hi there

i'm looking into getting a TD06 20G 8cm for my cefiro - it has a 2.4 RB20 motor in it. currently have a hks 2530 on the car.

I'm after info with people running the TD06 on a rb25 and also rb20 to see if it is suited for my application... supporting mods are - gtr injectors / z32 afm / power fc / full zorst no mufflers/cat with screamer / fmic / fuel pump / pod / bov etc...

this turbo is also internal gate.

PLEASE HELP!

also if i get a good response i may have a hks 2530 for sale located in SA.

heheh just look for another turbo kit, had trouble with the internal gate, it just doesnt work, you will have to custom fit an external gate and blah blah, basically spend $$$$ to achieve anything. cost me 3k to get it working properly

get a 2535 or go garret unless u like the noisy wastegates

i've been speaking to a couple people and some have actually said that it may be more responsive than the 2530?

it feels more responsive than the 2530 on normal driving but it depends on what gear youre on, normally had to drop it into second when a 2530 fitted car would only need third to boost up eg when the traffic lights go amber at 60km/h and we cbf stopping :devil:

If you fit an oil cooler i doubt you'll have problems with the engine temperature (assuming your cooling system is in good nick atm).

I think a TD06 with small rear housing on the rb24 will be a bit of a ball tearer to be honest. Obviously less responsive than a 2530 size turbo but not too far behind and a fair bit more top end. I have seen internal gate td05's perform fine so i don't see how the internal gate 6 will have problems.

If you could get your hands on a used 2535 it could be ok . Or since you have the T3 flanged HKS exhaust housing you could buy a Garrett GT2871R in 48 compressor trim - minus the exhaust housing and fit it in your existing HKS exhaust housing . Assuming your 2530 is a Skyline specific one it has the TO4B compressor cover like Garretts GT2871R series uses so externally it would look the same and use the same water/oil/exhaust plumbing and waste gate actuator . The only difference may be the comp cover inlet boss being 3" or 76mm where the HKS 2530 probably had this bit machined off and an adapter bolted on . You could either get this boss turned down in a lathe or use some kind of step down in the inlet plumbing depending on what you car has .

Just in case you didn't know the 2530 and 2535 and all GT2871R series plus a few others use the same identical turbine and bearing housing so the HKS exhaust housing goes bolt . Done the above mentioned way you wind up with virtually a HKS GT-RS but in 48 comp trim instead of 52 trim (better when boost threshold is an issue eg Cu in starved RB20) and without HKS's custom port shrouded comp cover . The 48 trim compressor is less likely to surge than the 52 trim GT-RS but you could get the 2871R's comp cover drilled and slotted so the port shrouding worked TO4Z style if required .

So if you play your cards right this could be a very cost effective upgrade with what is really a brand newin .

They arent a bad turbo, though as someone else suggested the internal wastegate versions do not seem to enjoy the success of the external gate types. I think thats mostly due to the exhaust housing design and subsequent dump pipe the internal gate version has to run.

Here is an external gate version on a completely std RB20.

well i've made 236 previously with stock rb20 / fmic / zorst / 1.3 bar / hks fcd / stock ecu and injectors...

not going to kill myself if i dont get 240 hehe... just a goal. be happier with insane midrange/lower than peak power atm.

    • The rain is the best time to push to the edge of the grip limit. Water lubrication reduces the consumption of rubber without reducing the fun. I take pleasure in driving around the outside of numpties in Audis, WRXs, BRZs, etc, because they get all worried in the wet. They warm up faster than the engine oil does.
    • When they're dead cold, and in the wet, they're not very fun. RE003 are alright, they do harden very quickly and turn into literally $50 Pace tyres.
    • Yeah, I thought that Reedy's video was quite good because he compared old and new (as in, well used and quite new) AD09s, with what is generally considered to be the fast Yokohama in this category (ie, sporty road/track tyres) and a tyre that people might be able to use to extend the comparo out into the space of more expensive European tyres, being the Cup 2. No-one would ever agree that the Cup 2 is a poor tyre - many would suggest that it is close to the very top of the category. And, for them all to come out so close to each other, and for the cheaper tyre in the test to do so well against the others, in some cases being even faster, shows that (good, non-linglong) tyres are reaching a plateau in terms of how good they can get, and they're all sitting on that same plateau. Anyway, on the AD08R, AD09, RS4 that I've had on the car in recent years, I've never had a problem in the cold and wet. SA gets down to 0-10°C in winter. Not so often, but it was only 4°C when I got in the car this morning. Once the tyres are warm (ie, after about 2km), you can start to lay into them. I've never aquaplaned or suffered serious off-corner understeer or anything like that in the wet, that I would not have expected to happen with a more normal tyre. I had some RE003s, and they were shit in the dry, shit in the wet, shit everywhere. I would rate the RS4 and AD0x as being more trustworthy in the wet, once the rubber is warm. Bridgestone should be ashamed of the RE003.
    • This is why I gave the disclaimer about how I drive in the wet which I feel is pretty important. I have heard people think RS4's are horrible in the rain, but I have this feeling they must be driving (or attempting to drive) anywhere close to the grip limit. I legitimately drive at the speed limit/below speed the limit 100% of the time in the rain. More than happy to just commute along at 50kmh behind a train of cars in 5th gear etc. I do agree with you with regards to the temp and the 'quality' of the tyre Dose. Most UHP tyres aren't even up to temperature on the road anyway, even when going mad initial D canyon carving. It would be interesting to see a not-up-to-temp UHP tyre compared against a mere... normal...HP tyre at these temperatures. I don't think you're (or me in this case) is actually picking up grip with an RS4/AD09 on the road relative to something like a RE003 because the RS4/AD09 is not up to temp and the RE003 is closer to it's optimal operating window.
    • Either the bearing has been installed backwards OR the gearbox input shaft bearing is loosey goosey.   When in doubt, just put in a Samsonas in.
