My understanding is that the second you pay the excess you are admitting fault or you are taking responsibility for the accident and the damages incurred...

Id be very very clean to them in the morning about asking the right questions like "Wwy your paying the excess" and "When you will be getting the excess refunded???"

I would use those words and ask for confirmation in writing and write down the names of the people you are speaking to in the call centres...

Thanks for the advice, that is a VERY VERY good point. Will document all conversations with them tomorow and make sure everything is clear cut. Will cover my rear end as best I can. I do not want to admit liability as it was from no fault of my own. I obviously am a bit of a newbie at dealing with insurance so any other advice you recommend keep it coming. It is getting noted!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Insurance company still making us pay upfront for the car. However I have confirmation that they will go after offending party for full value of the repairs including our excess. I have it in writing so all should be ok

So once that has happened you will get your excess back???

Have they set a dead line to conduct this???

Which insurance company is it???

I called RACQ which does my S15 and they said there would be no charge at all if i hit a dog and i got the owners info. They said that the car would be repaired asap and they would go after the owners for the total claim not just the excess...

Justcar on the other hand who does my r33 said that they would charge the $350 excess and then refund would take place within 30 days of payment and the car would be repaired asap...

I just check with a friend in the insurance industry.

He said it’s common for the owner of the vehicle to pay the excess. IF they recover the cost from the owner of the dog, they will refund the $$

BUT, if you kick up a fuss about paying the excess, they MAY be slow to organise the repairs… always the way!

He said different companies will handle it in different ways – as Col stated above.

Good luck!!

The insurance company is Suncorp, cant complain about their service as of yet as the car was tended to promptly and will be given back later today.

They will reimburse the excess when they retrieve the money from the other party involved. No set time limit that they told me but will look into that as well!!

Thanks guys

    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
