Hi just wondering if you have any information on r32 ignition some punks stole my black beast but ran out of fuel in the process they stuffed my ignition should i suss it out and attempt fixing myself or take it to a shop where i could be ripped off im not sure on the whole ignition thing so thanks heaps for the other tips they were realy helpfull

Umm yeah be a little more specific, like is it the steering lock assembly, the ignition switch (attached to the back of the steering lock assembly) or is it the ignition cylinder (the part the key goes into).

86-91 R31 Skylines and Pintara

89< R31 Pintara

87-91 N13 Pulsars

83-89 Z31 300ZX (make sure it has the key release push button)

83-87 Y30 Cedric or Gloria (make sure it has the key release push button)

90-93 NA31 Cefiro (i'm pretty sure....make sure it has the key release push button)

89-95 J30 Maxima (some had the same)

87< N13 NX/100NX/EXA (some had the same)

92< K11 Micra (some had the same)

.....you get the picture

These listed used the same steering lock assembly's and ignition cylinders as the r32, that means if you took one out of a r31 or n13 it will bolt straight up to your r32.

Find a R31 or a N13 Pulsar would be your best bet as they're locally built and pretty common.

If you do choose to use any other donar model, the best thing to do is to take yours off and bring it with you to a wrecker.

Go to a wrecker find an old r31 or n13, get the steering lock assembly off(the ignition cylinder should be still inside of it, it'll be one unit), it probably won't have any keys so take it to a locksmith, give them the steering lock assembly and your key for the car (they'll need it to match the second hand ignition to your key). If your existing cylinder still turns ok then bring that with you, they might be able to still use it.

If you've got the original/genuine nissan key for your car then even better. On the original keys they stamped a number, the locksmith can use that number to cut you a set of brand new keys. They'll only suggest to cut new keys are if your original keys are too worn to use......yes ok even though your original key seems to work fine in the locks, it's still worn and you need a new set anyway...believe me.

If you don't have the original keys, just give them what you've got, they'll work it out.

It's definitly not DIY job......but if you just so happen to get keys with it from the wreckers(unlikely) or if you buy genuine you can just unbolt your old one and bolt up the new one, you'll just have to put up with the inconvenience of not having one key for your boot, doors and ignition.

If your going to bolt it up yourself you may have trouble removing the old one and putting on the new one. If you do get to that stage just post up again and I'll help you through it.

Hope thats what your looking for :D

PS- Get an immobilisor

p.s I have the original keys and have a few lads together for the fix

pp.s it's got a loose steering colum and where the key goes into is all pulled apart

Whats your thought on kill switches is that those red keys you see in some cars, what a they like do they stop the theives from doing this again or can they still get around that stuff

If "where the key goes into" is all pulled apart it sounds like the cylinder/barrel is stuffed.

And a loose steering column? Does the whole column move up and down side to side?

When you say kill switches I'm assuming you mean immobiliser's.

The first thing i did when i bought my skyline was get an immobiliser fitted.

Immobilisers can be activated in a few different ways depending on which one you buy.

They can either have a code pad, a remote to activate/deactivate the immobiliser and lock/unlock the central locking, or just a switch hidden in the car.

In all cases the immobiliser when activated, cuts power to the ignition switch or doesn't allow your fuel pump to turn on, so even if you put your key into the igintion and try to turn the car on, it won't start, therefore you can't go anyware.

For a thief unless their really smart in auto electrics and had the time to try and figure out where underneath the dash it was wired up, or they were the one that wired up the immobiliser, they won't be going far.

the steering colum is loose like up and down,is the ignition barrel the whole piece or...

    • For once a good news  It needed to be adjusted by that one nut and it is ok  At least something was easy But thank you very much for help. But a small issue is now(gearbox) that when the car is stationary you can hear "clinking" from gearbox so some of the bearing is 100% not that happy... It goes away once you push clutch so it is 100% gearbox. Just if you know...what that bearing could be? It sounding like "spun bearing" but it is louder.
    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve. 
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
