Dont bother. Go to a mechanic that knows something about imports. I had an RACV inspection done on my car before i bought it and when i got the results back i also wanted my money back. They thought the pod was a bov. Enuff said.

wouldnt go with racv. i got one a few months ago. cant find it at the moment or id post up what was in it. Really obvious things like non standard wheels non standard exhaust, strut brace etc. its got a massive chunk out of the side skirt so that was obvious damage that they put in the report. I asked about compression tests they said yeah checked out fine but they dont have any results on the report. said nothing about turbo gear box or engine. the only helpful information that was on there was that my rear rotors are only 1mm above the required thickness and that they need to be change next time i change my pads. i have a chrome gear knob they also put that down as non standard, idiots. basically told me everything i already knew and nothing that i wanted to know.

thats just my experience anyway

I didn't bother with RACV, I had a VACC acredited place do the last car (couple of weeks ago). Went to a Repco branded place (Cox Automotive, South Melb), that did a much more thorough check, had wheels off etc to check discs/pads, I'm not sure the RACV would have spotted that the steering rack bushes needed replacing.

I had an R32 gtst inspected by RACV at their Prahan workshop. I thought it was well worth it and that they did a good job. Found some stuff that I wouldnt have known to look for and in the end it stopped me from buying an absolute shocker!

The car looked really good on the outside and drove well but had been in a major accident, had dints everywhere under the car and had been resprayed with some rust showing through and compression some not very good either appartently.

I didnt know anyone who owned a workshop or anything so it was very good for me.

I also had a car inspected in NSW by NRMA who did a good job too. I wouldnt underrate the mainstream inspection services, theyre pretty good.

grr dealer said car will be at workshop today, just called and he said it's still at docks. Not happy at all, considering I booked pre-inspection and was prepared.

Dealer now says Friday...

Does anyone know if Racingline, UPI or ICE are open saturday/sunday?

May plan pre-inspection then but dont want to call and waste their time as car isnt confirmed to arrive on Fri...

Cant find any workshops close to Campbellfield so at least I'll have a long test drive.

Are u talkign about Gibs Imports in CAMPBELLFIELD?

Man have i had troubles with them XD

jsut make sure u get everything tested twice cuz :>

Prior to buying my GTS4 for $35K (1997)

I had it RACV checked and was told the Auto was on the way out which was not apparent to me or the dealer.

The dealer volunteered the check!!

The dealer paid the $2500 to get it completely repaired so I bought the car and have not regreted it.

Was five years later it failed again from a broken main band so I had his moneys worth out of it at least. >_<

Moral is get it checked by SOMEBODY QUALIFIED at least.!

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
