I am after a car alarm with basic features for around the $400 mark fitted. can someone recommend a place to get a decent alarm fitted, Most of the places I call are monkeys that don't even know the features of the alarms they sell.

Give Nick a call (Belconnen area, does work for JB HiFi)

0403 270 951.

He did my stereo in my Dark Blue R33 last week, quality work and he knows his stuff when it comes to alarms.

I mentioned the topic to him, he suggested that for the Skylines, you'd want a Mongoose M80 something, roughly ~600 installed.

BDL in Belconnen did mine, good price, very good install, the alarm combo and the central they put in it has always worked great.

I don't know the name of the fellow that installed it, but he was an american

i personally would go to newcastle pro sound :D I got my alarm installed there sooooooo much cheaper than any quote in canberra but then again even if you don't feel like going to newcastle get a price in canberra then ring them and ask them if they can beat it particually on mongoose systems... i will almost gaurantee they will beat it...

bahahaa ;)

get the one that slaps beau in the head and makes him throw up.. :)
Ive herd nothing but good things from them a little pricy though

According to Chris Rogers, BDL is talking out their ass about Noise in the Electrics..

BDL is the shop i went to (in belconnen).

i've had M80's in both my skyline and stagea, and also done all my own stereo install in both cars, ripped everything out and reinstalled. never had an issue with noise. might be your speakers are earthing on the door internals if they're wider speakers, as i did have this problem for a day until i fixed it.

BDL is the place to go for install, belco guys did a good job for me at the right price. you have to pay for service, not just the unit. you can pay joe blogs down the road to install it for a case of beer, but what's stopping him getting a copy of your frequency, making his own remote and yoinking your car one night with not a sound?

Yep:yoinking. It's a technical term amongst car theives;mainly those who answer to "Snake" and have a gig appearing on family cartoons...LOL!

Me,I had my alarm with many features fitted by AudioTech in Scollay Street in Tuggeranong-no hassles, good price, and awesome backup service for any dumb questions I asked! I think it's personal as to who someone considers good, bad or otherwise. Shop around, stick with brand names you've heard of,and go from there...

    • Hello Liam - HA - somewhere in flies - possibly I have an update, but I have been so busy, projects have taken a back seat to getting business back on track.  I will let you know the outcome, but I think I am going to go for the 8HP,  CHEERS.  ELVIS
    • Thanks Joshuaho96, yes - as someone else also suggested, the 8HP seems the 'smart choice' - HA - and ZERO to do with cost, but I am sure 8 speeds will be better than 6 speeds - HA - maybe.  I will purchase a new 8HP,  Thanks.  ELVIS.
    • Nobody said anything about getting a "...cheap Falcon box..."- it was JUST a question about a specific transmission.  And YOU may have a problem with not enough $ - HA - I do NOT - so please keep your comments like you are some financial guru to yourself.  BUT - much appreciated re the cost of a new 8HP and I twill probably be the way I go.  Thanks.  ELVIS.
    • Most people I know in the BMW world are swapping 6HPs for 8HPs. The 6HP has a big issue with one of the clutch drum bushings wearing out shockingly early which leads to them going into limp mode going into 5th/6th gear as the oil pressure loss from the worn bushing causes clutch slip. Even with the adaptations in shifting the TCU can't bump line pressure enough to keep the clutches from slipping and burning. I've personally looked at a 335d with 6HP28 with one owner and ~90k miles on it and the transmission adaptations were way out of spec and even though it nominally drove ok I'm confident it would have needed a full rebuild sooner than later. Other than that they're fine, but the 8HP doesn't really have weird issues like this to my knowledge and they're in everything these days so pulling them out of crashed cars isn't too hard.
    • There is an ABS pump and a few solenoids. You could trigger the front/rear solenoids with a pressure bleeder attached with a Consult 2.
