I couldn't find any threads about this, sorry if this has been discussed before. If you could link me to it I would appreciate it. =]

Has anyone ever done this successfully?

I think I've read that you need a new bonnet, lights etc.

Can anyone shed some light on to how hard this would be?

I don't mind hacking away at it, because I imagine it's not just gonna fit nice and snug first time.

I would say that it is possible, I was gonna do it when I had my S1 but then I realised it was too much trouble so I got an S2 instead. As you said, you'd need a new bonnet, lights, side guards... I think that's it

if u dont want the hassles with EXPENSIVE series 2 healights, bonnet guards etc.... just get the series 2 bar and do something about your reo, theres a series 2 bar on ebay that needs some attention, should go cheap....

Yeah mate that's what I plan to do if I do decide to do it.

Get a S2 bar with lights etc cheap, get it resprayed and whack it on.

once u get the series 2 bar, there are the fog lights u gotta worry about, I've been quoted $100-300 per side which seems out of this world :)

An alernative is to get fog lights out of a series 2 sedan, they dont look as good but you can get them cheap

good luck with it

If you think that's bad.

For one set, my dad got quoted $695 from Nissan for the two lights (fog + blinker), and then $83 for the SURROUND EACH that covers over them.

would be interchangeable, but im not too sure if series 2 are any different, but possibly due to different headlights.

the guards are the same apparently. I was reading a thread somewhere here before & someone was saying the headlights for s1 & s2 are the same size where they meet the guards, just that the s2 are slimmer where they meet the centre grill.

In the post someone also posted a pic of a s1 with just the s2 frontbar. It wasn't a prefect fit but still looked good so it's definitely doable, as others have said probably need to weld the s2 reo onto your car.

It had the sedan indicator/fog light assembly. (I think I prefer the sedan assembly over the coupe mspec ones  )

had a mte do it - pain in the ass honestly worth searching for an s1 bar

S1 bar's are eww.

I have a 400R bar on mine at the moment, but I'm after a different look. I like the presence of the S2 bar.

Yo-Yo you don't still happen to have that thread bookmarked do you? Or remember the username of the guy who did it?

Thanks.

My car had a series 2 bar on it wheN i bought it (it's a series 1)

It looked terrible IMO but if that's what you're after....

as well as the bar, you will need the series 2 reo bar. The series 1 and 2 reo bars are NOT the same (as I found out when I changed back to a series 1 bar)

That's all you need really. All the bolt holes for the 2 bars line up in the same spots, but your headlights will protrude about 20-30mm past the top lip of the bar and the sides of the lights will sit in about the same amount.

    • CTIS (Central Tire Inflation System) has existed since the 80's. I'm looking into buying a Hummer H1 and they generally included it.
    • My idle is set at 950rpm though - Moving the timing around 20 degrees is not really what I'd call a calm idle. That said... neither is chop, by definition. The LS ECU likes to adjust timing to hold idle as opposed to air. It'd work, but generally speaking there'd be a discrepancy in the base idle and the IACV would want to move the timing around anyway to maintain said idle. I think I'm just going to keep the timing steady anyway. Preserve my engine mounts.  My aircon is now officially regassed. As the guy was reversing I noticed my reverse lights do not operate, along with my reverse cam. This is a bit distressing, because 100% of guides talk about which wire to connect to backup cams as "the goes with the [other color] wire". Often when doing conversions. Unfortunately the R34 colour wires aren't documented Unfortunately I had a T56 Magnum gearbox with it's reverse switch, which also isn't documented. Unfortunately there's definitely not documentation for people with both of these in the one car. Unfortunately I forgot. After many hours of this, I have a reverse cam and reverse lights again. The wire going through the trans tunnel to the reverse switch had broken. Upon inspection, it looks like this one wire had about 7 spade terminals and extensions in it.. for reasons I cannot possibly comprehend. I also spent the 750 hours required to clean up the wiring behind my head unit which now looks like this: This is a monumental improvement relative to what used to be there WRT triple gauges, head unit, traction control, wideband controller, and whatever the f**k OEM stuff still exists there in various states of connectivity/needed. Next step is to check in at the Exhaust shop to see/confirm how much clearance I have, to decide what mid mufflers or 'resonators' (which are just straight through, narrower mufflers) I can add and hopefully cut out a lot of exhaust leaks, pinhole, v-band or otherwise. But first step will be to 'take a look' before the next step.
    • Fark the AFM card and Nistune, Haltech Nexus S3, DBW, cruise control, flex fuel, dis dat.
    • It's most likely the bolt/bush where the cover bolts back wore and allowed cover to move forward.
    • Still haven't put the injectors and R35 AFM in so we can tune the bloody thing for the HG highflow it got mid last year! I think I can forecast the upgrade path to a bigger twin scroll, external gate, Haltech, flex setup, Samsonas, dis dat, etc will be .... a while away!
