Hey guys I ran my car last Friday at Calder backed of at say 5000rpm in first gear coz it bogged and held back.

Initially, I assumed I had a vaccum leak from were i plumbed my blow off valve from. Cant be fuel supply coz I had a full tank.

However, after removing the tube and returning the blow off valve set up back to atmospheric It bogged a little again. It only happens when Im hard on the throttle every now and then. Some times its cool and sometimes it decides to bogg.

It made 211.8 rwKW on 14psi at C&D with a dump back exhaust (no cat), SAFC, APEX fmic, fuel pump. Car showed no signs of problems on the dyno. It made 193 rwKW on 8psi. Will post dyno graph shortly.

Need to know before Friday coz im running it again at Calder. Any info will be most appreciated.

PS plugs are gapped at 0.6mm, motul turbolight and use BP ultimate.

Any ideas what i should expect from 1/4 mile time and mph. (Using standard suspension and street tyres.)

.6 is far too much, should be no more than .8

If you need to go to .6, you probably have a coil issue, or plugs arent good condition

As for times, 105mph @ 13.5 is my stab for around the 190-200rwkw mark, bein you do have a stock turbo...

And i wouldnt be using 14psi. Its really pointless IMO.

Go back to 10-11psi, will save the turbo from dying aswell.

I ran 12.9 @ 109 in 225s with 215-220rwkw :ermm:

My mate has 235rwkw 12.4sec 1/4mile and runs the same plugs with 0.6mm gapping and has never had a problem. btw the plugs in my car are brand new. Just to remind you... there were no signs of problems in ignition or fuel supply on the dyno.

Any ideas on my suspension set-up?

Thanks in advance.

So what if he didnt have a problem?

Are we talking about your mate and his or your car here dude? :D:ermm:

Things might well have been fine on the dyno, but they (obviously) arent now are they? :sorcerer:

Plugs being new doesnt mean a lot when the gap indicates you have ignition issues if they are gapped down that far, hell... i was running 24psi, 269rwkw and race fuel and i didnt need them gapped that small.

No-one is going to have a magical answer for you, it could be lots of things, ignition is the place to start however.

As for your suspension, you have what you have is not going to affect times greatly when you have what is essentially a stock car

It will come down to driver/launch/tyres more than suspension at this stage of the game... plus tyres are cheaper, and expirience is free.

So again, my prediction above of 13.5 @ 015mph stands... if you cant drive, closer to 13.8

Reducing your plug gap to 0.6mm is only hiding your miss. You have a problem with it so you need to fix it. Reduce your gap will fix it, but your performance will suffer slightly. Your call.

I had the same problem and had to reduce the gap to 0.65mm , then i bought some spitifires and now run them at 0.85mm gap with alot more boost, no misses what so ever.

In summary, 212 rwkw and an SAFC with the standard turbo.

Night time, colder (denser) air compared to daytime, hotter air on the dyno.

My first guess would be that the standard ECU is getting into R&R mapping because of the increased airflow.

My suggestion would be to ake it back to your tuner and tell him what is happening. He may be able to sneak a bit more corection into the SAFC to allow for the night time running

OR

Wait unilt summer before you run it at night time drags.

:P cheers

  • 2 weeks later...

Yeah ran again the following friday.

14.2sec @ 100.9mph @ 8psi

13.8sec @ 104.9mph @ 10psi

13.9sec @ 105.5mph @ 12psi

13.7sec @ 104.8mph @ 11psi (this last run i plumbed my blow offf valve back whilst waiting in line)

My 60ft times were shocking they ranged from 2.3-2.6secs. My tyres let me down they were only 25/225's and hard compound. So in regards to my mph im guessing a low 13 with good traction.

I did hit R/R mode about three times but once I put my headlight back in place it ran fine.

One thing im worried about is that whilst burning up the tyres before my run i noticed that my rev limiter does not exist. My leg was still flat on the throttle and somehow i pushed the clutch in at the same time (dont ask why i was nervous!!!) so thereby placing it in neutral; my revs went all the way to 9000rpm.

Any idea to wether or not my engine has been rebuilt in japan? Or am i dreaming? Im guessing when the SAFC was installed by the previous owner in Japan they removed the limiter. But it must be for a reason!

Now, should I opt for a PFC first or a Turbo upgrade (thinking of something with response say GT2871R with 0.86 exhaust A/R) ?????

Thanks you to all in advance.

Bill

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
