ok.. well, this is more a case of wrong place, wrong time, but anyway.

coming back from work in north ryde, usaly go down via pymble and avoid epping road (too busy). but this time i went down epping road way, and unknown to me, i was in a T3 lane, and i was the only one in the car.

i just so happens that alot of cops where parked in a side road and one of them steped out and pulled me over.

i figure, yeh, just another RBT again, and he tells me ive goten pulled over for driving in a T3 lane with only me in the car.. i told him i never come this way home and usaly go via pymble, and i honestly did not know that it was T3 lane, but he ignored that and wrote me up for a $179 fine.

next was the car inspection, as per usal, looking for another reason to fry my ass and try and get me off the road.

he checks the car and so on, its all good from out side. pops the bonnet, and seems to be looking quite intently at the air box around the pod.. but he finaly says that it is ok as it is enclosed..

has a look at the FMIC for a little while and says its all ok, and tells me to close the bonnet. but just as i go to do that another older police man yells out, wait wait and comes walking over, quite grumpy and very angry at me for some reason. he looks at the front mount from the front, then looks at the pipes and says "failed". the way he said it seems like he was almost happy that he had got me for something.

the reason why he defected me was because the pipe for the front mount goes over the fan and then out the side of the wheel guard, there had to be a hole cut for the pipe. it did not even touch the chassie rail at all, so as far as i knew, it was ok, but he defected me for it, saying that it changes part of the crumple zone and is not manufatured. he also went on to say that even if i had a small gromet hole there that wasnt stock, it was a defect.

now i think that this is rather slack, as this has been done to just about every skyline which has a FMIC and ive had many cops look under the hood and be ok with that and not say that its a defect.

what do you guys think?

forgot to mention.. the reason why i am so peeved about this is that now i dont have the money to get my car regoed in a bit over a week (runs out then) . it will be a month till i can get rego :( and start to drive my car again

sorry to hear buddy. i usually never had a prob wid my fmic & piping in my 33 gtst before. but hey some cops are jus power trippers. in a cop car theres always 1 cop thats got a conscience and 1 cop that hasnt had sex all his life except maybe with his sister so dont worry bout it to much mate. if its jus a pink slip jus brush it off.. at least you didnt get EPA'd for it (i hope you didnt)

nar no epa.. got to get the defect cleared up, nazi cop said i had to take the FMIC off and weld up the whole.. then get a blue slip and so on..

blue slip is full car inspection aye? could they fail me for the exhaust pod (its enclosed) boost controler, and rims?

That sux man. I got pulled over last night. They were very interested in my semislicks and I had two of them questioning me about various things in the car. Just as one of them gestured to the bonnet and I could tell he was waiting for the other one to finish what he was saying I went on the offensive. I started lecturing them on tyres, how the different compounds and tread patterns worked, how cars with stock power can get sub 1:50 around Eastern Creek with great tyres and suspension mods. They ended up basically shooing me away while I was still talking at them out the window.

Nice one Bob :)

Ethan that sucks; they must be really really trying to get you if they defected you for a FMIC hole. Sorry to hear...

If you are having troubles with the Blue Slip; it's a piece of cake - shoot me a PM :D As Aarlon said; Blues are easy to get - cops just don't realize.

I dont know how you guys grab the attention of the cops. Touch wood, but I have never been pulled over for more than a RBT in 3 yrs of owning the car. Although I was once followed home, to which I thanked the cops for being so concerned with me getting home safely.

Either way, hard luck, get it cleared and do mods to your car the right way - either get an engineers cert. for the mods or do them to the rta guidelines, then when/if they pull you over have a copy of the cert. or guideline and tell them to stick it in their cakehole.

i like your style talk the police into bordom and then they let you go i love it .

To the guy who got jacked sorry mate it sucks we had heaps like this in adelaide and all you can do is take it we have even tried to get a enginer to go through and re write the defect book and only was successful with a handful of mods allowed. EG pod filter secure etc .' i think that was one'.

Anyway good luck let us know how you do :(

((andrew))

the defect means that they think there is something wrong, it doesnt mean that there actually is, thats why you have to go get it inspected etc. so if the mechanic who inspects it thinks it is ok it will get passed.

dont take what the cop said as fact, they are not engineers or mechanics, and you get a different story from every one u speak to which shows they dont even know the law regarding this issue properly.

go to a mechanic, have a chat to him and see what he says, you may be pleasantly surprised, if not, use the contacts which others have PMd you.

    • So left off with high hopes of having a gearbox in pretty quickly........ Got the adapter plate that week and had to chase a few threads and work out how/where everything goes as no instructions. Got the adapter fitted, test fitted gearbox and found had to cut and shave a few things. Tunnel required some hits with a decent hammer to give some clearance on passenger side but it fits with no problems,  could fit a 8hp70 with a little more work. For a cross member I wasn't going to spend $1100 on so shiny machined piece. Went through a few designs and remembered I had a gktech s chassis to cd00# cross member. Fitted that and found its close enough with a few extra bits welded so have gone that way and still a work in progress.  After this got into modifying the intercooler with some bends and clamps. I was procrastinating on this as was not keen to cut up and weld it myself but happy with the outcome.  Onto the radiator shroud and oil cooler mount. This thing took way longer than I thought it would but having to add an extra oil cooler for the trans and wanting everything within the chassis rails its good enough for now. It mounts to the chassis and gives plenty of room for lines and pipes. All the coolers are rubber mounted and sealed the shroud on the top and sides, will use some tape to seal the bottom gap of about 10mm. 20250508_111500.mp4   Next job was to build the new diff and after a delay with a friend got built this week. I ended up putting it all together with supervision and was good to learn how to set one up correctly. I ended up going a 3.69 ratio, nismo 1.5 way gt pro with gtr Axel's. Stripped it all down, gave all the parts a good clean, pressed on new bearings and set backlash. Was good working in a clean assembly room with all the gear. Once got home wire wheeled the case and hit it with some rollbar/chassis black paint. Got a few more bits done but will leave them for the next update.
    • That could be drilled, ground and welded. Would stop it progressing and leaking. But that block shouldn't be pushed very hard, as what you see there is a massive warning sign. But that fix also isn't going to happen properly with the engine in the car, and assembled. So you're looking at anew block if you're doing all that work anyway.
    • It's not as simple as it is being made out to be. It s not hard, but there are things that have to be done. Am busy right now, but will try to essay later.
    • Pinout is different to my knowledge, but you should confirm to be sure. Also you will need to adjust the VQ table in Nistune to suit. I would still recommend sticking with recirculating BOVs, I'm not sure if the R35 card MAF will fully resolve stalling caused by reversion/throttle lift.
    • What issues are those? Previous owner said it wants to stall sometimes. We did test drive and it was nice and smooth so it will be sporadic or idk. And if i just change MAF(the sensor to R35 version) it should be better? And as i asked...is it like "plug n play" with oem MAF from R34?  This is a MAF from R35 right?
