I have put this in the for sale section as well but I thought I would try the targeted approach by posting in the classics section as well:

Looking for a fairly low km DR30 turbo 2 door in immaculate condition. Mild mods ok but the more original the better.

Would prefer iron mask front, although will consider a mint non iron mask. No particular colour preference although I am not interested in non factory colours.

Given the hassle of shipping, RTA inspections etc I would prefer a NSW regoed car.

I know I am demanding but if your car fits the criteria and you were tossing up about selling, here is your chance. PM me with your details.

cheers

I have a silver 84 model Iron Mask DR30RS with Volk 16x7 and 16x8 wheels . Is straight clean and runs all the original Nissan engine (inc electrics) gearbox and diff . Mods aside from wheels are some sort of Japanese cat back exhaust and Bilstein dampers . It also has a very comfortable Japanese aftermarket drivers seat . The only thing you may not like about it is its three button sprung centre clutch .

Has been in HPI while in the hands of its former owner (B.E) .

When I get a chance I'll get it out (lives in garage 99.9% of the time) and take some pics .

Cheers A .

Sounds pretty good. It will definitely not be a daily driver so I can probably live with the clutch. Look forward to the pics. Do you have the original drivers seat?

Did you buy that car?????????

I have pics of it somewhere when he had it at the Oran Park round of the Drift Nationals a few years back.

It was parked in the carpark when I noticed it. Looked like a very clean example.

I think its around 105 000 , we reckon its original as the factory clutch was replaced about 16 months ago . The interior is very good for a car of its age . Will try to scan the article later or this evening . Its a little dusty so needs a wash before pics to do it justise . Time is my big issue .

Cheers A .

No rush. Whenever you get the chance. My tax return will be funding the purchase anyway. The scanned article will give me a good idea anyway as it sounds like the car has had very mods and little use since B.E's ownership.

Sorry but a couple of more questions I just thought of:

Air con? if so, working ok?

Power windows and/or mirrors? not sure if this model had them or not

Rego till?

All import documentation including engineers certificate for side intrusion bars etc?

Any finance owing on vehicle?

Apart from the clutch change any other repairs in the last couple of years?

Window rubbers ok?

A/C yes doesn't blow cold , Pwr windows no , mirrors yes , will check rego in the morning . Certification sticker on inside of bonnet . Replaced front pads (Jap aftermarket ones hard as rocks and don't work cold) , replaced front tyres (Yokahama C Drive) , fitted SWR adjustable caster rods and height adjustable front struts with HDT rate Bilstein inserts . Already had camber adjustable strut tops ex Japan . New battery about 5 months ago as Jap Panasonic one died . Fitted rear Bilstein dampers , fitted Noltec idler arm bushes as new std are useless - actually whole idler assembly changed except arm because its not a wearing part and not easy to remove . Fitted second hand heat shield because it was missing . Window seals good . Modified top tensioner and spacers .

Cheers .

  • 1 month later...
Bought Adrian's (Discopotato03) DR30. Its all good :D No longer looking.

cheers

That's great! as I said earlier, that car is one of the best R30 coupes I have seen and one day I will find the pics I took of it at Oran Park.

Other than my PNV it would be the best example I have seen on the road.

Just hope it stays that way and you keep the flag flying for this now! slowly deminishing marque.

It really is a pity that technology and the lust for more power has taken it's toll on these great cars.

Prior to the R32 being sold in Oz in GTR form, it was considered through motoring circles that the R30 was the best Skyline ever to come to our shores and if not for a few technical hitches, the DR in PJR trim would have held it's place in our motor racing history as an ATCC Championship winning car, as does the HR31 GTS/R & BNR32 GTR.

Cheers, D

It will be babied and I am going to show it at the Skyline Nationals next year. It needs a tidy up in a couple of places (trim mainly) but otherwise it is good as you could find. My wife has ordered me DR30XX plates for fathers day so look out for it on the road on a sunny Sunday....

I have something you might want to borrow, if your going to show it, can't have but loan maybe, if I'm there as well.

It's no longer available from Jenesis, but it's a white woolen rug with the R/S logo in the middle.

I have been tempted to make one here with G/T logo for the PNV.

Sounds good Dennis. We can put the 2 R30's side by side at the next Skyline nationals. Thanks.

