Hi all,

I currently compete in a racing series called Top Gear at Queensland Raceway in a WRX STi (please don't hold that against me :P ) We are about to start our own JDM class which will cover all late model makes from Subaru, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Honda, mazda etc and though a few of you might be interested. We are looking to attract those people with modified street cars that currently compete in supersprinting etc and are looking to take the next step and go circuit racing. The good thing about the Top Gear series is that modifications to your car are basically unrestricted and the only safety requirements are roll cage, harness and battery kill switch. Cost is usually $95 pre entry or $120 on the day and a licence will cost you $200 for the year. You'll get a qualifying session in the morning and four, 5-7 lap races during the one day. So if you think you might be interested our first outing for the new class will be September 17th at Queensland Raceway so come and have a look or contact me for any further info.

if you already do the top gear stuff will we will be in the normal sports cars class or will we automatically go into the new JDM class?

Michael,

I think I might have met you at the Gatton Sprints earlier this year and seen you around at the Saturday arvo sprints?

That's a good question really. The JDM class as I understand it is designed to cater for all JDM cars whether they are classed as sports cars or touring cars so I don't see why you couldn't race with us in JDM. If you want to join us email Brendon ( [email protected] ) and let him know so he can get you into our class.

Paul.

Yeh my old man does all the racing out at qr in our race r33. I just do the cams stuff...so it would have been my old man that you seen....i honestly wouldnt know if ive met you at qr before because there are so many damn rexs there, but it is possible. Ill have a chat with him about it, cause im sure he would love to get away from the stupid killa cars...i will let you know as its only a few weeks away.

We just done abit of work to the beast, i believe we may give you and the rest of the rexs a run for your money :D

Our car is the one in my avatar. Will let you know whether we change or not.

update* ok looks like were joining that class now. Ill email that bloke and get it happening. Looking forward to it.

Cheers mate

Im interested to know the restrictions, could i bring along a 450kw atw GTR monster? (not that i have one, im just wondering) and are you planning on coming to NSW with this aswel or just a QLD thing?

as far as i know with the normal top gear sunday racing there are no restrictions...just your usual safety stuff. You could have a 1000hp car...wouldnt matter. God knows a 450kw atw gtr would probably be slow...thats 600 at the wheels...normally 600-700 at the fly is max.

I am a newbie to organised racing so this may be a silly question...

Can anyone tell me where one could find more information about racing skylines in Australia.

Cams site will tell me what races are where, but not more indepth info such as contacts for the event or what cars are entered.

What class would skylines (GTST) come under?

I know people have race prepared skylines, where do they run them?

Any help is appreciated.... no really appreciated...

Not really up to speed with Skylines and specific classes but I know you can race here:

Improved Production 3J - http://www.ipransw.com.au/

AMRS - Super TT - http://www.amrs.net.au/

And Top Gear in QLD - http://www.queenslandraceway.com.au/

You can always do the lap dashes or sprints or as R31Nismoid said, do club organised days. Generally without a roll cage, kill switch and basic safety measures you wont be able to do much actual racing against other cars as such.

Generally roll cages need to comply with cams specs....that normally rules out alot of japanese bolt in cages as the material is wrong, and size is wrong also...need to be aware of that incase you rush out and get one and find its not upto the cams specs. It seems normally that a roll cage is what holds alot of people back because they cost a bit and you need modify the interior abit to have them there plus it normally nullifies the use of the rear seat if its a reg car.

75coupe there are 2 series of full racing in NSW that skylines are eligible to run in:

3e production cars (there are 4 gtrs prepped for this class not that we have all been on the track on the same weekend :O ) GTR won this last year

3j improved production (2 gtrs running in that, having a tougher time against the bridgeport rotaries)

If you are not looking at full on door to door racing (and the expense that comes with it), supersprints and hilclimbs are the place to be. There is one on this weekend at bulladelah if you want to have a look, thread in NSW events.

    • Hi GTSBoy, Excuse my ignorance but what does a "Bad" Knee point mean ?
    • HFM BM57 has a "bad" knee point, IIRC. It's not the same thing as the later R chassis MC.
    • The ATTESSA is functionally identical to R34; there were a bunch of JDM models that continued ATTESSA including Fuga/Q70, Skyline/Q50, Cima etc as an option. All with Auto only and I think mostly for snow regions. AFAIK there were no AWD VR30DDTT sold in Australia - it is on my to do list to check regs for racing a LHD car in Targa/ATR/AASA/CAMS events because if I can get the auto to work it would be interesting to run a 4wd car The Ecuteck TCM tuning is the same model as their ECU tuning, they already have it for R35 and Dose's favourite, BMW. You buy "points" to allow your computer to be tuned, buy either a bluetooth (phone app) or bluetooth+USB+Key (phone and PC) dongle, and pay for a tune that will be locked to your tuner ( ). You can also access the tuning software yourself but 1. it is mega expensive and 2. these computers have a billion parameters that intersect, so how could you ever spend enough time on it to get a decent result.
    • Or, is it a case of what it is like owning an R series Skyline? NFI what the previous owner has done or fiddled with... Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
