there's a difference between a layer of carbon fibre (most bonnets n stuff for looks in a car) and composite honeycomb carbon fibre used in masts and other spaceframes like bikes etc.

i think in the case of a carbon fibre layr on top of the alloy its just for looks.

ok, i know this post is kinda cold now, but its sticky, so i thought i couold get away with re-opening it...

just a quick question about some older model skylines... pre R30 etc. One of my mates just picked up a '78 line with a 2.8 Turbo EFI motor in it. The body is in really good nik, and for 1200 bucks its heaps of fun  (not to mention fast) but i was just wondering if anyone had any pics of some tidy examples of the same cars so we could see where to go with this one. Was also wondering if some of you real buffs out there knew what the original engine was, coz im fairly sure it wasn't an L28ET !

cheers guys

that would be the GC211 or KPGC211

The C211 series was released in August 1977 and, just like the C110 series, came in four versions. First of all, due to the fuel crisis and emissions regulations, the GT-R was missing and instead the Skyline 2000GT-ES (KGC211) marked the top-of-the-line now.

The latter came out in April 1980 and featured a new turbo-version of the L20, called the L20ET, with 140hp. This engine might have been less powerful than the GT-Rs, but in contrast to the S20, obeyed to emissions regulations and marked a new milestone in Skyline history: For the first time a turbo engine powered a Skyline.

The basic versions were called 1600TI and 1800TI now and featured L16 and L18 engines respectively, instead of the preceding "G" engines. The old 2000GT-X lost the X (and was now called the 2000GT), but kept an unchanged L20 engine, which still pumped out 130hp.

Basically the site has a huge DIY GC211 restoration section etc... use http://babelfish.altavista.com to translate it.

I'm not really a big fan of the GC211 more of the KPGC110... which is very remeniscant of a shelby mustang (aka elanor)

oh and if you bought a locally sold C210 this page has some info on it...

but you need to change the tail lights to jap spec man...

thanks for the info guys !

the car is a fully imported 4 door model - still can't work out what the exact model is, coz it's missing the bumper (not a bad thing though, the big black one looks kinda weird...

ill let ya know how it turns out.

if you PM me the VIN number I can put it thru the Nissan Japan database n get you details on the car from production factory to cloth trim... I dunno if the software goes that far back though, but it couldn't hurt.

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
