does the rb25 afm keep reading past the point where rich/retard mode would normally kick in on a stock ecu? or is that where the afm is at max voltage?

i know that you can change afms, but i am just curious as to whether the stock afm keeps reading past where the stock ecu normally cuts out.

i think its a ramp based scale where it decides to turn on rich and retard, i dont think its a flat 4.01v or higher trigger

what do you mean? i thought it would be a flat figure. when i did my turbo to cat exhaust it lowered the boost pressure i could run before it kicked in.

and what sort of max power have people gotten from the stock afm? this would give a slight indication as to what sort of airflow it will take before it maxes out. (and this is where i want a max power figure, not a lecture about average power).

5 volts is the max voltage though, correct?

5100mv is the absolute max. you can keep making more power but you run out of load points. as once you top 5100mv the load axis will never increase anymore. you could in theory make upwards of 260rwkw on the stock afm but youll find once you go past near 4800rpm its probably going to flatline across the load axis, djetro style.

the rule of thumb is no nore than 250rwkw, but its not like you can't make 260rwkw with it, or 270rwkw and so on, its simply that a rule of thumb for nice tuning.

i see mine max out frequently at 190rwkw on the stock afm, but at like 5500rpm

250rwkw will certainly work, youll just have less load points to play with

The ECU is looking for excess airflow compared to the engine rpm, so it moves to R&R mapping when that occurs. Could be at 4 volts or 4.3 volts, its rpm dependant.

:D cheers :P

What your describing is the TTP limit (airflow limit fuel cut) this is how alot of japanese ecu's work. They compare the g/s of ariflow vs rpm to a set maximum if it's above this then it cuts the injectors. There is only two fuel and two ignition maps for hi and low octane no others (apart form idle timing and a few others), so there is no such specific R&R map its just the overfuelled and retarded section of the ignition or fuel map.

that what it feels like. because i find it kicks straight back in and pulls just as hard. if i'm in a low gear when it did it then it would wheelspin when it kicked back in.

Hence why we use the term R(ich) and R(etarded) mapping.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
