I could be wrong but standard with the R33 you have the normal tissue box size intercooler and the piping passes through the front guard so once going to a mechanic it should pass fine.

but I could be wrong about the plumbing for a stock R33 as I have a R31 with two HUGE holes for the 3 inch plumbing running through the guards

Even if they tick full inspection it will not be necessary as this is only for steering or major defects. Worse case scenario just put the stock cooler back on.....blue slip will only check off the listed defects, not look for more.

hope this makes u feel better :)

thats right.

you only need to go somewhere that does blue slips. all they need to do is say all of the defected items now comply, not check the whole car.

Can't see how there'd be a problem getting a blue slip for that, should be sweet mate as long as your mechanic isn't an asshole. I wouldn't be too worried, could have been worse. At least they didn't give you any EPA or Noise related hassles.

Worst case scenario just bolt up a standard cooler, if you don't have one handy I'm sure there's plentyof people on here willing to lend you one. But from what I can see, it's a bullshit defect anyway, and you shouldn't need to change anything for a mechanic to pass it. I very much doubt they'd see that as defective or unsafe.

i was with my mate in his VL turbo a few years back. we were driving down paramatta road at around 70kph (normally). an undercover cop decides to pull us over. he defects us for bold tyres (which were borderline passable) and a hole in the firewall. yes thats right - A HOLE IN THE FIREWALL. i almost laughed. anyways he would not let us drive the car and put a sticker on it so we had to tow it home. what a bastard!

Thanks for all the support guys!

a mate at work has a copy of a Light Vehicle Code of Practice for modifications, or somthing along those lines.

anyway. we looked into it, (while getting payed at work for this too ;)) and figured out that it must be because since the hole has been made in a crumple zone, it has weakend it, so makes it crumple much more easily than before. and its ilegal to weaken the crumple zones, but you can make them stronger with out any problems.

so if by same chance, i dont get passed for that reason, im going to get a metel plate with a hole in it, welded on that spot, to renforce the hole.

anyway, im heading down to see how i will go with the blue slip tomorrow.

oh and since i hace rego in like 1 week, if i had this blue slip, i wouldnt need a pink slip for rego then would i?

well the plaec i had details for isnt answering there phone, and the other 6 places ive called ether dont do Blue slips, or wont do it without an engneering cert for it all.

does anyone know of any places i can go?

sorry to hear all this Ethan ;)

I had 2 hwy guys gover over my car - an older bloke who relised I took my car to the track - was cool with everything, told me to drive safely home, then the young cop told me to open the bonnet, and looked at my airbox - made by unifilter. he said i was "game having that there as it could catch fire"

my reply..."what, my heatsheild/airbox going to catch fire? thats why its there mate.."

old cop - cool, young hot shot - power trip.

he evenasked if I had a bov - I said yep, showed him and said "factory, plumbed back as per factory."

he didnt like me...haha

yeh they are real pricks to skyline owners alot of the time aye.. dont get my wrong though, alot of cops that have pulled me over for RBT are not too bad.. but some are just out to defect you it seems like.. i just happened to get that one guy.

ok well got the defect cleared today.. payed $240 for a 30min job that i could have done my self. all he did, was take the intercooler pipe off, make up and cut to size a rubber boot, put it over the pipe, so it fitted between the hole and the pipe, and put it back together.

not happy jan..

although for the blue slip i had to get done, it was just a simple, are your tyres ok? do your lights work? is there any majoir damage on your car or parts that are broken. do your brakes work ok? and so on.. and it was all good in that regard.

so i guess in a way, it was cheaper then having to go get it engineered, which one place wanted me to do before they would pass it.

as for the fine, i have contacted our local MP (and close family friend) and explained everything that happend to him, and why i think it was unfair and reasons why i may have mad a mistake and should be just let off with a warning this time.. he said he will see what he can do to help me out.

but even if all goes well.. i still have to borrow money to be able to pay my rego. :D

ah well, such is life when the cops hate your car

nar thats cool vic, dont worry about it.

yeh now i just got to give the RTA a call and see if the blue slip i have is good enough so i dont have to get a pink one, and then get the defect cleared via the RTA and pay for rego, and then give Just Cars a call and update my insurance policy.......

hmmmm so busy, so many car things to do

just an update..

car rego'd today, and the blue slip that was used to pass the defect was good enough for rego because it was a full inspection, although they did have to over ride the system or sumthing :)

anyway who.. im broke! yay! .. stupid rego :P

Thats good to know mate...

I also have been told by a cop before to get a engineers certificate but the funny thing though is that he asked me to get one for my radiator.

Idiot asked me why do I have 2 radiators. ahhaha.

While I was trying to hold myself from laughing, I just told him that it was on it when I bought it. hehehe

So he just let me off.

    • Short answer: No. Medium answer: No, because you still need to conjure the things out of thin air to bolt them to a NA to make it a NA+T. Long Answer: No - The things you need to conjure - meaning a turbo, intercooling, manifolds, exhaust, intake/manifold/piping, clutch, injectors, fuel pump, AFM (?), ECU + Wiring (woo, N/A loom fun) have to come from somewhere. You could have many scavenged these things from an OEM car that someone had upgraded from and use some of these. This will be cost prohibitive now, especially so in the USA. You'd probably pay the same for newer, upgraded components that are better than old OEM stuff from 25-30 years ago. None of these big ticket items are re-usable for the N/A car. Why not buy new and upgrade while you're there? The only real consideration is turbo and fuel sizing and determining whether you want to stay within the bounds of the OEM engine or get into rebuild territory. These limits ARE lower with a N/A motor and especially N/A gearbox at the starting point. And if you're gonna upgrade those then you may as well consider having them built to begin with. Because everyone here knows you're never far from that next engine rebuild once you start making the power you want... The cars you see on the internet and SAU etc have been built over decades. If you're really clued in... you would sell your US car to somebody for what you paid for it. You would then scour AU JDM pages or SAU and buy a car like Dose's on this forum with your powerful American Dollar. This will save you so much money in the long term. Importing it could be tricky. Or it might not because USA. I have long said the only reason 90's Japanese stuff took off was because a) Japanese people had Japanese cars so that is what they used b) Australians could import these cars to Australia with very minimal changes and use them on the road here c) Neither country had well-priced access to US or EU Sports Cars. I don't believe the JDM scene would have taken off in Australia at all if we had EU priced EU BMW M offerings, or more especially the AUS V8 Scene would never have existed if we had the multitude of US cars like Camaros, Mustangs, Corvettes at the prices you folks do. After all - Do the math. I would say put a V8 in your R34 and that's the smart way forward. It is. I did it. I know this from my own experience. But at that point there's no reason to simply not buy a C5 or C6? It would be simpler and easier and cheaper and bette-
    • Reading all this... hurts lol. I have an ENR34 5MT and I paid an inflated USA price for the car alone, had to do tons of preventative maintenance past that, and so I'm over $30K USD into the car already and haven't even touched power.  I wanted to +t it. Not even trying to make GTR numbers, I'd be happy with 250hp.  Can I get away with paying much less to make that happen?
    • Damn you’ve done well, definitely snapping necks.
