At around the 8pm mark last night I was driving around to find a good pub for the start of mine & my friend's farewell. Now, the Glenmore (& its rooftop bar) is situated right near the Harbour Bridge Climbing Centre. What I failed to remember is that you shouldn't take an import through The Rocks on a Friday night.

Apon leaving I, of course, got pulled over for a "random breath test" - ie a cop car went past the intersection I was stopped at & waited for me on the side of the road. The obligatory bonnet pop & questions later I was told that my exhaust wasn't legal for the car. The cop said he wasn't going to book me for it due to that fact that I "seemed like a decent guy"...

I consider myself very lucky as not only is exhaust fairly obnoxious, but the rear tyres protrude quite obviously & the boost control sticks out like the dogs bollocks. I think they let me off because I was quite pleasant & chatty with them. The lesson is, I guess, if you not cagey or a smartarse the cops can be very reasonable. Even when they're holding a swadge of yellow stickers.

Not all are assholes...I think i mentioned this story before...I had a pleasant chat with a cop who pulled me over for a random inspection. He was quite suprised that my parents 1988 Camira was in such a good nick...quite a decent fella that cop. But bear in mind, they also have a job to do - so if I was doing something stupid like burning rubber like those guys in the "Probery" thread (the guy with his head and arm out of the calais), I would have expected that same cop to not have a smile but have a ticket made up for me...

half the cops are hoons anyway

I know my mates are, into cars, like a good burnout, they just hate some of the attitude given to them.

If your nice, they will be nice in return - remember - treat people how you want to be treated :woot:

good to see theres some decent guys on here giving cops a go :)

yeah some are alright. once my brother got booked for all of the defects on my car by being a prick, which is 9 in total. then when i got pulled over they didnt really say anything as im pretty chatty to coppers.. believe it or not they only said, "mate did you realise you dont have a light shining on your rear number plate?".. i was pretty stunned when he let me go with a warning for it too.

As he warned me about the exhaust he said along the lines of - just remember we're down here looking at cars like yours.

A friendly warning saying that if you're an import in the Rocks at night you'll most likely get pulled over.

Geez is it really that bad down there...... that sucks.

Latley there been hitting the central coast like that, normally your pritty sweet down here, i mean you get pulled over for a random breath test and they'll only ask you pop the hood if they here a atmos blow of valve.

The worse thing for all us import owners, i followed some old ford doing 50 in an 80zon becuase thats probly all it was capable off, its boot wasn't even held down properly (bouncing around) and probably had 101 other things wrong with it, but peopel can keep driving these shit boxes around and there quicker to pull up and import..........

its unfortunatly due tho the fact that most performance import owners are young hoons like me. :P

us p platers are more likely to break the law compared to a 70 year old man in an old camira with more rust than the titanic, so we get the most attention...

sucks ass really...

Some are pretty cool.

I was shooting a car the other night in a Bunnings carpark. It was pretty late and I guess a couple of modified cars in a deserted car park looks really dodgey.

Anyway, a general duties came and asked what we were doing, the guy was really decent and just said not to stay too long.

Then a highway patrol car came in really fast. Asked us what we were doing, asked who's car was the skyline (LOL), and ended by saying, "well, don't do anything stupid, and if you hear any burnouts or loud cars, it's not me."

Then when leaving he did a couple of doughnuts, and then a big burnout down the road. lol

He seemed like a really good guy.

thats exactly why i dont drive my car on the weekends into the city, less hassle, worry and trouble....

Id rather be at bar333 (on george) yelling at the imports and bogans in my drunken state to do burnouts..... done it before with a group of people and we got some good smoke shows :O

last night i got into a bit of trouble.

came out of a servo sideways in my m3. hit 2nd and i was still going sideways till i got into 3rd when i started to let off. i got to a set of lights when a highway patrol came next to me and told me to pull over, so i did. she took my license, had a look at my record (ive been suspended for racing and doing 45 and over, 8 or so seperate speeding tickets as well as negligent driving, ive been suspended 5 times for a total duration of around 2yrs).

she came back and said "give me 1 good reason why i shouldnt give you a fine". i started saying i was sorry and that i hadnt had my car on the road so i was taking out my frustrations on the car i was driving. she mentioned that 2 nights ago i had been talked to about my r33 and how i got an EPA notice. i explained to her that i had no compression on #1 so it was sounding really shit and loud.

she was understanding so she let me off saying how dangerous it is to drive like that and i was lucky i didnt hit anyone.

ive just gone and bought a lotto ticket.

I normally wouldn't be driving in that area but I had a few venues to check out in different suburbs so the car was the simple answer.

I basically forgot about the Police presence at The Rocks until they drove past me...

    • I certainly fall into the annoyed camp, but glad to hear that if it's happening at low boost then I'm not likely going to blow a turbo and end up with metal shards in my oil. Just feels like it prevents me from really driving it without hesitation and "peak" performance. Wonder if it's the VCAM, it did an impressive job of shifting the torque curve and faster spool, but maybe now it's "too fast" and there's too much air for how open the throttle is.  Based on some other threads, will also do some reading on synchronizing the actuators. They are the default actuators that come on the Garrett's and I would think they would be set the same coming from the factory, but if the turbos don't actually work exactly the same way at the same time as previously mentioned, it would be worth making sure the actuators are actuating together properly
    • I went down this rabbit hole before, ended up sourcing a motor from the UK (I'm in Japan) which also didn't function correctly. With the original motor, I disassembled it and reassembled it and it works somewhat, sometimes. What I could deduce from all my screwing around is that there is calibration of the gears on the inside of the motor and two ramps on the main gear which activate switches that operate the motor and move the sunroof either to retract into the roof or tilt. Where I got stuck was that, it seemed in my case that one or both of the switches that are activated by the ramp on the gear did not always activate and thus the motor did not move, causing it to sometimes not retract or tilt (apologies, I've forgotten which way it didn't work.).  Of course this part is discontinued at Nissan now, it's the same part in the S15 but no other models. I also contacted the manufacturer of the component for schematics - forgot the name, they're based in Gifu - but they declined to share the information due to being bound by an NDA, sadly. Looking through my pictures now, it seems I last had a crack at this in 2022. See, I so kindly wrote "open" and "close" next to the switches. If you figure it out, please do tell me. Those little switches, with the red buttons may need to be replaced.
    • It says 300ZX, does that make it an Aus delivered car? Funny how back in the day I just couldn't care less about Z32's and these days I am just in love with them. Back when Nissan was into pushing the envelope. 🤣
    • Hi guys, just after some guidance with an R34 sunroof that has stopped working correctly. It still opens and closes perfectly fine, but it no longer tilts/vents up or down. As a result, the rear of the glass now sags a bit as it drops down slightly in order to retract into the roof, but now it can't pop upwards into a flush position. I’ve probed the pins on the back of the switch connector with a multimeter and it seems like both switches (for open/close and tilt/vent) still work correctly. Any ideas on what it could be, or where I should even start in terms of diagnosing? I'm sure someone's had this issue before but I haven't been able to find anything online relating to this specific issue, most of the issues are with the seals leaking or the motor failing entirely. Thanks in advance!
