So i visited Zebbie and Vader today.

Zebbie thinks that my car "lacks punch" 4.5k rpm onwards.

According to the powerfc, duty cycles aren't going past 70.9% (several hills and very very aggressive accelerations to test).

The car feels like its just plateauing.

Thommo (the guy i bought the car from) mentioned it was tuned by ICE down in Melbourne (who i'm told have a good rep), would the car benefit from a Z32 or similar (peak readings were roughly 6.8k rpm, 0.992 bar boost (capped at 0.8 apparently), 70.9% duty cycle) at this stage? I have the option to purchase one, and i'm getting the car once overed by the guys up here in Canberra.

Or do i really need to look at a better turbo?

SydneyKid was mentioning you get boost cut from the stock AFM around the 9 - 10 psi mark, which could explain the flatness around the 4.5k - 7k mark under full throttle maybe.

If its not going to be a substantial upgrade (10 - 15rwkw), i will wait till i do the turbo as well, but if its worth doing now, i'll get it done.

Also, on a sidenote - my injectors are upgraded ones it would seem?

Sounds like the car needs a retune. if you are in sydney take it to UAS in castle hill - they will sort it out and tell what and what you dont need straight out with no mucking around.

I think stock afm are good to around the 230rwkw mark...if you have a pfc the problem with the airflow cutout should be fixed as thats more to do with stock ecu than the afm. I wouldn't worry about afm if its stock turbo, as guilt said probaby just retune, go to z32 when u get a bigger turbo. Do you have an upgraded fuel pump yet? Cause stock r33 pump gets a bit suss around the 200rwkw mark.

i have a bosch 040 (or 044 not sure).

Don't get me wrong, its fast, very fast and very smooth too.

I have the option to buy a Z32 for a reasonable price, and am wondering if i should, i'm planning on having the car retuned shortly (curse this warmer weather) - might as well do it at the same time.

if you are around 200 to 220rwkw changing the to z32 wont add any power.

all that happens when you max the stock afm is that it wont increase on the load axis in more, which means it will horizontal run across (map sensor style). so it will still work, make power, go fast and so on. youll just have a few less load points.

a z32 gives you more resolution and more load points, it wont add a single killowatt.

i'm at 194rwkw with every mod bar the turbo and AFM.

So i may get a bit or i may not?

I currently have a blitz pod and Custom CAI, anything else i should possibly look at whilst i'm doing it

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
