Hey everyone.. Ive recently purchased a 1997 series 2 r33 GTS... And when i bought it i was in the understanding that it had stock suspension.. but after close inspection of the car it has NISMO motorsports suspsension on it.. Is this stock with all skylines? Or just the GTS's? And another thing.. I was sure that ALL skylines came out with HICAS.. But my nissan fast results tell me i have IRS? Any comments would be great thankyou..

nismo suspension isnt standard.

irs stands for independent rear suspension - what this means that each of the rear wheels is independently sprung, as opposed to a rear axled car.

hicas refers the the four wheel steer movement of the rear wheels, the simplest way to check if you have hicas is to turn your car keys into the acc position and check your dash for a hicas light.

you can even feel the rear end turn its wheels when you go around a round-about, it tends to feel slightly drifty. most people lock the hicas as it tends to make the rear end unpredictable for track use.

nice find if its come with nismo tuned suspension

if ur willing to jack the rear up u will see (if uve got hicas) a big solenoid thingo in front of the diff (ie blocking the diff from ur view) and coming from that are some arms with boots on the ends of them (black rubber things to stop dust and dirt getting in) that go towards the wheels.

if u see that then uve got hicas - it controls the rear toe arms to essentially turn the rear wheels in accordance with the speed ur going to make the turn 'easier'

Hey thanks guys..

Obviously nissan fast was wrong because i have hicas :P

Found it in the dash AND there was a fuse for the hicas in the fusebox...

Maybe the last owners put the nismo suspension on it? Im the first owner in the country so... the whole car is a foot off the air as well... Which made me think that it was stock

4X4 spec

Well it turns out i was wrong.

There is A. No hicas light. And B. nothing that remotely looked like hicas under my car :S

:)

I actually have no idea. Ill post some pictures of my diff and suspension and let you guys be the judge.

Just got back from looking over the car.. In my fuse box in the boot there is a fuse for hicas but im not sure if the box they made to cover the box is a standard for all skylines or just for GTS's... And i also found a weird box with heaps of wires comming out of it lol. Pics attached.

this is what a hicas lock bar looks like

in its place should be a big solenoid thingo

the rubber boots are connected to the toe arms that turn the rear wheels

(PS this is the first decent pic i found, i'll try and find more)

thought you said you had a hicas ecu and a light on the dash?

from the photos no hicas there... congratulations you just saved yourself $150.

I overlooked it... It said ABS lol dont ask me how i got HICAS from abs but i just did... The one thing that puzzles me is on my fusebox in the boot it says HICAS as the 2nd fuse from the bottom... Maybe its just the universal cover they make for all fusbox's on r33's. I suppose not having it is a good thing.. Most people dont like it? Also what did i save $150 for. lol sorry.

no idea how u mixed them up.

like i said in my pm to you, most skylines would probably just share parts between for all the various options in skylines.

well no most people don't like hicas, its ok for street use, makes turning a breeze, but for track work it makes the rear end unsteady and unpredictable... you saved $150 for a hicas lock bar (elminates hicas on hicas enabled skylines) - that silver thing in usherly's post.

    • I havent bought a manual cover for the dash yet and no cluster change, won't bother me too much, I just need to get that auto box gone, manual in! I miss my manual. 🤪. We started last weekend and managed to get the box out. Planning to start putting it in this weekend and then order a single piece tail. We were super careful to take time and not damage anything. It's my first time working under the car.  With my S15 mainly worked in the bay. This time, it was a headache because of three or four bolts only. They simply didnt want to leave thei homr and the one securing the tailshaft, another above the GB, and the one securing the lipstick was a shit. Mates mate, Davo caught fire 🤣, nearly opened his chest up with a grinder 🤦🏽‍♂️ and both mates nearly had a plate from the box land and slit their head open. Fun times. We all survived. Not the easiest working with limited access on jackstands. As I'm sure we can agree these are the memories which make us love our car. For all three of us, was an awesome weekend and Sunday 3.30am before tools down was a fantastic effort. I need to upload pics, but looks like it needs to be via Url now. We used to be able to just upload pics back in the day. It's been that long! 🤪 Im currently spraying rustoleum under body, not because it's rusted. It's super clean, but just so it's protected for the next 10 years. There was a few surface rust spots. Which pretty much wiped off with a 3M scourer.  Really impressed with how well the previous owner maintained it. Bank account went down so quick! Service, then GB - managed to get a spanking new 34 genuine box from Nissan. All the rest of the conversion parts from Kudos.  Went with a Nismo short shifter. New pedals and Exedy Clutch and FW. Ordered the Prp Rear Main Retainer kit which should arrive Friday and my first engine mod part just like I did with my S15 will be the Tomei Expreme Turbo Outlet. Already on order. It'll likely sleep next to me on a pillow during the coming months. 🥰 Last build was on my JET200GT profile and on SAU and Hardtuned I had documented the build. Planning to try to do that again. Brands feel scarce now. Wish we still had ARC and Apexi parts readily available. Exhaust - need some advice on this. I had an Apexi exhaust on the S15 and loved the tone. My mate had a HKS HP Silent on his 33 and suggested I go with that to avoid drone. I can't remember hearing an RB25DET running that so will likely need to wait for a meet or something to hear it.  Not after big power, just enjoy building it, and drivability with minimal negative attention.
    • Have a chat with Ben at Moore Performance or Jesse at JS Performance.
    • Thanks both. All good advice. Reminds me of drilling through stone wall for drainage pipe 😬 I'll let you know how I get on if I still have use of my hands afterwards 😅
    • Finally got shipping number for the intake and throttle body, shipped by UPS, so "should" be in my hands sometime next week, fingers fracking crossed
