Launching is an art - their is more to it then how wide your tyres are or what brand of rubber they are.

Track prep, track temperature, clutch type, tyre compound, tyre pressure, horsepower, rpm etc all influence your launch.

On a side note I have a pair of unused 300ZX rims with very very warn Nitto NT555R rubber (255's) sitting in my garage if someone wants to throw some mulla my way >_<

Hey benm. Are the 300ZX rims slightly different in appreance to the

standard R33 rims or the same. Also what are the sizes of both?

Im only able to squeeze 225/50/16 on mine which i believe is the

max for the standard rims. What is the max size you can run on the

300ZX rims. What price are you after for the two you have.

R33 is 16x6.5" + 40

Z32 is 16x7.5" + 45

In other words, you are going to want to make sure that you have plenty of room on the inside of the wheels, so it dosen't foul suspension bits. However you could use spacers.

7.5" should be able to fit up to 245.

Thanks for that. Does anyone know if these look the same or not.

Also anyone running these on an R33 with wide arse rubber, do you

need spacers or not. :)

The Z32 + Nitto's fit just fine (these particular wheels+tyres have been on 3 different r33 gtst's)

Im just so frustrated not being able to launch without wheelspin. Currently using

Hankook Ventus V8 RS 225/50/16 with 192RWKW. First gear is now useless.

Is it possible to get a tyre this size not to wheel spin at all with this power?

If so what sort? Happy to spend $$ as i know the Hankook's are on the cheaper side. :)

Street Legal - but I wouldnt drive them on the street, the police would be all over your ass, you'd cut them up on potholes, they'd offer zero grip in the wet and you'd wear them out in a month.

Ok. So which street usable tyre should i go for. Maybe Yokohama advan?

This is the question i asked the tyre dealer. Can i get grip. I want straight

line grip. Oh yeah try these new design Hankook Ventus. Yeah! no worries.

Sick of ringing around tyre places just to have them try and sell you what they

stock. And everyone says buy something different. I just want grip and buy

the right tyres the first time! :)

one thing you also have to take into account is that once you get moving and have full traction, a wider tyre is slower than a skinnier tyre. that is why drag cars have skinny front tyres (as well as saving wieght). the rolling resistance of a wider tyre is greater.

Nitto's are perfectly okay for the street and handle lateral movement (turning) very very well.

They don't wear out super quick either. I had my 275x40x17" NT555R's on for months and months of street driving and racing.

MT Drag Radials are a different story though. They wear out pretty bloody quick but who cares... That's what tyres do.

Hi Adrian. I was looking at the Toyo RA1's which Robo suggested. Would the Nitto's

compared to these in wearing out be roughly the same? Also i was quoted $305 for the RA1's

in a 225/50/16. Sounds pricey but if it's going to do the job why not. This was from

a Tyrepower store. Any other suggestions on where to get the RA1's as a few places

said they could not get them due to the fact that they are a comp tyre more than

for road use.

    • It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about. Reliability of everything in a 34 drops MASSIVELY above the 300kw mark. Keeping everything going great at beyond that value will cost ten times the $. Clutches become shit, gearboxes (and engines/bottom ends) become consumable, traction becomes crap. The good news is looking legalish/actually being legal is slighly under the 300kw mark. I would make the assumption you want to ditch the stock plenum too and want to go a front facing unit of some description due to the cross flow. Do the bends on a return flow hurt? Not really. A couple of bends do make a difference but not nearly as much in a forced induction situation. Add 1psi of boost to overcome it. Nobody has ever gone and done a track session monitoring IAT then done a different session on a different intercooler and monitored IAT to see the difference here. All of the benefits here are likely in the "My engine is a forged consumable that I drive once a year because it needs a rebuild every year which takes 9 months of the year to complete" territory. It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about with this car.
    • By "reverse flow", do you mean "return flow"? Being the IC having a return pipe back behind the bumper reo, or similar? If so... I am currently making ~250 rwkW on a Neo at ~17-18 psi. With a return flow. There's nothing to indicate that it is costing me a lot of power at this level, and I would be surprised if I could not push it harder. True, I have not measured pressure drop across it or IAT changes, but the car does not seem upset about it in any way. I won't be bothering to look into it unless it starts giving trouble or doesn't respond to boost increases when I next put it on the dyno. FWIW, it was tuned with the boost controller off, so achieving ~15-16 psi on the wastegate spring alone, and it is noticeably quicker with the boost controller on and yielding a couple of extra pounds. Hence why I think it is doing OK. So, no, I would not arbitrarily say that return flows are restrictive. Yes, they are certainly restrictive if you're aiming for higher power levels. But I also think that the happy place for a street car is <300 rwkW anyway, so I'm not going to be aiming for power levels that would require me to change the inlet pipework. My car looks very stock, even though everything is different. The turbo and inlet pipes all look stock and run in the stock locations, The airbox looks stock (apart from the inlet being opened up). The turbo looks stock, because it's in the stock location, is the stock housings and can't really be seen anyway. It makes enough power to be good to drive, but won't raise eyebrows if I ever f**k up enough for the cops to lift the bonnet.
    • There is a guy who said he can weld me piping without having to cut chassis, maybe I do that ? Or do I just go reverse flow but isn’t reverse flow very limited once again? 
    • I haven’t yet cut the chassis, maybe I switch to a reverse flow. I’ve got the Intercooler mounted as I already had it but not cut yet. Might have to speak to an engineer
