Just asking what is wrong with my tacho in the dash to the one on my shift light tacho, shift light tacho should be the right one because it is connected to the ECU. the tacho on my dash is showing revs that higher then the one on my shift light tacho. any idea what is wrong??

thanks

They are both connected to the ECU.

The tacho is simply a meter. Meters have errors. Different meters have different errors.

The rpm shown on the display of my Wolf is different to (less then) the actual tacho. And the Wolf reading is more likely to be correct, as it doesn't need to convert to an analogue signal and drive a mechanical indicator.

as both have said above, if it is only small, a few hundred rpm, then it'll be error in 1 of them (more than likely the stock one being over 10 years old) if it is a bigger difference then i'd check it is set for 6 cylinder.

although when i think about it, if it is only the signal from the ecu to the tacho then it wouldn't change whether it was a 4, 6, or 8 as the ecu has already translated it and is just telling the tacho what to show. so i'd say unless it is a big difference then its just error.

if your stock tacho reads 2000rpm and the other 1 reads 1500rpm then its setup for a v8 and if it reads 3000 then its set for a 4 cylinder.
