A few things get me about this thread.

1. People suggesting that sliding corners is generally quicker than correct and quick lines. Maybe you guys should be formula 1 engineers. Rally cars might yes, but on bitumen they aren't as taily. Really tight hairpins seem to be the domain of handbreaks, but thats a neccessity.

2. You drive a lot harder on a closed circuit or road than one open to the public, I have experienced that many a time that is unless of course you are lacking that self preservation instinct that most people have or any common sense.

3. Why is everyone here a hero driver but without much to back it up. Most the good drivers I know (people who are sucessful at motorsport) are really quite modest about it.

I have also seen this phonomen of people that are quick supposedly on open roads and flat out suck in real competition. Same thing in townsville with the mt. stuart hillclimb, plenty of people talking it up (often skylines) then failing miserably when it came to the event. Ironically however the hill record is held by a skyline, be it a certain forum member in a black r32 gtr.

We are not suggesting sliding is quicker in all cases, we are saying some of the corners benefit from this. A prime example is the grand stand corner… Each to their own.

Maybe I lack the common sense you speak of, but I for one did not care what happened up on this road, as well as others. I go a damn lot easier with some one else is in the car, but when I'm on my own, what do I have to lose.

I enjoy trying to beat my own times I guess.

spirited driving is great, and with the narrowing of the types of events that arent just burnout comps , show cars etc there isnt alot of events to attend, especially up this end of the coast, that is why i think another event in noosa would be a great thing for car enthusiasts alike who dont want to travel to brisbane/willowbank for driving events all the time.

I'd be all for another event on the hill....chances are about 0.1/10000000 though. They struggle to allow the Historic Crapper Hill Climb to take place and its hard enough to get in to that to race...so theres no chance of them letting skylines go "hoon" up their precious road. Not to mention all the other problems involved with opening the road for private use, eg. public liability insurance etc. It honestly just wouldnt happen.

yeah it would cost a bit i guess, but id still like to see how the council would react to a car enthusist group wanting to use there road, they have so kindly blocked off to the public.

Someone organise it well enough and it would most likely happen! Although noosa seems to be a snobby area at best (from my one visit).

Just dont be so sure though, lots of quick old things like 240z's around e.g. john siddins etc. A well built skyline might do well e.g. that black one i mentioned previously, but dont underestimate some of the old rigs, especially with a new bit of technology under the bonnet.

This thread is GOLD! I have been reading these forums for some time now but this single thread takes the biscuit! No matter what STREET car forums you visit (especially the one-make forums), there's always those who talk it up, especially those who "had the fastest/most powerful/best handling" car but sold it. It's a bit like the adage, "the older I get, the faster I was".

Anyway, the opportunity exists for all those who want to put their money where their mouth is and prove themselves and there'll be more info on this in the near future. Nonetheless, I expect to see none of the defesive and outspoken people ever front one of these events... they rearely if ever do.

There have been other events on Gyndier Road and there are others plannned for next year that will also use it. I'm surprised that Nismo_Boy, who claims to have his finger on the pulse, doesn't know about these other events.

BTW: Events are easy to organise... if you have some credibility to start with! Public liability is painful but what do you think CAMS is for? Yes, they are the governing body of *most* four-wheeled motorsport in Australia but they are also a huge insurance broker for the aforementioned motorsport. I have directed events in south east Queensland over the past six years that have used both public and private roads and have never struck a problem with the insurance side of things. A properly organised and CAMS sanctioned event carries $100,000,000 in public liability cover and the owners of venues or the local authorities are generally very happy once they view the documents pertaining to the safety plan and insurance. The only hurdle then is the local residents and, frankly, I would not like a closed-road event tearing past my driveway, thanks all the same. Those who get to compete in the various closed-road special stage events around the country should be very greatful to the residents who put up with these events tearing past their doors.

Of course the cost is passed directly on to the competitor by way of the ever-increasing entry fees but that's the price you pay for a safe and legal environment, instead of tearing up a public road, endangerring not your own life but the lives of others. If I were a Gyndier Road resident, I'd be throwing bricks through windscreens of idiots tearing up the hill outside the legitimate events.

85URK... you are right, there is a distinct lack of proper events but I'll wager there are many more than you are even aware of. What about the Coastal Challenge that has been run every year since 2000 (and has used the Gyndier Road hillclimb)? How about the Queensland Challenge that has been running effectively since 2001? These events are the sort of events where any road-legal car, with minimum safety equipment, can enter. The problem is it's all word of mouth and if you are not a member of a proper sporting car club, you'll never hear about them. Are you aware of other car clubs in your area who are actively organising events? I sure am!

And guys, for pity sake!!!... sideways is NEVER the fastest way around a corner that you can actually get traction on! Comments like that expose your complete lack of understanding of vehicle dynamics. There are NO corners on Gyndier Drive that can be made faster by "sliding around" as, and I really hope you can stay with me on this one, as soon as power transmitting tyres break traction, you slow down. The FASTEST way around a corner is to drive to the point of breaking traction but not over-stepping that point. Of course you get no style points for that but you are faster.

Finally, to dismiss Mr hrd-hr30's comments about track comparisons is to prove a total lack of understanding of motor racing but who am I to argue with the wisdom of a couple of street racers?

PS: Turbo Tim, Mt Stuart looks AWESOME! I would love to get up there one day! :)

Not a terrible lot of new technology under Jon's bonnet... just a well prepared car with some good power, good handling and loads of driver skill!!! Jon wiped the floor of the Queensland Challenge a couple of years ago, knocking off seriously prepared Evos and STi's!!!

There are no driveways off the track nor houses beside it throughout the section they compete on. There is one house at the very bottom of the road and three i think at the top. All of these are probably 500m from the section they race on.

Having sold mine shouldnt make them any less believable? As mentioned, pick up an old issue of #33 ZOOM, and there is the S13. You’re more then welcome to get in contact with the current owner in South Australia, if you would like his details. A simple search of my name on this forum should bring up the build up photos.

As with the R32 James (Nigno) now owns that car, again how am I hiding these cars? They are still around for anyone to see. James said he is more then happy to run his R32, however Gydndier is closed to the public, and I have no idea if he has any intentions in doing competition events out side drifting.

Sure, the opportunities do exist for people to front up. But as said, in what? I own a car not suitable, and have no real desire to get something else sort term. Plus, continuing my career at the point is far more important to me.

The only thing I have heard about new events up said road is, there has been talk. Talk about what events I don’t know, when I don’t know either. I have nothing to do with Noosa Beach Classic Car Club anymore, and most defiantly not the HRCC. I personal think this shire is ridiculous, so again why would I have my pulse on these?

This without a doubt makes you sound worse then all of "us" the "teen racers". Throwing bricks? Dead set nice work.

These residents thought they owned the road and took it upon them selves to continuingly use it as their own personal walking track. Don't get me started on these same residents STINGING UP WIRE between trees for "us" motor bikers.. Ah, hello.

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
