Who has a Infiniti Q60, Q50 (V37)?

Recommended Posts

I don't see much talk if any about them on here.

I know they are really popular in the States so they have more people talking on forums there but i was hoping a few crew on SAU have one or are keen to get one.

Well if you come across this thread and have a V37 post a pic and say hi 😁

They look menacingly stunning but I'm not keen on their overly complex coolant plumbing for the turbos.

Just the unfortunate reality of making a turbo engine with truly modern power delivery. The W2A charge cooler adds a second coolant loop and makes things very messy in the vicinity of the intake manifold. A2A eliminates the extra plumbing and issues with coolant leaking into the engine but now you have a bunch of additional volume after the compressor that has to be pressurized to build boost.

You're right. It is an exercise in compromise. I much prefer the lesser complexity in going air-to-air and the amount of people who've reported on their coolant system spewing forth their contents after a hose failure is well-known.

It's the only reason why I would avoid buying one, despite how pornographic they are to my eye and have me lusting after one!

That is so cool.

How do get to watch that event?

They used to be on TV here in NZ last season.

I'm not sure what engine they ran but I think they used the Merc engine which could of been the 2LTR Turbo.

(Please correct me if I'm wrong.)

What's it like diving the hybrids? Does the EV work at the same time as the ICE or does it swap between each of them depending on your driving?

it is very much a performance focused hybrid, not economy focused, put the boot in and it will drive with both petrol and electric together, but won't run both together under normal driving.  When the engine is running while accelerating or cruising it has a heavy preference to use the petrol engine to drive the car and charge the battery, once there is enough charge in the battery while cruising at a constant speed it will switch to electric only and shut down the engine until either the battery charge level gets low, or you give it more throttle than it can cope with in electric only.  it shuts down the engine while decelerating and charges the battery via regenerative braking.

Will run on electric when it can while cruising up to about 105-110km/h, above that mine keeps the engine running all the time and only uses the electric motor if you put the boot in to overtake., I have heard the RWD will run on electric to cruise at higher speeds, probably due to less drive-train loss..

Otherwise it drives a lot like a conventional car, it is a normal 7sp auto, just has an electric motor and dry clutch where the torque converter normally is, transition to electric/petrol is very smooth, you often don't even notice if you aren't watching the tacho.

I haven't driven the VR powered Qs, but have heard the performance sits somewhere in between the 300hp sport and 400hp red sport.

That sounds like the JDM models, they have the infiniti logo on the front, but 'Skyline' across the back, the hybrid wears the 350GT badge too.

That said, I didn't think the JDM models were eligible for grey import??  unless they are AuDM models that people have retrofitted with the skyline badges.

    • Pretty simple question. I was about to put the transmission back in and thought I pretty much had it lined up when I noticed it seems like the pressure plate isn't flat. I was pretty careful when undoing the bolts both during initial disassembly for cleaning and when torquing them up for installation so this is pretty discouraging. I'm not sure if I accidentally bumped the pressure plate with the input shaft and bent it somehow or if it just showed up this way. Is it possible that there's just something obvious I'm not doing correctly? I'm pretty sure I was extremely careful to make sure the friction discs were seated correctly in the hub, everything lined up, flywheel torqued according to sequence, the little springs all sitting correctly in their seats, etc.  What's the play here? Do I jump straight to a new pressure plate?
    • OK. I can see that being the case. But if you live in the land of "only switching between 4.08, 4.11, 4.36" like most Skyliners, then you never encounter it. Now I perhaps understand why the crownwheel is thicker on some of the smaller numerical ratio diffs. The two stubs being the same (unequal) lengths and just swapped side to side between the different cases is a new one to me. I'm hating Nissan R200s more than ever now.
    • Reason I say this is I have seen broken ones, in drift, drag and even behind a stock Z. I do appreciate most of the time its the synchro's that go.   Trouble with quoting HP is it doesn't really say how strong the box is.  I've not seen many CD00X box's make it past a mid 9(150mph) I have seen about a stock R33 RB25 box's run a 9 too, they all go boom at some point though.   Another clue is they make gearsets for CD00X box's too, wouldn't be a market if they didn't break or have a limit people are going past.   I totally agree it is a strong box, just have to weigh up the true total cost of the conversion vs rebuilding with a good gearset.
    • What makes you say CD009 boxes are not as strong as you would think? I've always been told the last revision (CD00A) is good for 1000whp and I have no issue's believing it when comparing one side by side with an RB25 box. Makes them look tiny.
    • I picked up an open Center with shafts. I was told the Open shafts will fit a mechanical LSD and looking at them. I think they will work. Will update
