i gotta agree ... holden heads know only about the capacity of the engine and think capacity = power ... umm i don't think so ... they know nothing of tuning, electronics, suspension whereas everyone i've met and i mean everyone with a skyline, supra, 180 etc has pretty good knowledge about whats good and why? .. why?? because our cars are technically more advanced!!! i can't find an argument against this!!!

except for maybe the fact the quite a large majority of holden drivers are uneducated bogans!!!

I like to wind the window down and say " Mate that is one sweet sounding 253 you have there".

I could be called a holden driver since my volvo wagon is powered by a holden V8 and trans. I can't wait to chop a skyline in it! :) (it will chop quite a few I know of in my area)

Nah of course not, until last year I used to drive one! :P But you definitely notice a lot more bogans in Commodores showing a lot of insecurity to people driving turbo Jap imports. From the first night I picked up the Skyline I noticed the idiot bogan in a Commodore ratio increase about tenfold.

I think deep down most of them realise that their car is inferior, so they try to make up for this by trying to "prove" they are better drivers by doing stupid shit, like going 2x the speed limit past you, cutting you off, etc. The moron I talked about prevsiouly in the V6 VP is the best example I can think of, happening to me.

People in Later model Dunnydore's like the VT, VX and VY's are generally okay.

If you get the people in the beastily VN, then you start to hit bogan-ville, they put a V8 in a VN they think they own the road.

i have quite a few mates that drive commodores.

and this guys got a v6, and its hll fast for a v6, has just a chim zaust and cam. was quite suprised when i gave it a bit next to him, but i still was ahead.

the holden bogan thing is quite bad. i dislike bogans.

lol and the v8s (exec) arnt much faster then the v6 ones.

i had a look at alot of time slips.

but i still enjoy seeing/hearing the nice loud v8 note coming out of a commy. theres nothing that can replace the v8 sound.

but what i really hate is these ricy wankers in their little shitboxes (some turbo6's and v8s) with their fart making noise cars, and the shitty v8s with long tailpipe noise when the back off, blam blam blam bang blam kinda noise.

i enjoy burnouts, and i dont see many imports doing them.

and

i hate imature shitheads that say my car is rice.

RICE = non performance stuff eg stickers for parts you dont have, wings that are so big that u can take off, neons ect.

i had a nice long winded post typed up how your all a bunch of useless morons who dont seem to know shit. But i figured i'll tell you how i really feel.

I DRIVE an LS-1 powered vehicle. If i lose to a skyline or any other car for that matter, i will give them a thumbs up. I see more ****stains in cheap imports who think they have a hope in hell against a BPU ls-1 doing ricer flybys and having cries than i do old commodore drivers etc.

WOW a stock SS cant hold its own with an BPU gts-t through twisties? what point of thank you very much captian obvious should i point that 1 out too. As for your list of bits he would cry over.. Add onto that 200kilo's less weight.. maybe more. "2 less cylinders" yes well done.. now add onto that the turbo.

Yes there are the fair share of commodore driving idiots, but i know for a fact BPU skyline(non gt-r) vs BPU ls-1.. the ls-1 will have a good chance of winning. Matty.. yes we know skylines won bathurst, and that was 10 years ago. Oh and the GT-R won that 1 not your gts-t.. bit like saying "the phase 3 falcon 0wned bathurst" when 1 drives an XF 6 cyl shitter.

I am yet to see a BPU r33 gts-t run anything to impressive on a regular basis. As for mr smarty pants comments on upsetting a guy cause his ss ute uses oil... 2% of gen3's world wide are having these issues.

You may asume they're all slow, but trust me, day you line up a BPU ls-1 manual will be a nice eye opener mate. :P

now let the flamming beging bitches.

As for teh gt-r nevah losing.. EVL R33 got a taste of gen3 power a while back :D

what happened to him?? and we did generalise that its not all holden drivers ... just some of the ones that really stand out ... you know bogans ... bogans are usually easily spotted .... like listening to jimmy barns in full volume hahahaa ... not that theres anything wrong with that ...

how come u didn't get another rx7 after ur accident?? that would be a skyline killer :P ...

meh, dickheads drive whatever they can afford, theyre not limited to holdens or skylines etc. ive had bad experiences with both once in the old mans rex against an r33 and another time in a mates hsv when we got abused by a tit in a vn who didnt like losing(who then proceeded to follow us). the vast majority out there are of the friendly variety. each to there own

OMG I wonder if some of you guys know how up yourselves you sound... no offense, but read back some of these posts and substitute 'skyline' for 'Commodore' and I'm sure you'd think they were a bunch of pompous, stuck up so-and-so's. Although I'm sure not all of it was intended to be read this way, it's easy to do so, so just be a little more careful.

