Mmmm..I just owned a boxsters arse....

If you wanna see how good you are, race a bike and win. Now there's something to write about :)

I believe my current road kill with my car consists of with 3 ppl in the car against a Lambo Diablo with driver only (owned twice), a CBR 600 with modded exhaust and a couple other tweaks, more Porkas, M3s and AMGs than can be mentioned.

'Lines ROCK!!!!!!

Actually I have raced a bike. It was a Honda CBR 250R. He was in the overtaking lane and i was in the next lane... lights turned green and we both took off.. but then again, he might have shit his pants that my car was right next to him for his safely concern :)

I too have beaten a CBR 600 and a 900 sports/tourer type bike. Your car Dave should kick them big time. Not a surprise with your car on the Lambo front either. I want to have a go at a zx7r that my mate owns. Going on 1/4 mile times it will be close.

Now add in a few corners and now we can run right past the bikes.

Mick.

Most of the people who own expensive sports cars like diablos etc are loathe to cane the crap out of their cars too, therefore...they lose.

My car is slow...and I have owned hyundais and all sorts of crap...hey it was one with a body kit, seatbelt protectors and a sports steering wheel.

Russ

Race a bigger bike... even my 900cc bike finishes the quarter mile at around 130mph. GSXR-1000s and Hayabusas and the like will do it at over 140mph, and in under 10 seconds if launched hard, all for less than the price of a decent R33 GTS25t. And if you think that it's fairly close off the line (it is VERY hard to keep the front wheel down while launching, and many bikes are governed in first and sometimes second gears), try going from like 120km/h up. Bye :) It takes a VERY serious street car to come anywhere near a stock litre-class sportsbike. Corners are a different matter though - it takes a rider with humungous balls to catch even a reasonably quick car in the twisties.

Good work with the Boxster - it's always nice to flog someone who thinks they're so much better :D

What times have you run down the quarter on your 900? When all the serious bike Boys around here go out they have never got under 10 sec. I hear it from people that they can do it but as yet have not heard who has done it. The zx7r has exhaust and feul system mods and ran an 11.7. He weighs in at around 75kgs. To get this time he slips the clutch right through first and most of second gear. Will be interested to see what your fireblade runs. Don't think I am some sort of dick I know that it will kill my car but I am interested in real achieved times on the bikes.

Mick.

Twisties against a bike are no fun...Reefton spur numerous times held up bigtime by gsxr700's zx9r's except on the one straight where they gain about 6 km in 2 sec...bugger. But overall over the 26km or whatever it is I don't think most riders could be within a minute of what I could do.....

Think your so good with your 100kw in 100kg. (wish my car weighed 100kg)

Russ

Mick/Werdest - OK here's my best time, but don't laugh :) [email protected] (from memory). I am far from the best/lightest rider though (don't like to launch hard cos I'm a wuss and it kills the clutch) - a guy with bigger balls and a nearly identical bike to mine and who weighs about 40kg less :D ran 10.58@134mph. The potential is there but I can't get off the line. I dunno what track is close to you guys, but at Willowbank there's normally a fairly decent contingent of bikes at the Test n Tunes. You can see at the drags how many riders are slow off the line and only start really putting the power down 50-100m into the run.

A few weeks ago at Willowbank a GSXR-1000 ran a 9.99@141mph, and not long before that, a Hayabusa ran 9.78@146mph. The bikes can definitely do it, but not every rider out there can. On a side note, my brother's CBR250R (~19,000rpm :D) ran 14.7@92mph, and I've seen an RGV250F dip into the high 13s, so even the 250s have some poke about them. Most current 600s will run mid 11s (11.5) with the exception of R6s, which will run low 11s with a good rider, and very high tens with a fantastic/light one. Then there's the Y2K Superbike which runs 9.6@160mph :P but that's a different kettle of fish :)

Russ, I wish my bike weighed 100kg too :D As I said, it takes a rider with massive balls to get away from a car in the twisties. It's also far more physical, having to climb all over the bike to get the weight balance right, pinching the seat every time there's an imperfection in the road. Don't forget that the vast majority of people would be far quicker in their cars than their bikes when it comes to the twisties - you feel safer to push the limits because you're in a cage, and if you're on a bike and lose it, let's say you don't just spin out... It is always good to beat something that should/you think would be quicker though, congrats on the Reefton Spur thingo, sounds like fun :)

Don't forget that the vast majority of bikes you see on the street are bog stock (perhaps bar an exhaust and air cleaner or something). If you ever hear a big bike with a BOV, don't mess with it at anything over 100km/h :) There are guys getting 450hp out of 300kg (with rider) road reg'd Hayabusas...

RevHead,

Jeez don't laugh at 11.2. Man if I ever get the GTR to that time you will hear my woops of joy, vitcory etc from Toowoomba. The times on the GSX-R and the Hayabusa are real quick and the best I have heard too this point. Like I said no one I know of has actually cracked that 10 sec mark. 450 hp with 300kilos scary.

Mick.

best i seen was at calder with a 10.9

cant remember what bike it was... looked like a yamaha. (rd reg)

best non road reg bike i seen was 9.6 i think.

best ive seen internationaly for a rd reg bike was a 4 wheeler pull a 9 second lol well actually its a 4 wheeler so i dont know if its rd reg :D

How about this? Because I love you guys so much :D I'm hosting two video files.

