Firstly... Insurance.. Family car = cheap insurance.

Turbo = No insurance at your age or half of your $300pw award wage.

I had a VS V8 5 Speed with an exhaust lowered, Sherbrook Green, Tint, VR GTS 16" Mags at 19.

I thought it was the bees knees.

Sure it looked nice, nicer than the skyline I still think but the Skyline is just so much nicer to drive and so much more reliable.

It pulls away from 255 LS1 Manual Maloo Utes and also pulls away from 255LS1 Clubsports. So i'm happy with that.. It will do for Transportation to Uni.

I sold the commodore Because:

Bolt on mods were in excess of $7000 for a shitty 180-200rwkw + no insurance cover.

Stock it made 140rwkw. Pitty a cam and chip would only bring it up to 160rwkw. that was $1200 for the cam + chip.

OR... for 180rwkw I could have had a Roller cam and lifters fitted. That would have cost $5000 though.

Then sh*t stared breaking.. First within 3 months the IRS Rear Crossmember snapped where it held the diff. Arse end on the ground.

Then the Gearbox spat it and started poping out of all gears and rattled like hell.

Then the Diff started making a really loud grinding and felt like a locker.

Not a strong car at all.

Don't waste to much money on insurance.. Buy a Commodore.. Chicks at your age luv em.

Oh one more thing..

Buy a white hat slap it on backwards, adjust your seat so that you are looking at the roof and drive around with your right arm on top of the steering wheel, left shoulder down and leaning to the left a little... lol...

Don't forget the sub also.

Hey mate,

yep just got the GTR, but its not registered yet!! :)

Still waiting on the compliance plate, so I havent really taken it for a proper spin, only on the way home from melb.

But from what ive experienced in it, it is bloody quick, and handles like a dream.

Ill hafta come back down to adelaide soon and catch up with you guys.

hehe yer. You'll have to catch me when I've got some $$ I only get $310 p/f on Youth Allowance. Still waiting for my payment since i've lodged my form for the year.

Apparently there is a back log.. I've been waiting 4 weeks now.

I ask them whats going on and they shrug me off saying its out of their hands now and in the hands of the Student section or something.. Basically I just have to wait.

When I get out of Uni as a project i'd love to get a nice 32 GTR, turn it in to a 600bhp monster. Have the od track day here and there and buy a RS4 300kw 4wd Moster Audi Wagon.

So many dreams.........

So this R32.. What mods came with it?

You and me both! Im on youth allowance for the moment too. Well ive only been on it for 2 weeks, coz im going back to my job in marketing next week.

My R32 has got a full full exhaust (minus dumps), k&n panel filter, cam gears, boost up, and R34 GTR turbos.

Its got 240rwkw.

Stock ECU and intercooler.

Maybe you better send me a PM back so we dont hijack this thread. :)

the s2000? honda make pretty awesome engines.

in regards to the skyline impersonating hondas and riced up cars in general, i used to think those guys were such losers. but some friends pointed out to me that they probably have respect for us fortunate enough to be able to drive skylines.

when you drive up they are probably thinking "nice car", not "i have a better car than him, really i do, yeah i do! *rev* *rev*" and it's pretty bad to throw it in their face and think "loser". plus if hondas are trying to look like skylines it's flattering.

that is my 2 philosophical cents.

After Honda pulled out I discovered the GTR and Bathurst. Haven't looked back since.

Integra Type R and NSX are the only ones worth mentioning. Rest are like sleeping pills.

Good point Timmy,

But in all honestly its not the Honda's in Australia that are riced up.

Who can say Hyundai or Lancer.

The 4wd Turbo Lancer is a different story. I've only ever seen 2 of those driving around and one of them I see regulary which is an old bloke.

Hahaha Rice Boys :P

99% of skylines are no where near as rice as most of the civic/integra wannabe hardcore racers :(

IMHO - Honda make very good cars, with strong engines that produce respectable amounts of power without using turbos. They are well designed, well engineered and reliable, as are most Japanese cars.:D:(:P Unfortunately, they're also subjected to a lot more ricey mods than most, and I think this tends to give a lot of people a negative impression.

I previously owned a Honda. Damn good car, but I prefer my skyline!:D;):D

    • For these last 7 years of ownership, I've always had to use a small scissor jack under one of the front tow hooks to raise the front just enough so my low-profile jack fits under to reach my subframe jack point. I'm beginning to get annoyed of always having to do this. Are there any lower low-profile jacks that fit under the gtr lip on a dropped car?
    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