My big challenge is now hunting down some missing bits from the car (rear wiper motor and arm included) and tidying up some unsympathetic modifcations down in Japan (bodgy boost gauge, rear parcel shelf stuffed up from big box speakers etc).

I have already located some of the other missing bits though and in the next 12 months (no money at the mo for expensive retrims). I will need to hunt down 2 matching seats for the front (the seats currently dont match) and then probably get the interior retrimmed to make sure it all matches and the sun damage on the top of the rear seats is corrected. I will have to get to work on the boot area as well as it is a bit of a mess as well. All good fun.

Cant believe the stares you get on the road. People just have no idea what the hell the car is! However, I have already been "challenged" to a traffic light race by a FPV GT...I just let him go. My street racing days are long over. He would have beat me anyway but no need to admit to that. :D

The DR30 is an excellent choice for you classic Skyline purchase. You will find that a lot of the Australian delivered R30 parts are interchangeable, so the rear wiper arm and motor might be easier to find than you think.

As for the front seats, when I owned my DR30, I replaced the seats with a set of R34 GTT front seats and had the front and rear retrimmed to match. They were a relatively easy fit and in one afternoon, I had modified the original R34 rails to suit the R30 floor pan.

Because they are such an aged car, I had to do the same tidy up routine as you will and build a new parcel tray and re-carpet and clean up the boot area.

Good luck with the new ownership and happy Skylining!

    • As far as I can tell I have everything properly set in the Haltech software for engine size, injector data, all sensors seem to be reporting proper numbers.  If I change any injector details it doesnt run right.    Changing the base map is having the biggest change in response, im not sure how people are saying it doesnt really matter.  I'm guessing under normal conditions the ECU is able to self adjust and keep everything smooth.   Right now my best performance is happening by lowering the base map just enough to where the ECU us doing short term cut of about 45% to reach the target Lambda of 14.7.  That way when I start putting load on it still has high enough fuel map to not be so lean.  After 2500 rpm I raised the base map to what would be really rich at no load, but still helps with the lean spots on load.  I figure I don't have much reason to be above 2500rpm with no load.  When watching other videos it seems their target is reached much faster than mine.  Mine takes forever to adjust and reach the target. My next few days will be spent making sure timing is good, it was running fine before doing the ECU and DBW swap, but want to verify.  I'll also probably swap in the new injectors I bought as well as a walbro 255 pump.
    • It would be different if the sealant hadn't started to peel up with gaps in the glue about ~6cm and bigger in some areas. I would much prefer not having to do the work take them off the car . However, the filler the owner put in the roof rack mount cavities has shrunk and begun to crack on the rail delete panels. I cant trust that to hold off moisture ingress especially where I live. Not only that but I have faded paint on as well as on either side of these panels, so they would need to come off to give the roofline a proper respray. My goal is to get in there and put a healthy amount of epoxy instead of panel filler/bog and potentially skin with carbon fiber. I have 2 spare rolls from an old motorcycle fairing project from a few years back and I think it'd be a nice touch on a black stag.  I've seen some threads where people replace their roof rack delete with a welded in sheet metal part. But has anyone re-worked the roof rails themselves? It seems like there is a lot of volume there to add in some threads and maybe a keyway for a quick(er) release roof rack system. Not afraid to mill something out if I have to. It would be cool to have a cross bar only setup. That way I can keep the sleek roofline that would accept a couple bolts to gain back that extra utility  3D print some snazzy covers to hide the threaded section to be thorough and keep things covered when not using the rack.
    • Probably not. A workshop grade scantool is my go to for proper Consult interrogation. Any workshop grade tool should do it. Just go to a workshop.
    • In my head it does make sense to be a fuel problem since that is what I touched when cleaning the system. When I was testing with the fuel pressure gauge, the pressure was constantly 2.5 bar with the FPR vacuum removed. When stalling, the pressure was going up to 3.0 bar (which is how it should be on ignition).
    • ECUtalk pages don't mention they support the ABS computer (consult port has more than one CAN), so you might just need a different scan tool. But, I would expect ABS is a different light to the brake warning/handbrake light, do you see an ABS light come on for a few seconds when you turn the key from ACC to IGN? But since you said: I'd have a look at the ABS sensors in the rear hubs to make sure they are not damaged, disconnected etc.