Hayabusa 0-210km/h. It's a 14 sec video, some of which is slowing down and stopping, and some of it is... well, you get the idea :)

http://members-central.optushome.com.au/co...ech/Busa210.wmv

Kawasaki ZX636 (yes, 600cc). A quick squirt to about 230km/h from memory.

http://members-central.optushome.com.au/co...bmech/ZX636.mpg

I love watching these, how quick do those numbers climb? :D

If the owners of either video would prefer for me not to host these then please email me. I made an effort to find them elsewhere on the net and post links to them there instead but without luck.

Edit: Aah crap, no HTML...

    • Nice, thanks for sharing your progress....that's a pretty long list you are putting into it!
    • Decided to upgrade my pressurised plastic coolant expansion tank for a fancy pants alloy version The OEM versions can get brittle, even the new plastic one I got when I first got the car is a starting to show signs of "stress" I wasn't cheap, but it is basically unbreakable
    • Morning all, I have an RB25DET Neo that's in need of a rebuild. Will need new pistons etc due to detonation damage. Would anyone be able to recommend a shop in Southeast Queensland who I could bring my long motor to for a rebuild? Just want someone who knows RBs and whos built a bunch of them before. TLDR - recommended engine shops for RB rebuild.
    • Gday Thought it was about time I started a build thread! As expected this project has snowballed into a huge financial liability, but unless you’re strong willed and responsible, it’s not a surprise. Background -  My first turbo car was an R32 GTS-4, got my full license and then totalled my Au Falcon a week later, so while trying to sell my RMZ450 dirtbike to buy another car a bloke offered to swap the R32 which at the time I felt like I was ripped off but looking back and seeing prices of those now ($40kish) it was a good deal, I didn’t know enough about these cars to appreciate what I had so sold it before the RB20 blew up. Between here and there, out of 12 cars I’ve owned the note worthy ones are a V8 Lexus SC400 (soarer), a couple of XR6 Turbos and my beloved S15 which I had for about 3 years, picked it up for $12500, repairable write off but she was fine, gun metal grey/pewter and bone stock/unmolested until I got my hands on it. Ended up spending about the value of the car and 280kw, 2 demerit points by the time I got defected and sold it for $14500 (also $40kish in today’s market, rip) Fast forward to the present day, I’m in a much better position financially and daily an MQ Triton (great cars, pipe down Ranger Bois), I cruised marketplace and car sales for a few months looking for another R32, the best deal I could find was an absolute rust bucket half finished project for $12000, until this R33 popped up in Port Macquarie for $18k - unregistered and barely running but decent shape, kept an eye on it for a few weeks and the price steadily dropped, $16k then $15k then $14k, that was the point where I was like shit someone’s gonna snatch this up! It was owned by a young bloke who had big plans but him and his missus just had a baby so smartest move financially for them but big gain for me. So 2 days later I’m towing a car trailer to pick this thing up. Roughly 2 weeks and $3500 later I’m cruising around Newcastle in my beat up R33 all smiles and dose noises! It only needed some basic shit to get it going, coil packs and air flow meter, electrical stuff and all fluids changed, 158k kms and running pretty good, nice smooth engine after oil and coolant flush - when I say coolant I mean it had been filled up with tap water, every gallery and heater element was filled with rust, 8-9 flushes later and still had brown liquid coming out but she’ll be right. The car was painted R34 Bayside Blue at some point but whether it was a cheap job or just not looked after is anyone’s guess, clear coat flaking like sausage roll.  Was rethinking my choices and contemplating life, had it up for sale for $22k - still cheaper than any registered R33 but got little interest, next minute I had an opportunity at work - 6 months overseas for good money, so that was a no brainer, fast forward again and here we are with a 50% finished project. Current Mods - 200ish KW according to butt dyno Was tuned with Apexi PowerFC EBC (old school Greddy Profec)  Stock turbo (more shaft play than a Tinder date gone right) 3inch turbo back Varex muffler  Aftermarket injectors of mystery size, Power FC showed 36% duty cycle at full boost so not behd good size Someone had good intentions but stuck with the stock R33 MAF so we had misfires at 6000rpm due to the MAF hitting 5.2V So far I’ve redone the entire interior with carpet form Car Mats Direct, new Seats and steering wheel from Autotechnica, also sound system by Autobarn (mainly Kicker) Also MCA pro comfort coil overs - Hands down best purchase yet, worlds of improvement over the tired 30yrold shocks Goals - 450kw/600hp on flex tune New paint job - Midnight Purple 2 Engine is at the shop getting rebuilt with forged rods a pistons, new valves and springs, ATI Harmonic balancer, Aeroflow 7.5L sump, rear head drain and oil restrictors as per oil control thread* and cam covers modded for larger breathers, other stuff I can’t recall of the top of my head Parts purchased and to be installed once the engine is done -  Engine loom from Wiring Specialties including these options: Haltech Nexus S3 R35 Coil pack conversion  PRP Dual Trigger kit Fan controller  Other Parts -  262 Kelford Cams Turbo - Hypergear ATR43SS3-ProS with T51R mod (whistly boi) 6 boost manifold (high mount) 50mm Turbosmart Pro gate (plumbed back for legal reasons) HKS Super Turbo Exhaust with High Flow Cat Custom 3.5inch dump and front pipe 1500cc Bosch injectors  Fuel Pump walbro 525 Haltech MAP and IAT sensors Haltech Flex Sensor Fenix Radiator with dual thermo fans LS1 Alternator Kit Oil Filter Relocation from EFI solutions and Cooling pro oil cooler Many other things sitting in my garage waiting for that engine to come back. Progress pics to follow -
    • Losses have to be less with DC coupling. Provided the battery inverter has decent MPP tracking ability - which really shouldn't be a problem. It's not 2005 any more.
