too...

Or u can just go turbo, or put a RB25DE head on it.. the mods are endless :) PM me for more details about cruises etc, or check out r31skylineclub.com for heaps of tech info on the forums, or on the site :)

Just do something, Nate is fulla idea's (if you have a look on the R31 page you will see what I mean) but has done nothing yet!!!

RB30's are good with a RB25 head if ya gonna turbo them for the twin cam, if ya keepin it N/A then I wouldn't bother. After market ECU's (Wolf, Autronic) are good with the right one and the correct install and tuning. Standard air box vs pod doesn't make a hell of a lota difference. We have proved that on our 31 on the dyno. If doing a zorst, make sure if you are leaving it N/A you keep some back pressure, to straight through will only slow it down, not speed it up. Manual box and faster diff gears will pull you almost into a 15, it did with ours, we had a standard everythind else (box was standard 5 speed).

Yea, thats true, i always ending up spending the cash on other rubbish. Now i quit my job, so im sorta stuck with these lame tyres i put on the back, go the drag slick look a likes! Should be able to snatch another job sometime soon :( Looking at doing a STAT test, instead of TEE, so i can work full time for 7 months.. till i get to uni..... mmmm $500pw into my car :O

:P :looney: :box: :chairshot - silly Nate, you can't possibly live on $0! It is physically impossible! What are you going to do when you clothes and shoes fall off, you run outta toothpaste, can't put fuel in this 31 you have off its face, your hairbrush brakes, and you are a skinny rake!!!!??? I think I will have to :box: some sense into ya boy! :)

Summoner, my b/f had an idea not quite as crazy as yours but along the same lines. He wanted to out a stroker motor in the wagon and put the 304 V8 (good for 14.7's in the wagon) into a LH Torana for his work car! Your Torana will be mad!

Insurance on 31's for me (18) would be about $600 so it should be cheaper for you.

    • What an awesome idea to fit the facelift Lamborghini Diablo headlights. They are a perfect fit!
    • An update regarding the registration with the DVLA I sent off the paperwork the day after I collected the car from the port, two weeks later it was all returned with a letter explaining they have rejected the application. This was because the cheque was £20 short for the road tax (I used a price list I found online). Nevermind it is what it is, it was sent back to them the following day with a new cheque. Fast forward another 2 weeks or so, I called them for an update to be told it had been rejected. Yesterday (16th September) I received the documents back along with another letter, this time it was because I didn't put an X in one box on the V750 (personalised number plate certificate), which declared that I had the rights to the personalised number plate. Why this wasn't mentioned in the first rejection letter, I don't know, but it could have saved this headache. The documents were sent back today, so fingers crossed third times a charm and it'll FINALLY be registered on the road just in time for the bad weather (woohoo!) To cheer myself up I lowered the front 25mm, was sick of seeing it sit like a monster truck. No idea how much clearance I'll have getting on and off the driveway, I'll worry about that when I can actually drive it
    • You're going to miss not worrying about rust in the strut towers like the Skyline shitboxes out there
    • A few little updates that weren't filmed due to not taking long to do or not interesting enough for their own video. My new K&N Air Filter arrived, I went with an RU-4180 which matched the dimensions of the universal cone filter the car originally had.  The battery had gone flat, while that was charging I tidied up the spaghetti wiring at the bulk head and down the sides of the engine Next job was to swap the stereo The Kenwood harness had the female ISO plugs cut off and the male ISO plugs cut off the adaptor loom and joined with bullet connectors. I ordered in a repair loom through work and re-did it all. New Kenwood unit installed (Android Auto, DAB, Bluetooth, Reverse Camera) The bonnet/hood gas struts have been poor since collecting the car. I couldn't find any suitable replacements locally so took a chance on a pair from AliExpress.  The originals don't use a retaining clip to secure the cup onto the ball fixture, would explain why I struggled for 10-15mins trying to pry off the cups. The ball fixtures unscrew using a 12mm spanner, new ones are the same size. Sadly no photo of them fitted, you're not missing much lol The dished Momo steering wheel got replaced with my Momo Tuner, turns out I ordered counter sunk bolts for the horn trim ring (like they normally are for the steering wheel) instead of allen cap (flat seat)  A terrible photo of a Quaife style gear shift knob I've had stashed in my tool box for many years after purchasing the incorrect thread size (I can see a pattern emerging with ordering incorrect parts...) Also threw in a cup holder and a (empty) Boss Coffee can, because why not
    • GT-R clearly the better choice! The 300 is certainly not insaly fast but has a decent amount of poke. Does a nice little drift around the corners with a decent amount of throttle. It's VERY predictable in a slide too.  Feels so progressive! People probably presume there's a 25 year old driving it based on my behaviour this week! 🤣
