Start Up Power Problem

heyy fellow liners

having a lil issue with power options when starting car.

Car starts up, but steering is very heavy and jitters, then once reved to 2 - 3000 the steering is normal and works fine.

another eg

at night, start car, turn lights on and they are very dimm, then revved 2 - 3000 and the lights get brighter on dash and also headlights.

battery was put in due to previous one dying, was purchased from kmart, not too sure on specs.

anyone have any ideas???

Last time I had a problem anywhere like that, I think it was a dead diode in the alternator.

Basically, it's taking 2-3000 rpm to generate enough current / voltage to "switch" one of the output diodes. Before that, everything is running off the battery, and Skylines are extremely susceptible to low voltages.
