hey guys, been a while, but we have a meeting here in whyalla on the 23 september i think, only about three and half hour drive, its not a bad track, only 1/8 off a track tho i think, some of you may know the track, could find out info if anyones interested.

Heh I work in Whyalla. Whats the deal with this?

Yeh well i just read on NS.com(reliability is a issue there i know) BUT none the less, word on the street is that the guy that owns City Dismantlers has or is buying it from good old Robert Jane, and has plans on re doing the whole circuit which includes running the drag strip differently........ ie away from the sun, which is prob the best idea AIR have had in a Loooooooong time, I hope this rumour is true and they can finnally begin work on the joint, because it would also be good to see some cicuit work done there again as well as a fresh strip, oh and not too mention the facilities in general!

yeah Darren, as I understand it the dude from City Dismantlers and BJ are old enemies, and he has tried to buy AIR before. So, he got a consortium together and signed purchase docs to buy the place under a consortium name .... but then somehow BJ found out the CD dude was involved and has tried to pulll the pin on the sale. So, the place has been in limbo for a fair while, and will continue to be until the courts sort it out.

silly old men kick em to the curb hope the courts rule in favour of CD

man that track so badly needs an upgrade but if the whole track/facilities get upgraded ill have no problem shelling out the beans to go watch sum drags

Any one remember the days of Anzac when they had the car park located at the very end of it.

Car park would be packed full of hoon heads, as ppls would leave burnouts were thrown and scream off through the round about.

Eventually a group of police would walk and drive over shutting down the car park and defecting those within.

I have some fond memorys as a teen....

Anzac drag strip has been around since my old man was a teen. :)

From the info' I've heard August '06 was to be a 'big month' for the Bob Jane vs. Bill Russo court case - hopefully a positive result isn't too far away.

As an interesting aside, my Dad was invited to a dinner earlier this year in Tassie that involved a number of ex-racing drivers - and some current ones. Well blow me down if Dad didn't end up seated next to Jimmy Richards and... cranky old bastard Bob Jane himself! I told the old man he should have told Bob to hurry up and sell AIR so we can have the place renovated! Dad said Bob hasn't changed a bit - he's still a cranky stubborn son-of-a-bitch.

Taken from calaisturbo.com that was taken from ausrotory forums. Probably stated before bbbj  discovered it was bill making the purchase.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is what i was told today , from a daughter of a prominent TF bike

team owner & who also works for ANDRA

Track should have been sold today to Bill Russo, and has also purchased the land next to Speedway City. Not sure if SC is included.

AIR will be demolished, and a new track will be built, possibly facing the other direction - no more racing into the sun. Admin buildings will be at Speedway City end.

Apparently Tony Thornton,Bill & TF bike owner were discussing ideas over lunch earlier this week.

ONCE AGAIN - TIME WILL TELL

do a road trip to whyalla, 23 next month i think, three and half hour drive i mean there will be some preety fearce comp, nah just joking prob just a few hill billys, would be awsome to see a heap of skylines in the pits in stead of these v8s, if any one wants some info i will be happy to find out.

    • Was going to say the car pulls up nicely everywhere, especially going into that last long right hander before the main straight. Looks like a lot of fun.
    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
    • See if you can thermal epoxy a heatsink or two onto it?
    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump.  So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort.  Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