DCIEVE et al - couldn't agree more.

we don't want the :whackit: to be come enlightened and start "enhancing" the image of skyline owners

Hehehe i agree!:P

but definetaly not all holden drivers r wankerz coz if you said that then most of australia would b wankerz! id say mostly the younger ones who think they own the road and end up giving other young drivers a bad image are the wankers! I live across the road from a big park with a big car park and as you can guess there r dickheads running amuck every nite and 99.99% are holdens or fords with an age of approx 17-25 doing burnouts, ripping up grass and running into things which is extremely annoying!

I understand summoner.

Over here stockish R33's seem to run a little on the slow side. Then again there are also many a slug LS-1's, just check out the wednesday night drags. Your ute is unusually quick amongst the LS-1 bretheren most of whom are floating around mid 14's or worse, including modified ones.

I ran a 13.4 and a bunch of 13.5's with a pretty stock gtst, but it is as unusual as the 13.4 your ute did. Not fast all the same.

Should organise a joint LS-1 and skyline gtst night and see how the average times work out. I reckon it would be close (and pretty slow average).

    • I came here to note that is a zener diode too base on the info there. Based on that, I'd also be suspicious that replacing it, and it's likely to do the same. A lot of use cases will see it used as either voltage protection, or to create a cheap but relatively stable fixed voltage supply. That would mean it has seen more voltage than it should, and has gone into voltage melt down. If there is something else in the circuit dumping out higher than it should voltages, that needs to be found too. It's quite likely they're trying to use the Zener to limit the voltage that is hitting through to the transistor beside it, so what ever goes to the zener is likely a signal, and they're using the transistor in that circuit to amplify it. Especially as it seems they've also got a capacitor across the zener. Looks like there is meant to be something "noisy" to that zener, and what ever it was, had a melt down. Looking at that picture, it also looks like there's some solder joints that really need redoing, and it might be worth having the whole board properly inspected.  Unfortunately, without being able to stick a multimeter on it, and start tracing it all out, I'm pretty much at a loss now to help. I don't even believe I have a climate control board from an R33 around here to pull apart and see if any of the circuit appears similar to give some ideas.
    • Nah - but you won't find anything on dismantling the seats in any such thing anyway.
    • Could be. Could also be that they sit around broken more. To be fair, you almost never see one driving around. I see more R chassis GTRs than the Renault ones.
    • Yeah. Nah. This is why I said My bold for my double emphasis. We're not talking about cars tuned to the edge of det here. We're talking about normal cars. Flame propagation speed and the amount of energy required to ignite the fuel are not significant factors when running at 1500-4000 rpm, and medium to light loads, like nearly every car on the road (except twin cab utes which are driven at 6k and 100% load all the time). There is no shortage of ignition energy available in any petrol engine. If there was, we'd all be in deep shit. The calorific value, on a volume basis, is significantly different, between 98 and 91, and that turns up immediately in consumption numbers. You can see the signal easily if you control for the other variables well enough, and/or collect enough stats. As to not seeing any benefit - we had a couple of EF and EL Falcons in the company fleet back in the late 90s and early 2000s. The EEC IV ECU in those things was particularly good at adding in timing as soon as knock headroom improved, which typically came from putting in some 95 or 98. The responsiveness and power improved noticeably, and the fuel consumption dropped considerably, just from going to 95. Less delta from there to 98 - almost not noticeable, compared to the big differences seen between 91 and 95. Way back in the day, when supermarkets first started selling fuel from their own stations, I did thousands of km in FNQ in a small Toyota. I can't remember if it was a Starlet or an early Yaris. Anyway - the supermarket servos were bringing in cheap fuel from Indonesia, and the other servos were still using locally refined gear. The fuel consumption was typically at least 5%, often as much as 8% worse on the Indo shit, presumably because they had a lot more oxygenated component in the brew, and were probably barely meeting the octane spec. Around the same time or maybe a bit later (like 25 years ago), I could tell the difference between Shell 98 and BP 98, and typically preferred to only use Shell then because the Skyline ran so much better on it. Years later I found the realtionship between them had swapped, as a consequence of yet more refinery closures. So I've only used BP 98 since. Although, I must say that I could not fault the odd tank of United 98 that I've run. It's probably the same stuff. It is also very important to remember that these findings are often dependent on region. With most of the refineries in Oz now dead, there's less variability in local stuff, and he majority of our fuels are not even refined here any more anyway. It probably depends more on which SE Asian refinery is currently cheapest to operate.
    • You don't have an R34 service manual for the body do you? Have found plenty for the engine and drivetrain but nothing else
